Prayers.

Sheriff of Cardigan.

Mr. Whittacre reports the State of the Case concerning Thomas Lloyd Esquire, nominated to be Sheriff of the County of Cardigan.-

Persons to attend.

Ordered, That Colonel Sydney and Colonel Jephson be forthwith sent for to attend the House immediately, by Warrant, under Mr. Speaker's Hand, in the like Manner as Mr. Speaker was wont to issue his Warrant for others in like Cases.-

Sheriff of Cardigan.

Resolved, &c. That this House doth nominate and appoint Thomas Lloyd Esquire Sheriff of the County of Cardigan: And that the Commissioners of the Great Seal do pass a Patent under the Great Seal, unto him to be Sheriff, accordingly.

The Lords Concurrence to be desired herein.

Browne's Arrears.

An Ordinance for paying Five thousand Pounds, out of the Excise, in Course, unto Major General Richard Browne, in Part of his Arrears, as Major General, and Governor of Abingdon, was read; and, upon the Question, passed.

An Ordinance for paying the Sum of Four thousand and Sixteen Pounds to Major General Richard Browne, out of the Moiety of the Receipts at Goldsmiths Hall, in Part of Satisfaction of all Demands in Arrears, as Major General, and Governor of Abingdon, was read; and, upon the Question, passed.

Harvey's Arrears.

An Ordinance for paying unto Colonel Edmond Harvey the Sum of Fourteen hundred Forty-eight Pounds, in full Satisfaction of all Arrears due unto him, as Major General, and Colonel of Horse, was this Day read; and, upon the Question, passed.

Message to Lords.

Mr. Edward Ashe carried these Ordinances to the Lords, for their Concurrence: And likewise an Ordinance for payment of Three hundred and Fifty Pounds to Major Robert Jackson, in Satisfaction of his Arrears; one Moiety thereof by the Committee of Lords and Commons for Advance of Monies at Haberdashers Hall; the other Moiety thereof out of the Moiety of the Receipts at Goldsmiths Hall not engaged in Course: An Order for Fifty Pounds, out of the Receipts at Haberdashers Hall, to William Asson.

Sheriff of Duresme.

An Ordinance for appointing Clement Fulthropp Esquire to be High Sheriff of the County Palatine of Duresme and Sadberge, and for regulating some other things concerning the said Office, and Supply of Justice in that County, was this Day read the First and Second time; and, upon the Question, passed; and ordered to be sent unto the Lords for their Concurrence.

Sir Henry Vane is appointed to carry it to the Lords.

Message from Lords.

A Message from the Lords, by Dr. Aylett and Mr. Hakewill;

The Lords have commanded us to bring unto you this Approbation of the Declaration of the Fourth of August: In which they desire the Concurrence of this House.

The Question was propounded, That this Business be taken into Consideration on Thursday next.

And the Question being put, Whether this Question shall be now put;

The House was divided.

A Second Message from the Lords, by Dr. Aylett and Mr. Hakewill;

The Lords have commanded us to bring unto you this Ordinance for the School of Manchester; which they have passed; and desire the Concurrence of this House therein: To put this House in mind of Dr. Gibbon, as in this Paper is expressed; viz. "The Lords have again taken into Consideration the Tender of Dr. Gibbon, as it was attested by the Divines of the Assembly, which was presented unto the Lords, and from thence communicated to the House of Commons a long time since, and their Concurrence oftentimes desired: The Lords do therefore again desire the House of Commons would take into Consideration speedily; and, having concurred with this House for the Doctor's Restoring, to refer the said Tender unto the Committee of both Houses for Matters of Religion; that so seasonable a Work may no longer be retarded, and that he may be the better prepared when the Houses shall call for him." The Lords do agree to the Addition of those Eight Gentlemen of the House of Commons to the Committee of the Admiralty and Cinque Ports, together with the Addition of these Four Lords, the Earl of Nottingham, Lord Lawarre, Lord Wharton, and Lord Mountague; in which they desire the Concurrence of this House:- To put this House in mind of the Ordinance, formerly sent down, for the Naturalization of the Lady Zouch, alias Mrs. Proud: A Vote for Sackcile Wade Esquire to be Sheriff of the Counties of Cambridge and Huntingdon; in which they desire the Concurrence of this House:-To put the House in mind of an Ordinance, formerly sent from the Lords, for preferring Mr. Pringle to a Benesice.

Message from Lords.

A Message from the Lords, by Dr. Bennett and Mr. Hakewill;

The Lords have commanded us to return unto you the Declaration concerning the Scotts Commissioners Papers; which they agree unto, with some small Alterations; in which they desire the Concurrence of this House: And, if they shall concur therein, that it may be printed, and referred to the Committee at Derby House, to be sent to our Commissioners in Scotland, that they may make use of it to the same Ends and Purposes as they were directed to do with the other Declaration.

The Lords desire to put this House in mind of the Ordinance concerning Westminster College Rents.

Manchester School.

An Ordinance for the School of Manchester; now sent from the Lords, was read; and, upon the Question, passed.

Admiralty.

Resolved, &c. That this House doth concur with the Lords in the Addition of the Earl of Nottingham, Lord La Warre, Lord Wharton, and Lord Mountague; to the Committee of Lords and Commons for the Admiralty and Cinque Ports.

Proude's Nat.

Ordered, That the Ordinance for Naturalization of Mrs. Katheryn Proude be read on Wednesday Morning next.

Dr. Gibbons.

