Thursday, 6th October, 1653.

Criminal Prisoners.

RESOLVED, That there be a general Inquiry of all Persons that are in Prisons for criminal Causes; and the several Causes of the Commitment of such Persons respectively.

The Question being propounded, That this Business be referred to a Committee of this House;

And the Question being put, That that Question be now put;

The House was divided.

The Noes went forth.

Colonel Barton, Tellers for the Noes: 35.
Colonel Mathewes, With the Noes,
Colonel Blount, Tellers for the Yeas: 41.
Mr. Spence, With the Yeas,

So it passed in the Affirmative.

The main Question being put; it was,

Resolved, That this Business be referred to a Committee of this House.

Resolved, That it be referred to the Committee for Prisoners.

Resolved, That this Committee have Power to send into the several Counties for the Copies of the Records and Mittimus, upon which any of the Persons aforesaid are now imprisoned, together with the Copies of the Informations and Examinations touching them; and thereupon to state the Matter of Fact to the House.

Lord Mayor Elect.

Resolved, That Saturday next be appointed for Alderman Thomas Viner, Lord Mayor Elect for the City of London for the Year ensuing, to be presented to the Parliament for their Approbation.

Captain, &c. of Elizabeth Frigate.

A Letter from on board the Elizabeth Frigate in the Downes, 4th of October 1653, from Chr. Mynge, was this Day read.

Resolved, That it be referred to the Council of State, to take Notice of the Service of the Captain of this Ship; and to give what Encouragement they shall think fit; and to take into Consideration the Widow and Children of the Master, who was slain, as they shall think fit.
