Monday, the 23d of October, 1654.

Prayers.

Settling the Government.

THE House this Day, according to former Order, was resolved into a Committee of the whole House, upon the Government.

Mr. Speaker left the Chair.
Mr. Hoskins was called to the Chair.
Mr. Speaker resumed the Chair.

Mr. Hoskins reports, The Desire of the said Committee, That the House would give Leave, that the Committee may sit again To-morrow Morning.

Resolved, That the House be resolved into a Committee of the whole House To-morrow Morning, upon the Government, according to former Order.

Scandalous Ministers.

Mr. Ash reporteth from the Committee to whom the Ordinance for ejecting of scandalous, ignorant, and insufficient Ministers and Schoolmasters, is referred, The Opinion of that Committee, That the House would be pleased to pass an Order for suspending the Execution of that Ordinance: they being in Preparation of a new Act.

Salters-Hall Judges.

Ordered, That this Report, and the Report touching Salters-Hall, be taken into Consideration on Wednesday Morning next.

Ry Writ.

Ordered, That a Warrant do issue forth, under Mr. Speaker's Hand, directed to the Clerk of the Commonwealth, to issue forth a new Writ for the Electing of another Burgess, to serve for the Borough of Ry, in the Room and Stead of Colonel Morley, who waved his Election there; and chose to serve as a Knight for the County of Sussex.

Lewis Writ.

Ordered, That a Warrant do issue forth, under Mr. Speaker's Hand, directed to the Clerk of the Commonwealth, to issue forth a new Writ for the Electing of another Burgess, to serve in this present Parliament, for the Town of Lewis in the County of Sussex, in the Room and Stead of Mr. * Shelley deceased.

Sussex Writ.

Ordered, That a Warrant do issue forth, under Mr. Speaker's Hand, directed to the Clerk of the Commonwealth, to issue forth a new Writ for the Electing of another Knight to serve in this present Parliament, for the County of Sussex, in the Room and Stead of Sir Thomas Pelham, deceased.
