MR. John Ashe reports Fines and Compositions from
the Committee at Goldsmiths Hall: Whereupon
it is resolved, as followeth; viz.
Resolved, &c. That this House doth accept of the Sum
of Five hundred and Fourteen Pounds, for a Fine, for the
Delinquency of Christopher Berisford, of Ledenham, in the
County of Lincoln, Esquire: His Offence, That he was
in Arms against the Parliament: He rendered upon the
Articles of Newark: His Estate, in Fee, in Possession, per
Annum, Two hundred Twenty-seven Pounds Ten Shillings; Eighty Pounds per Annum; Part of which said
Lands is entered upon, as forfeited, upon a Mortgage of
One Thousand Pounds: Which, being allowed, leaves
the Fine, at a Sixth, Five hundred and Fourteen Pounds.
An Ordinance for granting a Pardon unto Christofer
Berisford, of Ledenham in the County of Lincolne, Esquire,
for his Delinquency, and for taking off the Sequestration
of his Estate, was this Day read; and, upon the Question, passed; and ordered to be sent unto the Lords for
their Concurrence.

Delinquency of Henry Wiglesworth, of Long Preston
in the County of York, Gentleman: His Offence, That

hundred Thirty-three Pounds: Out of which issues, for
ever, per Annum, One Pound Six Shillings and Four-pence;
for One Life, per Annum, Four Pounds: Which leaves
the Fine, at a Sixth, Three hundred and Ten Pounds.

For which her Fine, at a Sixth, is Three hundred and
Twenty-four Pounds.

Sequestration of her Estate, was this Day read; and,

Banbury Castle.
Mr. Knightly reports the Business concerning Banbury
Castle.
Resolved, &c. That this House doth approve of the
Sum of Two thousand Pounds to be paid unto Wm. Lord
Viscount Say and Seal for the Castle of Banbury, being
the Lords Saie's Inheritance, and Part of his Possessions:
And that Eight hundred Pounds, Part of the said Sum of
Two thousand Pounds, be charged upon the Sequestrations in the County of Oxon; the Sum of Six hundred
Pounds, one other Part of the said Two thousand Pounds,
upon the Sequestrations in the County of Northampton;
and Six hundred Pounds more, the Remainder of the said
Sum of Two thousand Pounds, upon the Sequestrations of
the County of Warwick: And the Treasurers and Sequestrators of the several Counties of Oxon, Warwick, and
Northampton, respectively, are hereby required and enjoined to pay the said respective Sums of Eight hundred
Pounds, Six hundred Pounds, and Six hundred Pounds,
unto the said Lord Viscount Say, his Assignee or
Assignees: And the Acquittance or Acquittances of the
said Lord Viscount Say, his Assignee or Assigns, shall be a
sufficient Warrant and Discharge to the several Sequestrators and Treasurers, in the said several Counties respectively,
for Payment of the said several Sums so charged as aforesaid: And the Knights of the Shire that serve in Parliament for the several Counties of Oxon, Northampton, and
Warwick, and the Burgess for Banbury, respectively, are
required to take effectual Course, that the said several Sums,
charged upon the Sequestrations in the several Counties,
may be duly and speedily brought in, and paid to the said
Lord Viscount Say, out of the Monies at present in their
Hands, or such as shall first come unto their Hands: And
in case any Sum, above mentioned to be raised out of the
several Counties respectively, shall fall short in any of those
Counties; and that a Surplusage be found, at the present,
in the Hands of the Sequestrators of any other of the Three
Counties, above the Sum that it... rated at; that then it
shall be supplied, for the present, out of that County; and be
repaid unto them again, so soon as it can be raised, out of
the Sequestrations of that County, which, at present, shall
fall short of the Proportion set upon the same: And likewise the said Knights and Burgesses shall take care for the
orderly demolishing of the said Castle; leaving only undemolished a little Stable, and another little Storehouse,
both lately built for the Lord Say to keep his Hundred
Courts in: And that the Materials of the said Castle be
employed and bestowed for the Use and Repairs of the
Town of Banbury, according to the Intention of the
Houses: And, to that End, to appoint Overseers, to
give Directions to them accordingly.
Fowey Writ.
Ordered, That a Warrant shall issue forth, under Mr.
Speaker's Hands, directed to the Clerk of the Crown in
Chancery, to issue forth a Writ, for the new Election of a
Burgess to serve in this present Parliament for the Borough
of Fowey in the County of Cornwall, in the place of * *
formerly chosen for that Place.
Ld. Forbes' Claims.
Ordered, That the Lords Concurrence be desired in the
Order lately made for the Payment of the Monies to the
Lord Forbes, out of the Monies of Captain Dickes, remaining in the Hands of the Committee of the Navy.
Army Pay.
An Ordinance for charging the Sum of Twenty-one
thousand Pounds upon the Receipts of the Excise, in
Course, with Interest for the same, for divers Officers and
Soldiers contained in several Lists presented from the
Committee where Sir Thomas Dacres has the Chair, was
this Day read the First time; and laid aside.
Ackland's Fine.
Ordered, That the Sum of One thousand Seven hundred
Twenty-seven Pounds be accepted for the Fine of Sir John
Acland, a Delinquent, and in Arms against the Parliament,
for his Delinquency; he coming in upon the Articles of
Exeter, at the Surrender thereof.
Conveying Letters to Scotland.
Ordered, That it be referred to the Committee at Derby
House, by advising with the Lord Admiral, to take care
that a small Vessel may be appointed to go between England and Scotland, to carry Letters and Intelligence from
the Parliament of England to their Commissioners residing
in Scotland.
Transactions with Scotland.
And it is referred to the said Committee, to give frequent
Advertisements to the Commissioners in Scotland, touching the Truth of the State of the Affairs here; to prevent
the Prejudice that happens to the Affairs of the Parliament,
by Persons, disaffected to the Parliament, spreading false
Rumours in that Kingdom.
A Letter from the Commissioners of the Parliament
of England, from Edinburgh, of 24 Maii 1648; and
another Letter of the Eighth of June 1648, from the said
Commissioners; with a Paper of 25 Maii 1648; Two
other Papers of 1 Junii 1648; and another Paper of 6
Junii 1648; delivered by the said Commissioners to the
Parliament of Scotland; were this Day read.
Army Pay.
An Ordinance for charging the Sum of Forty-two-thousand Pounds upon the Sequestrations at Guildhall, London,
to be paid unto the Treasurers at Christ Church, and by
them issued forth to several Officers contained in several
Lists presented from the Committee where Sir Thomas
Dacres has the Chair, was this Day read the First and
Second time; and, upon the Question, committed unto
the same Committee that prepared and brought it in.

