Thursday, the 11th of August, 1653.

A Person discharged from custody.

ORDERED, That John Sparkes, one of the Six Persons who presented the Petition on the Behalf of Lieutenant-Colonel John Lilborne, and was by the House committed to the Custody of the Serjeant at Arms attending the House, be discharged of his Imprisonment, in regard of his present Sickness.

Reports.

Resolved, That To-morrow Morning be appointed to receive Reports.

Registering Marriages.

The House resumed the Debate upon the Bill touching Marriages, and the Registering thereof; and touching Births and Burials.

The Question being put, That there be an Addition of Salary to the Register;

It passed in the Negative.

The Question being put, That there be an Alteration in the Bill for the Choice of the Register;

It passed in the Negative.

Resolved, That these Words be added in the Seventh Line of the Third Folio, next after the Word "Division;" viz. "or County Register, under his Hand in the said Register Book."

The Question being propounded, That every such Parish Register shall keep a Duplicate of the said Book in Vellum, and return the said Duplicate yearly to the General Sessions of the Peace for the said County, which shall be held next after the 25th Day of March, to be kept as a Record by the Clerk of the Peace;

And the Question being put, That that Question be now put;

It passed in the Negative.

Resolved, That these Words, viz. "And the said Justice of the Peace shall, if it be desired, give unto the Parties, so married, a Certificate in Parchment, under his Hand and Seal, of such Marriage, and of the Day of the Solemnization thereof; and Two or more of the Witnesses then present," be inserted in the One-and-twentieth Line, after the Word "taken."

Resolved, That these Words, viz. "and that the Justice's Clerk for this Certificate, may receive Twelve-pence, and no more," be inserted in the Bill, next after the Word "present," in the last Vote.

Resolved, That these Words, viz. "And in case such Certificate shall be produced to the Clerk of the Peace for that County, and Request made to him to make an Entry thereof, then the said Clerk of the Peace is hereby required to enter the same in a Book of Parchment, to be provided for that Purpose, and kept amongst the Records of the said Session, and to restore the said Certificate; for which Entry the Clerk of the Peace may receive Four-pence, and no more."

Resolved, That these Words, viz. "If he shall so long live," in the Fifteenth Line of the Third Folio, be omitted.

Resolved, That these Words, "the Parish," in the Sixteenth Line, be omitted; and, in the Room thereof these Words to be inserted, "such Justice of the Peace, or the said Parish, with Consent of such Justice."

Resolved, That the Words "Four Pence" shall stand for Births and Burials."

Resolved, That this Debate be adjourned till Tomorrow Morning.
