Admission of Members.

RESOLVED, &c. That Colonel Fleetwood, Major Salloway, Colonel White, and Colonel Wastall, be admitted into the House.

Commis rs of Assessment.

Mr. Pury reports an additional Act for Commissioners in the several Counties for the Assessment of the Ninety thousand Pounds per Mensem: Which was read; and, after divers Additions of Names at the Table, the said Act was, upon the Question, passed; and ordered to be forthwith printed and published.

Ordered, That the Commissioners for Middlesex and Westminster, for the Assessment of the Ninety thousand Pounds per Mensem, do act together, as formerly they were wont to do.

Treasons.

The House this Day took up the Debate upon the Amendments to the Act touching Treasons.

And the Act being read by Clauses, and each Clause so amended, being put to the Question, was assented unto.

And the Question being propounded, That the time for prosecuting Persons for Treasons, within the said Act, be within one Year after the Offence committed;

And the Question being put, That that Question be now put;

It passed with the Affirmative.

And so the main Question being put;

It was Resolved, &c. That the Time for prosecuting Persons for Treasons, within the said Act, be within One Year after the Offence committed.

The Question being put, That the said Act, so amended, be ingrossed;

It passed with the Negative.

Resolved, &c. That this Act, so amended, do pass.

Ordered, That this Act be forthwith printed and published.

Ordered, That the Lords Commissioners for the Great Seal of England do give Warrant, for a Certiorari to be directed out of the Chancery to the Clerk of the Parliament, to certify in to the Chancery an Act, intituled, An Act declaring what Offences shall be adjudged Treasons; to the end it may be sent with Writs into the several Counties, Towns, and Boroughs, to be proclaimed: And that the Lords Commissioners be required to issue the said Writs accordingly.

Ordered, That a Copy of this Act be forthwith sent by Mr. Speaker, to the General; to the end he may give notice thereof, as well to the Soldiers under his Command, as to others in Arms against the Authority of Parliament.

Clerk of Parliament.

Mr. Garland reports Amendments to an Act for making Henry Scobell Esquire Clerk of the Parliament, &c.: Which Amendments were twice read; and, upon the Question, assented unto.

And the whole Act, so amended, being put to the Question, passed.

Clerk of late House of Peers.

Mr. Garland reports from that Committee, That Mr. Browne Clerk of the late House of Peers, hath a Patent of the said Office for Life, and held the House as appendant to that Office; and that there is another in Reversion; and that Mr. Browne hath been a great Sufferer in his Estate, for adhering to the Parliament.

Ordered, That it be referred to the same Committee that brought in that Act, to consider what Satisfaction is fit to be given to Mr. Browne; and how he may be satisfied; and report their Opinions to the House.

Navy Supply.

Ordered, That the Commissioners for the Customs, for the Time being, shall give Letters of Credit to the Generals at Sea, to take in Provisions, not exceeding the Sum of Eleven thousand Pounds, for Supply of the Fleet at Sea, in any the Out-ports, as Occasion shall require, by Warrant from the said Generals.

Ordered, That the Committee of the Navy have Power, and be required to take care, to give Allowance to the Commissioners of the Customs, for the Time being, of all such Sums of Money as shall be due for Provisions so advanced for the Service of the Fleet at Sea, upon such Credit, out of the particular Accompts for the Customs of the several Ports wherein the same shall be so advanced.

Ordered, That the Governors or other Officers of Garisons in the Out-ports, and Members thereof, be required and injoined not to meddle with the Receipts of the Customs upon any Pretence whatsoever; but that they suffer the proper Officers belonging to the Customs to receive and return the said Monies, according to their Instructions, for the Use of the Navy.

Prisoners.

Ordered, That the Act touching Prisoners be reported on Friday next.

Soldiers Widows. &c.

The humble Petition of many poor distressed Widows, whose Husbands have lost their Lives and Estates in the present Service of the Parliament, was this Day read.

Ordered, That this Petition be referred to a Committee: Who are likewise to take into Consideration the State of Hospitals, and other Places of charitable Uses; and how some Provision may be made, in them, for the Wives and Children of such Persons as have been slain or died in the Service of the Parliament; and also for such as have been wounded and maimed in that Service, and disabled from such Service; and report their Opinions to the House:

Sir Henry Vane, Mr. Love, Mr. Jones, Mr. Garland, Colonel Bosevile, Colonel Venn, Dr. Palmer, Mr. Allen, Mr. Scott, Sir John Danvers, Alderman Atkins, Colonel Fenwick, Alderman Penington, Colonel Rich, Sir John Bourchier, Mr. Gourdon, Alderman Wilson, Mr. Whittacre, Mr. Carew, Mr. Dove, Serjeant Nicholas, Commissary Ireton, Mr. Holland, Mr. Trenchard, Colonel Hutchinson, Mr. Peirpointe, Mr. Wasthall; or any Five of them: And the special Care hereof is referred to Serjeant Nicholas: And this Committee is to meet, To-morrow at Two of the Clock, in the Speaker's Chamber. This Committee have Power also to bring in an Act to prefer maimed Soldiers, and the Widows and Children of such Soldiers as have been slain in the Service, in such Hospitals as are capable of them by their Foundations; and to propound some way for settling a certain yearly Provision for them; and report it to the House.

Ordered, That it be recommended to the Governors of Sutton's Hospital, and that they be required to present and settle, in such Places as now are, or shall fall void in the said Hospital, only such Soldiers as have been maimed in the Service of the Parliament, and the Children of such Soldiers as have been slain in the said Service.

Murder of Dr. Dorislaus.

Sir Henry Vane reports from the Council of State, the Examinations of Three Persons, Servants of Dr. Dorislaus, who were present at his Death; and likewise a Letter from Mr. Walter Strickland, dated Hague, 13/3 May 1649: Both which were read.

Sir Henry Vane junior likewise reports from the said Council of State, their Opinions touching Dr. Dorislaus his Body, his Children, and Servants.

Resolved, &c. That Two hundred Pounds per Annum, as a Pension to Dr. Dorislaus his Son, during his Life, and Five hundred Pounds apiece to each of his Daughters, Two hundred and Fifty Pounds for his Interment, and Five Pounds apiece to each of the said Three private Soldiers, and Three Pounds to Richard Peters, be charged upon the Revenue: And the Committee of the Revenue are hereby authorized and required to make Payment thereof accordingly.

Ordered, That it be referred to the Committee of the Revenue to bring in an Act for settling Two hundred Pounds per Annum to the Son of Dr. Dorislaus.

Ordered, That the Committee of the Revenue be required forthwith to pay Two hundred and Fifty Pounds, for the Interment of Dr. Dorislaus, to Mr. John Allen, Herald; who is to take care of his Interment.

Probate of Wills.

Ordered, That Mr. Hill do report the Act touching the Probate of Wills on Friday Morning next.

Murder of Dr. Dorislaus.

Mr. Lisle reports from the Council of State, a Declaration, by occasion of the Murder of Dr. Dorislaus: Which was read the First and Second time; and, upon the Question, committed unto Colonel Wauton, Sir Henry Vane, Colonel Marten, Commissary General Ireton; or any Three of them: And this Committee is to sit this Afternoon, in the Speaker's Chamber; and to bring it in To-morrow Morning.
