Woodcock's Lease.

A PETITION of Sir Thomas Woodcock was this Day read; wherein he complains, That he being, by several mean Assignments, interested in a Lease, for Three Lives, of a Farm called Strettham, in Sussex, belonging to the Bishoprick of Chichester, upon which above One thousand Pounds hath been laid out in Building and Improvement; and that Two of the Lives, in the Lease, died in the Time of the War, and the Third in February 1659; and that he thereupon did make Application to the Bishop, as soon as he was in a Capacity, to renew the said Lease; but he refused so to do, and pretends he hath granted the same to his Son;

Ordered, That the Case of Sir Thomas Woodcock be recommended, from this House, to his Majesty's Commissioners appointed in this Behalf, to treat between the Lord Bishop of Chichester and Sir Thomas Woodcock, and reconcile and settle the Difference between them, if they can; if not, to report their Opinion therein to this House: And it is also recommended to the said Bishop, from this House, to renew the Release of the Farm in Question, to Sir Thomas Woodcock, at a moderate Rate, according to ancient Use.

Fee-farm Rents.

A Bill for recovering the Arrears of Fee-farm Rents, and other Monies, was this Day read the First time.

Resolved, upon the Question, That this Bill be read again, the Second time, To-morrow Morning.

Silk-throwing.

Sir John Brampston reports from the Committee, to which the Bill for Silk-throwing was committed, several Amendments to be made in the said Bill, and two Provisoes to be added thereunto: Which Amendments he read, with the Coherence; and opened the Provisoes in his Place; and after delivered the same in, with the Bill, at the Clerk's Table. And the said Amendments and Provisoes, being severally twice read, were, upon the Question, severally agreed to.

Resolved, upon the Question, That the said Bill, with the Amendments and Provisoes agreed to, be ingrossed.

Marq. of Winchester's Estate.

An ingrossed Bill, sent from the Lords, for confirming the Estate of John Marquis of Winchester in certain Manors and Lands, whereof the Deeds and Evidences were burnt and lost, at the Taking of the Castle of Bazing, was this Day read the First time.

Resolved, upon the Question, That this Bill be read the Second time on Wednesday next.

Duke of Richmond's Estate.

An ingrossed Bill, sent from the Lords, for settling the Estate of James Duke of Richmond and Lenox according to Agreement of Charles Duke of Richmond and Lenox, Mary Duchess Dowager of Richmond and Lenox, and the Lady Mary her Daughter, and the Trustees of the Lady Duchess, was this Day read the Second time.

Privilege.

Upon reading the Petition of William Cozens, Deputy to the Serjeant at Arms attending this House; wherein it is informed, That one Game hath lately caused him to be arrested, upon an Outlawry; and that he is in Custody thereupon;

Ordered, That the said Cozens be discharged of his Imprisonment, out of the Custody of John Halgate, Bailiff, who arrested him in Breach of the Privilege of this House.

Highways.

Ordered, That the Business touching the Highways be resumed, and taken into Consideration on Thursday next.

Hearth Tax.

Sir John Brampston made Report from the Committee of the whole House, to whom the Bill for laying an Imposition upon Hearths was committed, several Amendments to the said Bill: Which he read, with the Coherence, in his Place: And several Additions and Provisoes to be added thereunto: Which he also read; and afterwards, delivered in the said Amendments, Additions, and Provisoes, together with the Bill, at the Clerk's Table: Which said Amendments, being severally twice read, were, upon the Question, agreed unto. And the said Additions and Provisoes brought in, being read Paragraph by Paragraph, after some small Amendments made therein, were severally agreed unto.

And another Proviso being tendered to be added to the said Bill; the same was twice read.

Resolved, That the Certificate therein mentioned shall not be made upon Oath.

And thereupon the said Provision was rectified in those Parts of the said Proviso, which related thereunto; and those Amendments, upon the Question, agreed unto.

And the Question being put, That the Words "Twenty Shillings" do stand in the said Proviso;

The House was divided.

So it was resolved in the Affirmative.

Resolved, That the said Proviso, so amended, be made Part of the Bill.

Resolved, That the said Bill, with the said Amendments, Additions, and Provisoes, so agreed to, be ingrossed.