Ordered, That the Petition and other Papers of Dr. Gibbons, formerly sent from the Lords, be read and considered of on Wednesday Morning next.

Sheriff of Huntingdon, &c.

The Vote for appointing Sackvile Wade Sheriff of the Counties of Huntingdon and Cambridge, in the Place of Francis Bickley, was read; and nothing done upon it.

Declaration concerning the Scotts Commissioners Papers.

The Lords Alterations to the Declaration concerning the Scotts Commissioners late Papers were read; and, upon the Question, assented unto.

Resolved, &c. That this House doth concur with the Lords, That this Declaration be forthwith printed, and referred to the Committee at Derby House, to be sent to our Commissioners in Scotland, that they may make use of it to the same Ends and Purposes as they were directed to do with the other Declaration.

Ordered, That it be referred to the Committee at Derby House, to take Course, that this Declaration, and the former Declaration touching the Scotts Commissioners Papers, be translated into Latin and French.

Ordered, That a competent Number of Copies of this Declaration be forthwith printed, for the Service of the House: And the Knights, Citizens, Burgesses, and Barons of the Cinque Ports, are required to send printed Copies of them to be published in the respective Places for which they serve.

Answers to Lords.

Answer returned to the First Message; That this House has considered their Lordships Message; and will send Answer by Messengers of their own.

Answer returned to the Second Message; That this House has considered their Lordships Message: And, to the Ordinance for the School of Manchester, and to the Lords to be added to the Committee for the Admiralty and Cinque Ports, they do agree: To the rest, they will send Answer by Messengers of their own.

Answer returned by Doctor Bennet and Mr. Hakewill; That this House has considered their Lordships Message; and do agree to the Lords Amendments to the Declaration concerning the Scotts Commissioners Papers; and that it be printed; and to the Order, that it be referred to the Committee at Derby House, to send this Declaration to the Commissioners of both Houses in Scotland: To that concerning the College of Westminster, they will send Answer by Messengers of their own.

The House interpose in a Quarrel.

The House being informed, that there was a Matter of Difference between Colonel Sydney and Colonel Jephson;

Resolved, &c. That Colonel Sydney and Colonel Jephson be enjoined by Mr. Speaker, in the Name, and under the Command, of the House, to engage their Words and Honours not to proceed any further upon this or any other Difference.

Mr. Speaker did accordingly enjoin them.

And Colonel Jephson and Colonel Sydney did promise to obey this Injunction of this House therein.

Preventing Duels.

Mr. Prideaux, Mr. Scott, Mr. Marten, Colonel Bossevile, Mr. Weaver, and Mr. Reynolds, or any Two of them, are appointed to prepare and bring in an Ordinance, with all Speed, for the Preventing of Duels.

Customs.

The House being informed, that Mr. William Toomes, Surveyor General of the Customs, was at the Door;

He was called in; and did present his humble Reply to the Answer made by the Commissioners of the Customs to the State of the Accompt of the Receipts and Disbursements, formerly presented by the said Mr. Toomes to this House.

The which Reply was read.

Mr. Prideaux, Sir Henry Mildmay, Mr. Blakiston, Colonel Harvey, Colonel Wilson, Mr. Trenchard, Mr. Rolle, Mr. Leman, Mr. John Ashe, Mr. Bedding field, Sir Anthony Irby, Mr. Snelling, Mr. Boone, Colonel Harrison, Mr. Myles Corbett, Mr. Priestly, Sir Robert Pye, Sir Henry Heyman, Alderman Atkin, Mr. Bond, Sir Thomas Soame, Mr. Edward Ashe, Colonel Edwards, Mr. Challoner, Mr. Tolle, Mr. Weaver, Mr. Scott, Mr. Salwey, junior, Mr. Green, Sir Wm. Allenson, Mr. Nelthorpe, Mr. Terrick, Colonel Venne, Mr. * Allen;

This Committee is to take into Consideration the State of the Accompts of the Commissioners of the Customs Receipts and Disbursements, presented by Mr. Toomes; the Answer of the said Commissioners to the same; and the Reply of Mr. Toomes to the said Answer: And are to meet this Afternoon, in the Queen's Court, at Two of Clock: And have Power to send for Parties, Witnesses, Papers, Records; and to employ Auditors in this Business: And, upon Consideration of the whole Business, to state the Matter of Fact to the House; together with their Opinions.

The Care of this Business is more particularly referred to Mr. Salwey junior.

Letter read.

A Letter from the Committee in Kent, from Maidston, of 1 Martii 1647, was this Day read.

Westminster College.

Ordered, That the Ordinance concerning Westminster College Rents, formerly sent from the Lords, be read on Tuesday Morning next.

Impeachments.

Ordered, That, on Tuesday Morning next, the first Business, after the Reports at Goldsmiths Hall, the Impeachments be read.

Letters to be read.

Ordered, That, on Monday Morning next, the first Business, the Letters from the Lord Inchiquin, and from the Governor of Dublyn, be read, and taken into Consideration.

East India Company.

Ordered, That, on Monday Morning next, the Petition of the East India Company, touching the Transportation of Foreign Bullion, in manner as formerly be read.

Squire's Claims.

The humble Petition of John Ireton Gentleman, Executor to Thomas Squire Esquire, deceased, was this Day read. And

It is Ordered, That, on Wednesday Morning next, the first Business, Mr. Whittacre do make Report of the Business touching Monies of the said Mr. Squire's seized and taken from him by Pretence of some Authority of Parliament.
