Prayers.

Leicester Sequestrations.

ORDERED, That the Sum of Three thousand Pounds, remaining in the Hands of the Sequestrators in the County of Leicester, be, by Order of that Committee, returned up to the Committee of the Army: And that the like Sum of Three thousand Pounds be forthwith, by the Committee of the Army, returned unto Newcastle: And that the said Sum of Three thousand Pounds be repaid unto the Committee of Sequestrations in the County of Leicester, out of the Five thousand Pounds charged upon the Receipts of the Excise, and granted for the Reparations and Fortifications necessary to be made at Newcastle and Tinmouth Castle.

A Letter from Sir Arthur Hasilrige, from Newcastle, of 30th of April 1648, was this Day read.

Resolved, &c. That the House doth approve of what Sir Arthur Hasilrige hath done, in staying the Adventure Frigate * * * Ball is Captain, and employing her upon those Parts, according as he hath given Orders to the Captain: And that the said Ship do stay there till further Order.

Ordered, That that Part of the Letters from Sir Arthur Hesilrige, which concerneth the Sending of Frigates, for Defence of the Northern Parts, be referred to the Committee of the Admiralty; to take speedy Care for the Defence of those Parts.

Affairs in Lancashire.

A Letter from the Committee of Lancashire from Preston, of 28 Aprilis 1648; with the Copy of a Letter from Sir Arthur Hesilrige, the Governor of Newcastle, to the said Committee, of 18 Aprilis 1648, were this Day read. And

It is Ordered, That these Letters, and the Business concerning the Association of the Northern Counties, be referred to the Committee at Derby House: And the Gentlemen of Lancashire are desired to go to the Committee at Derby House, to advise therein.

Ordered, That it be referred to the Committee at Derby House, to consider, Whether it be fit, as Things now stand, to disband those Supernumeraries in Lancashire.

Ordered, That it be referred to the Committee of the Army, to take Course for the paying Two Months Pay to the Supernumeraries in Lancashire, in like Manner as other Supernumeraries, in other Counties, were paid.

Navy Supply.

Ordered, That the Committee of the Navy do make their Reports concerning Monies for the Navy, Tomorrow Morning, peremptorily, the first Business.

Sir Wilfred Lawson, &c.

Resolved, &c. That it be referred to the Committee at Derby House, to consider, Whether it be not fitting, (as Matters now stand) to send Sir Wilfred Lawson, Colonel Barwise, and the rest of the Gentlemen of Cumberland, down into the County of Cumberland.

Militia.

Resolved, &c. That it be referred to a Committee, to consider of settling the Militia of the Kingdom, for the present Defence thereof: Viz. unto Sir John Bampfield, Sir Dudley North, Colonel Whitehead, Sir Walter Erle, Mr. Bulkley, Mr. Buller, Sir Gilbert Gerard, Sir Henry Vane, Mr. Grove, Sir Peter Wentworth, Sir Anthony Irby, Sir Harbottle Grimston, Mr. John Browne, Mr. Dodderidg, Sir John Curson, Mr. Tate, Colonel Morley; Mr. Povey, Mr. John Corbett, Sir Thomas Dacres, Sir Henry Cholmley, Sir Wm. Litton, Mr. Swynfen, Mr. Scott, Mr. Nath. Stephens, Mr. Trefusis, Mr. Reynolds, Colonel Bowyer, Colonel Purefoy, Sir Robert Pye, Alderman Pennyngton, Mr. Miles Corbett, Mr. Vachell, Sir Mich. Lievsay, Sir Martin Lumley, Colonel Hunt, Sir John Northcott, Mr. Knightley, Mr. Boscawen: And all that will come are to have Voices: And are to meet this Afternoon at Two of Clock, in the Star Chamber; and so de die in diem; until the Business be perfected: And the care of this Business is more particularly referred to Sir Harbottle Grimston and Mr. Bulkley.

Essex Petition.

The House being informed, That divers Gentlemen, Inhabitants of the County of Essex, were at the Door, desiring to prefer a Petition to the House.

They were called in: And Major Stephen Smyth did present a Petition.

The which (the Petitioners being withdrawn) was read; and was intituled, "The humble Petition of the Grand Jury at the Assizes holden at Chelmsford, for the County of Essex, the Two-and-twentieth of March 1647, with the Freeholders and Inhabitants of the same County."

The Petitioners were again called in: And Mr. Speaker, by Command of the House, upon a Vote, upon the Question, gave them this Answer; That this House doth take Notice of the great Service, and good Affections, of that County to the Parliament; and are very confident they will so continue. As to their Petition, this House is now in Debate concerning the speedy Settlement of the Kingdom; and do not doubt, but what they shall conclude thereupon will give Satisfaction to the said County, and to all the well-affected People of the Kingdom.

Ordered, That all the Members of the House (the Commissioners of the Great Seal of England only excepted) be enjoined to attend the House To-morrow Morning by Eight of Clock: And that the Matter now in Debate be taken up again To-morrow Morning at Eight of Clock.

Information concerning Cullin.

Ordered, That it be referred to the Committee of Complaints, to examine the Business touching Thomas Cullin, upon the Information now given to this House; and to make Report to this House.
