Prayers.

Letter from Protector.

MR. Speaker acquaints the House, That he hath received a Letter from his Highness the Lord Protector, dated this present Day: Which was now read.

Resolved, That the Parliament doth leave the Ordering and Managing of the Design mentioned in this Letter, to his Highness the Lord Protector; with the Advice of his Council.

Abuses in Printing.

Mr. Recorder of London, Colonel Whettham, Colonel Mackworth, Sir Wm. Strickland, Commissary General Whaley, Lord Broghill, Mr. Yorke, Colonel Bridges, Colonel Fines, Mr. Brisco, Mr. Telwall, Mr. Thomas, Mr. Stephens, Lord President of the Council, Lord Commissioner Whitlock, Mr. Attorney-General, Mr. Whalley, Sir Charles Wolseley, Mr. Smith, Colonel Twisleton, Mr. Hooper, Colonel Barkstead, Lieutenant of the Tower, Colonel Rous, Mr. Serjeant Glin, Captain Fawconberge, Sir Rich. Lucy, Colonel Wastell, Sir Jo. Witterong, Mr. Secretary Thurlow, Mr. Fryer;

This Committee are to consider of the Abuses in Printing; and to consider of, and present to the House, what they shall think fit for Redress thereof: And this Committee have Power to send for Persons, Papers, Witnesses, Records: And also to put a Stop, in the mean time, upon Printing of Diurnals, and News Books, as, or so far as, they shall think fit: And they are to meet at Two of the Clock this Afternoon, in the Court of Wards.

Settling the Government.

The House, according to former Order, was resolved into a Committee of the whole House, upon the Government.

Mr. Speaker left the Chair.
Mr. Hoskins was called to the Chair.
Mr. Speaker resumed the Chair.

Mr. Hoskins reports the Desire of the Committee, That the House would give the Committee of the whole House Leave to sit again To-morrow, upon the Government.

Resolved, That the House be resolved, To-morrow Morning, into a Committee of the whole House, to proceed upon the Government, according to former Order.
