Sheriff of Suffolk.
RESOLVED, upon the Question, by the Parliament, That Winniff Esquire be, and is
hereby constituted and appointed to be Sheriff of the
County of Suffolk, in the Place of Sir Robert Cooke, who
is dead; and that the Lords Commissioners for the Great
Seal of England be authorized and required to issue a
Commission under the Great Seal of England, to him, to
be Sheriff of the said County of Suffolk, accordingly.
Committees.
Colonel Clarke reports from the Committee appointed
to consider of the right Ordering and Disposing of the
Business of the House by Committees, The Votes of that
Committee; That several Committees be appointed; and
the Names of Persons, Members of the House, to be of
the several Committees: Which the House took into

Irish Affairs.
Resolved, That there be a Committee for the Affairs of

This Committee are to consider of such Petitions as are
directed to the Parliament; and to present such of them
only to the Parliament, as are proper to the Legislative
Power, or not relievable elsewhere; with Power to send
for Persons, Papers, Witnesses, and Records: And this
Committee have Power upon such Petitions as concern
private Persons, and shall be judged by them fit to be
presented to the House, as is before directed, to examine
Witnesses upon Oath, if they see Cause; and state the
Matter of Fact; and report it to the Parliament.
And, in such Cases as the Petitions shall not be made
good before them, they are to state the Case to the
House; with their Opinion touching Costs, to be given
in such Case, to the Persons unjustly molested.
This Committee are to meet in the Painted Chamber
on Monday next, at Two of the Clock in the Afternoon.

a Committee be appointed for the Business of Trade and
Corporations; and for receiving Propositions for the
Advantage of the Commonwealth; viz. Mr. Samuell

Writs of Error.
Mr. St. Nicholas reports, An Act for Reviving and
Continuing one Act of Parliament, intituled, An Act for
Redress of Delays, and Mischiefs, arising by Writs of
Error in several Cases: Which was this Day read the First
and Second time; and a Clause tendered to the Bill in
these Words: "And be it further Enacted and Ordained,
That all and every Supersedeas granted and awarded before the 20th Day of July 1653, upon any such Writ or
Writs of Error now depending, shall, within Thirty Days
after the Beginning of the Term, commonly called
Michaelmas Term, which shall be in the Year of our
Lord 1653, be discontinued and void; and every Person
and Persons shall have their Liberty to proceed upon
his or their Judgment and Judgments, and take forth
Execution; any Writ or Writs of Error, or Supersedeas
notwithstanding."
Ordered, That it be referred to the Committee for the
Law, to prepare an Act for Redress of Delays, and
Mischiefs, arising on Writs of Error, Writs of false
Judgment, and Arrests of Judgment; and report it
to the House: And Mr. St. Nicholas is added to that
Committee for this Purpose.
Advancement of Learning.
Resolved, That a Committee be appointed for Advancement of Learning.
Ordered, That the Committee that brought in this
Report for Committees, do name a Committee for this
Purpose; and to present it to the House.
Duresme Assizes.
Resolved, That it be referred to the Committee of
the Law, to bring-in an Act for holding the Assizes at
Duresme.
