Navy Appointments, &c.

THE House, according to former Order, proceeded this Day upon the Report made Yesterday by Colonel Wauton, of a List of the Captains to command the Parliament Ships for the next Service; and, each of them being put to the Question, resolved the same as followeth:

A List of the Captains to command the Parliament Ships, appointed for the next Service, offered by the Generals of the Fleet, according to an Order of the Council of State.

Colonel Wauton reports Two Letters from the Navy Office; one of the Twenty-seventh of February 1649, and another of the First of March 1649: Which were this Day read.

Resolved, That the Parliament doth expect, that the several Merchants who have contracted with the Commissioners of the Navy for Ships to go forth in the Service of the State, for this Summer Guard, do perform their Contracts: And that their respective Ships do go forth under such Commanders as the State shall appoint: And that the Council of State be injoined to see the same done accordingly.

Resolved, That this House doth approve of the Buying of The Merchant Frigate, now called The Amity, for the Service of the State.

Impresting Seamen.

An Act for Impresting of Seamen, was this Day read: And, some Amendments being made at the Table, the Bill was, upon the Question, passed; and ordered to be printed and published.

Navy Volunteers.

Ordered, That it be referred to the Committee of the Navy, to consider of the Encouragement to be given to Volunteers in the Service of the State, in their Ships; and present an Act to the House, as they shall see Cause.

Building Ships.

Colonel Wauton reports from the Council of State, That the Council is of Opinion, That it is necessary that some more Ships should be built for the Service and Safety of the Commonwealth: And that it may, at this Time, be more conveniently done, in regard of the great Store of Timber that is now cut down.

Resolved, That it is necessary some more Ships should be built, for the Service and Safety of the Commonwealth.

Ordered, That it be referred to the Committee of the Navy, to consider of what Ways and Means may be fit for raising Monies for building some more Ships, for the Service of the State: With Power to receive, and consider of, any Propositions that shall be offered to them, in order thereunto; and report the same to the House.
