Monday, December 26th, 1659.
Army.
ORDERED, That Colonel Alexander Popham, Colonel
Thompson, Mr. Thomas Scot, Colonel John Okey, Sir
Anthony Ashley Cooper, Colonel Mathew Allured, and
Colonel Henry Markham, or any Three of them, be and
are hereby authorized and impowered to order, direct, and
conduct the Forces of the Army, and all other Forces,
and to command the same, for the Safety of the Parliament
and this Commonwealth; and to suppress all Tumults,
Insurrections, and Rebellions, and all such Forces, which
shall oppose or resist the Commands of the Parliament;
and to observe such Orders and Directions, as they shall
receive from time to time, from the Parliament, or the
Commissioners appointed by Authority of Parliament:
And that this Power continue until the said Commissioners,
appointed by Act of Parliament to command the Army,
or any Three of them, shall come to London or Westminster: or until the Parliament shall take further Order.
Ordered, That one Month's Pay be forthwith provided
for Payment of the private Soldiery, both Horse and Foot.
Ordered, That the Committee for inspecting the Treasuries be and are hereby impowered and authorized to
issue out the said Month's Pay out of any the Treasuries
of this Commonwealth.
Ordered, That the Committee for Inspection of the
Treasury be and are hereby impowered to appoint Persons
to muster the Soldiers for the present.
Issue from Customs.
Ordered, That the Commissioners of the Customs do
forthwith pay the Sum of One thousand Pounds unto Sir
Anthony Ashley Cooper, Mr. Weaver, Mr. Scot, and Mr.
Josiah Barners, upon Accompt, for the Service of the
Commonwealth.
The Tower.
Ordered, That the Care of the Government of the
Tower be committed unto Sir Anthony Ashley Cooper, Mr.
Weaver, Mr. Scot, and Mr. Josiah Barners, until the
Parliament take further Order: And that they, or any
Two of them, be and are hereby impowered and authorized to give Order therein accordingly.
Committee of Inspections.
Ordered, That Colonel Fagg be added to the Committee of Inspections.
Ordered, That the Committee of Inspections do sit
To-morrow Morning at Seven of the Clock.
