Thursday, the 21st of July, 1659. In the Afternoon

Great Seal.

WHEREAS John Bradshawe, one of the Commissioners for Custody of the Great Seal, is appointed to attend this House To-morrow Morning, to take his Oath as one of the Commissioners for Custody of the said Great Seal: It is

Ordered, * Tho. Tyrryll, one of the Commissioners of the Great Seal, do then attend this House with the Great Seal.

Insolvent Debtors.

Resolved, That the Quorum for the Committee touching Prisoners, be any Five of them.

Resolved, That the Quorum of the Committee for Seamen, be any Three of them.

Militia.

The House resumed the Debate upon the Bill for settling the Militia throughout England and Walles.

Ordered, That Colonel Wm. Farlowe, Tho. Seaborne Esquire, James Siddall Gentleman, Hugh Jenkins, and Thomas Delahay, be added Commissioners for the Militia in the County of Hereford.

Ordered, That a Committee be appointed to view the Names of the Commissioners in this Act; and strike out the Names of such of them as they shall think fit, according to the Debate and Sense of the House, as it is now declared: Viz. Sir Arthur Hesilrig, Colonel Rich, Major Salwey, Mr. Robinson, Colonel Martyn, Colonel Morley, Lord St. John, Colonel Downes, Mr. Lister, Sir Henry Mildmay; or any Three of them: To meet To-morrow Morning, at Seven a Clock, in the Speaker's Chamber.

Resolved, That Colonel Phillip Twisleton, Mathias Browne of Horblin, Phillip Eyton of Great Hayle, John Gardner of Sleeford, Wm. Yorke of Burton, Wm. Browne of Hickington, be added Commissioners for the Militia in the County of Lyncolne.

Resolved, That Colonel Wm. Sydenham be added a Commissioner for the Militia in the County of Middlesex.

The Question being put, That James Price, Evan Davies, Richard King, and Howell Jones, be added Commissioners for the County of Radnor;

It passed with the Negative.

Resolved, That Wm. Lord Viscount Munson, Adam Baynes, Robert Pargiter, Anthony Shugborough, Thomas Bletsoe, Robert Andrewes, Thomas Elmes of Warmington, Brian Johnson, Robert Maunsell, Arthur Hesilrig, George Clarke, George Needham, Esquires, Twyford Worthington, Gentleman, and Francis Harvey Esquire, be added to the Commissioners of the Militia for the County of Northampton.

Resolved, That Carew Ralegh be added a Commissioner for the Militia in the County of Northampton.

Resolved, That Edward Cludd be added a Commissioner for the Militia for the County of Nottingham.

Resolved, That Colonel Phillip Twisleton, be added a Commissioner for the Militia for the County of Nottingham.

Ordered, That Dr. John Palmer be added a Commissioner for the Militia in the County of Oxford.

Resolved, That Captain Wm. Sheild be added a Commissioner for the Militia in the County of Rutland.

Resolved, That Thomas Saunders and Major Nathaniel Barton be added Commissioners for the Militia in the County of Stafford.

Another List of the Names of Commissioners for the Militia in the County of Somersett was read; and, upon the Question, agreed unto.

Resolved, That John Lisle Esquire, Sir John Dingley, John Richards Esquire, Robert Ditlington, Wm. Bowerman Esquire, Richard Lucy Esquire, George Searle Gentleman, Captain Newman, Captain Legg of Stenbury, be added Commissioners for the Isle of Wight.

Resolved, That Mr. Day, Mr. Turner, and Mr. Duncombe, and Mr. Brooke, be added Commissioners for the Militia in the County of Suffolk.

Resolved, That Sir John Lenthall Knight, and Major Richard Lawrence, be added Commissioners for the Militia in the County of Surrey.

Resolved, That Mr. John Bine be added a Commissioner for the Militia in the County of Sussex.

Resolved, That Major Swift be added a Commissioner for the Militia for the Six Counties in North-Wales.

An enacting Clause was tendered to this Act; "That if any Person or Persons charged by this Act, shall not have sufficient Goods or Chattels, whereby he or they may be distrained for to perform the Order of the Commissioners; that then his or their Tenant or Tenants shall be, and are hereby required, upon the like Penalty, to perform the said Order: And, for so doing, he or they shall and may defalk out of the Rent or Rents of his or their Landlord or Landlords, what shall be imposed; and shall be saved harmless and indemnified by this Act for so doing: Which was read the First and Second time.

Resolved, That this Debate be adjourned until Tomorrow Morning.