Revolted Ships.
Resolved, &c. That it be referred to the Committee at
Derby House, to prepare Letters to be sent from both
Houses to the States of Holland, touching the Ships that
are revolted, and are gone into those Parts.
Ordered, That it be referred to the Committee at Derby
House, to write Letters to Mr. Strickland, Resident for the
Parliament with the United Provinces, touching these
Ships that are revolted.
Navy, &c.
Resolved, &c. That the St. George and Unicorn be set
to Sea, as part of this Summer's Guard.

Ordered, That it be referred to the Committee of the
Navy, to furnish and fit the St. George and Unicorn with
Victuals, and other Provisions necessary to be set forth to
Sea.
Ordered, That the Lord Admiral be desired, with such
Ships as are fitted, or ordered to be fitted forth, and such
others as shall come in to him, to use the best Means he
can, with all possible Expedition, to reduce those revolted
Ships, and to guard the Seas, and keep open the Trade of
the Kingdom.

Ordered, That it be referred to the Committee of the
Navy, and Commissioners of the Navy, to give Order for
the Payment of such Officers, and others, of the Yards at
Chatham and Deptford, as are within the Act of Indemnity: And, to this End, they have Power to examine and
search into this Business.
Ordered, That the Lord Admiral be desired to take Order, That the Officers, and others, in... Yards at Chatham and Debtford, that have been engaged against the
Parliament, and are not within the Act of Indemnity, may
be discharged; and others put in their Places.
Ordered, That it be referred to the Committee of the
Navy, to give Orders for the Payment of such Mariners
and Seamen, as were in the late Engagement against the
Parliament, that are come in from the Ships at Sea, and
have deserted them.
Preventing Clamours at the Door.
Ordered, That the Commander in Chief, and the Guard
that do guard the House, from time to time, do keep the
clamorous Women from coming up the Stairs leading
to the House of Commons Door; and from coming into,
and clamouring in Westminster Hall, on the Speaker and
Members of the House. And
It is Ordered, That this Order be delivered to Major
General Skippon, to take care that the same be duly
executed.

Proceedings against Owen, &c.
Mr. Foxwist reports from the Committee appointed to
consider of a Way to proceed against Sir John Owen, the
Resolutions of the said Committee: Which were read;
and, upon the Question, re-committed to * * * *: With
Power to confer with the Judges upon the 23 Henr. VIII.
Cap. 23, concerning the Manner of the Tryal of Sir John
Owen; what Articles are already made touching such
Tryals; and to make Report thereof to this House on
Friday Morning next.
Ordered, That Sir John Owen be sent for up in safe
Custody, as a Delinquent, by the Serjeant at Arms, attending this House, in order to the Tryal of the said Sir
John Owen.
Raising Arms against Parliament.
Ordered, That the Lords Concurrence be desired in the
Vote passed the Eighth of December, 1646; That if any
Person or Persons whatsoever shall from henceforth raise
Arms or maintain Arms, against Both or Either of the
Houses of Parliament, or their Forces, that every such
Person or Persons shall die without Mercy; and their
whole Estates shall be confiscated.
