London Militia.

ORDERED, &c. That, upon Tuesday next, the first Business, the House do take into Consideration the Ordinance, sent from the Lords, concerning the Militia of the City of London.

Irish Affairs.

Sir John Clotworthy gives an Account to the House, of the Proceedings of those Gentlemen that were employed from the Committee for the Affairs of Ireland, to the General, and the Army under his Command, upon some Votes and Resolutions of this House, touching the Forces of Horse and Foot, that are voted to go upon the Service in Ireland.

The Persons appointed by the Committee for that Employment were, the Lord Wharton, Sir Wm. Waller, Sir John Clotworthy, Mr. Richard Sallway: The Lord Wharton, being in some Indisposition, went not.

He reported, first, a Letter from the General, from Walden, of 22 Martii, 1646, directed to the Committee for the Affairs of Ireland, at Darbey House: The which was read.

He then reported the Result of the Convention of Officers, before his Excellency Sir Thomas Fairefaxe, at Saffron Walden, 21 Martii, 1646: Wherein was contained the Names of the Officers present; the Question proposed to the Officers, and some Queries of theirs, in order to their future certain Resolutions.

He then reports, That, at this Time, the Vote of this House, for raising of Sixty thousand Pounds per mensem, for the Service of the Forces of England and Ireland, was not communicated unto them; the which was by them communicated: And then

He reported another Letter of the General's from Walden, of the same Date, directed likewise to the Committee for the Affairs of Ireland, at Darby House; and another Result of a Second Convention of Officers, convened at the Desire of Sir Wm. Waller, and the rest of the Commissioners, his Excellency being present, at Saffron Walden, Martii, 22 1646; wherein was likewise contained, the Names of the Officers present; a Question proposed to the Officers, upon the Communication of the Resolutions of the House of Commons, touching the Raising of Sixty thousand Pounds per mensem, towards the Pay of the Forces in England and Ireland.

He further reported, That, after the Results of these two Conventions had been communicated unto them, the Occasions of one of their Number not permitting him to stay longer, Sir Wm. Waller and himself had some further Conference with some Officers of the Army; being desirous to improve all Means for advantaging the Service of Ireland.

He then reported a Paper, subscribed with the Hands of divers Officers of the Army, expressing their Willingness and Readiness to answer the Expectation of the Parliament, in their Votes for sending a Part of this Army of Horse and Foot into Ireland; and their further Desires and Resolutions concerning this Business: The which was read; and was of the 22th of March, 1646.

Petitioning by the Army.

Sir John Clotworthy and Sir Wm. Waller further acquainted the House with some Informations they had received, concerning a Petition that was then carrying on, by some Officers of the Army, and of divers other Circumstances and Proceedings concerning that Petition.

Resolved, &c. That, upon this Report, and the Informations given, Thanks be given to the Members employed.

And accordingly, Mr. Speaker did give Thanks to Sir Wm. Waller, Sir John Clotworthy, and Mr. Sallway, respectively, upon the Report, and upon the Informations.

Resolved, &c. That, notwithstanding any Informations this Day given to the House, they have a good Opinion of the Army.

That this Paper, containing the Copy of a Petition to the General, and the Representations annexed, and the Informations, and the whole Matter given to this House concerning the same, be referred to a Committee; viz. unto Mr. Baynton, Sir Henry Vane, Mr. Holles, Sir Walter Erle, Sir Arthur Heselrige, Sir Dudley North, Mr. Myles Corbett, Mr. Lisle, Mr. Nath. Pelham, Mr. Hodges, Mr. Harrington, Mr. Ball, Mr. Bond, Mr. Sallway: And are to meet upon it on Monday next, at Two of the Clock in the Afternoon, in the Star Chamber: And have Power to send for Parties, Witnesses, Papers, and Records.

Resolved, &c. That a Letter be written to Sir Thomas Fairefaxe, General, to acquaint him, That this House hath been informed, that a Petition is carrying on in the Army: That he would take some Course, by the best Means he can, to make Stop of it: And that a Copy of the Petition, delivered in to this House this Day, be sent to the General.

Irish Affairs.

The Paper of 22 Martii, 1646, containing an Engagement of divers Officers, whose Names are subscribed, to improve their best Interests with their Officers and Soldiers, under their respective Commands, to go and engage in the Service of Ireland, &c. was again read.

Resolved, &c. That this House doth accept of this Engagement of those Officers; and doth give them Thanks for it: And do declare, That, as the rest that have engaged for Ireland, have Two Months Arrears paid, and a Month's Advance, when they are on Shipboard, so shall they: And it is referred to the Committee for the Affairs of Ireland at Derby House, to treat with these Officers, upon the Carrying on and Perfecting of this Service; and to treat and confer likewise with any other Officers of the Army, or any others; and to declare the same Conditions to them likewise; and to report all to the House.

Resolved, &c. That Colonel Jephson be added to the Committee for the Affairs of Ireland, at Derby House.

Guernesay and Jersey.

A Letter from Colonel Robert Russell, from Guernesay, of 20 Martii, 1646, was this Day read: And

It is Ordered, That it be referred to the Consideration of the Committee for the Admiralty and Cinque Ports: And they are required, according to former Orders, to take care that Shipping may be sent for the Defence and Safety of that Island.

Ordered, That the Report from the Members of both Houses, that are of the Committee of both Kingdoms, to whom the Business concerning Guernesay, and the Reducing of Jersey, was referred, be made on * * * *.
