Prayers.

THE Grand Committee for Religion sat, to take into Consideration the Ordinance for Church-Government.

Mr. Speaker resumed the Chair.

Sir Anthony Irby carried to the Lords, for their Concurrence, the Ordinance for conferring the Place of the Clerk of the Peace for the Counties of Norfolk, &c. upon Mr. Gilbert Gerard: The Ordinance for giving Licence to the Sheriff of Gloucestershire to reside out of his County: The Ordinance for estating certain Lands upon Major-General Langberne.

Mr. Whittacre reports, from the Grand Committee, the Additions and Alterations to the Ordinance concerning Church-Government, referred unto them: The which were twice read; and, upon the Question, assented unto; and ordered, upon the Question, to be ingrossed.

Sir Anthony Irby brings Answer from the Lords, That the Lords agree to the Ordinance for Leave of the Sheriff of the County of Gloucester to live out of the County: And, as to the Ordinance for granting the Estate of Mr. Barloe to Major-General Langherne; and the Ordinance for appointing Mr. Gerard Clerk of the Assize for Norfolk Circuit; they will send Answer by Messengers of their own.

Sir Robert Pye went to the Lords, to put them in mind of the Ordinance for Two thousand Pounds, out of the Excise, for Abbingdon; and to desire them to expedite the Passing thereof.

Ordered, That it be referred to the Committee of both Kingdoms, to consider, What Numbers of Horse and Foot may be forthwith drawn together into a Body in the Field, for the best Security and Safety of these Parts of the Kingdom: And that Sir Henry Vane and Sir Philip Stapilton do take care hereof: And that what shall be done herein, be reported to the House To-morrow Morning.

Resolved, &c. That Major-General Browne shall have the Command of such Forces, Horse and Foot, as shall be now drawn together into the Field, for the Security of these Parts of the Kingdom: And that he do forthwith go down, and take the Command of the said Forces, accordingly.

Sir Robert Pye brings Answer, That the Lords have passed the Ordinance for Two thousand Pounds, out of the Excise, for Abingdon.

Resolved, &c. That Twenty thousand Pounds be charged upon the Receipts of the Excise, to be paid in Course, with Consideration of Interest, after the Rate of Eight per Centum for a Year; the Interest to be paid to the Advancers every Six Months: The which Twenty thousand Pounds is to be employed for the Service of the Forces that are to be gathered into a Body under the Command of Major-General Browne.-

Ordered, That Sir Peter Wentworth do go to the Lords, to desire them to hasten the Passing of the Ordinance for Sale of Delinquents Estates.

And immediately he went with this Message to the Lords accordingly.-

Mr. Whitlock, Alderman Atkin, Alderman Soame, Mr. Love, Colonel Browne, Mr. Fienis, Mr. Allen, Mr. Recorder, Mr. Purefoy, Mr. Beddingfield, Colonel Marten, Mr. Evelyn, Mr. White, Mr. Strode, Mr. Edw. Ashe, Mr. Gourdon, Mr. Holland, Mr. Hill, Mr. Sallwey junior, Colonel Thomson, Alderman Pennington, Mr. Leman, and the Members of this House that are Knights or Burgesses for the Counties of Oxon, Bucks, Berks, and Hants: And are to meet this Afternoon at Two of Clock, in the Exchequer-Chamber: And are to consider of all Ways and Means, How to raise a considerable Sum of Monies, speedily to be employed for the Maintenance of the Forces to be drawn forth under the Command of Major-General Browne; and likewise of the Wants and Necessities of the Inland Garisons of those Parts: And are to present their Opinions, What is fit to be done thereupon, to the House, To-morrow Morning: And Mr. Whitelock and Mr. Love are to take care hereof.

Ordered, That the Business concerning Major-General Massy be taken into Consideration To-morrow Morning, the first Business: And that Mr. Speaker do put the House in mind hereof.

A Letter from the Committee at Cardiff, of 12 Februarii 1645, relating the late Action at Cardiffe, and the Defeat given the Enemy; another Letter from the said Committee, of 20 Februarii 1645, from Cardiff; and another Letter, of 25 Februarii 1645, from Cardiff, from the said Committee there; were all this Day read.

Ordered, That it be referred to the Committee of both Kingdoms, to give speedy Order to Major-General Langberne, Sir Trevor Williams, and the Governor of Gloucester, to be assistant to the Forces of the Parliament in South-Wales; and that they do take care for the speedy Settlement of those Counties of South-Wales: And Mr. Herbert, Mr. Oldsworth, and Mr. Salwey junior, are to go to the Committee of both Kingdoms, concerning this Business, this Afternoon.

Ordered, That Mr. Moore Pye, the Messenger that brought the Letters from the Committee at Cardiff, shall have Twenty Pounds for his Pains: And that the Committee of Lords and Commons for Advance of Monies, at Haberdashers-Hall, do pay the same accordingly.

Resolved, &c. That Sir John Awbrey be forthwith apprehended, as a Delinquent, by the Serjeant at Armsattending on this House.

Resolved, &c. That Mr. Miles Button and Mr. Edward Herbert shall be added to the Committee for Gloucester, Herefford, Glamorgan, Brecon, Monmouth, and Radnor.
