Electing Members for Durham.

A BILL for the Election of Members to serve in Parliament for the County Palatine of Durham, was read the First time.

Resolved, &c. That the said Bill be read the Second time on Monday next.

Earl of Clare's Estate.

The ingrossed Bill for settling the Possession of John Earl of Clare, deceased, and enabling Gilbert Earl of Clare to dispose of some other Part thereof, for Payment of Debts and Portions, was read the Second time.

Resolved, &c. That the Bill be committed to Sir Robert Atkins, Sir Solomon Swale, Sir Wm. Hickman, Mr. Grey, Mr. Brunckard, Lord Fanshaw, Mr. Cheyne, Sir John Coventry, Mr. Westphaling, Sir Tho. Gower, Sir Henry Cæsar, Sir Edmund Wyndham, Sir John Knight, Sir Cha. Harbord, Earl of Ogle, Mr. Morrice, Mr. Millward, Sir Tho. Allen, Sir Clifford Clifton, Mr. Weld, Sir Richard Oateley, Sir Tho. Littleton, Sir Gilbert Talbott, Colonel Phillipps, Sir Hugh Wyndham, Sir Robert Carr, Sir John Bennet, Mr. Musgrave, Sir Phillip Musgrave, Sir John Dawney, and all the Members that serve for the Counties of Stafford, Nottingham, and Middlesex: And they are to meet To-morrow at Two of the Clock in the Afternoon, in the Speaker's Chamber: And to send for Persons, Papers, and Records.

Woodmongers and Inn-holders.

Ordered, That the Committee to which the Matter concerning Wood and Coals is referred, be revived; and do sit this Afternoon, in the Place formerly appointed, notwithstanding the Sitting of the Grand Committee of Grievances.

Da Costa's &c. Nat.

The ingrossed Bill for the Naturalization of Alvaro da Costa, and others, was read.

Resolved, &c. That the Bill do pass; and that the Title shall be, A Bill for naturalizing Alvaro da Costa and others.

Leventhorpe's Estate.

Ordered, That the ingrossed Bill concerning Sir Thomas Leventhorpe be read To-morrow Morning.

Importing Irish Cattle.

An additional Bill for preventing the Importation of Irish Cattle was read the Second time.

Resolved, &c. That the Bill be committed to Sir Tho. Littleton, Sir Lanc. Lake, Sir John Moreton, Mr. Whorwood, Mr. Buscowen, Sir John Bennett, Sir Jona. Banishing Earl of Clarendon.

An ingrossed Bill, sent down from the Lords, for Banishing and Disenabling the Earl of Clarendon, was read the First time.

The House of Commons taking Notice of the Flight of the Earl of Clarendon, being under an Impeachment of the said House of Commons, for High Treason;

Proclamation for his Apprehension.

Resolved, &c. That his Majesty be humbly desired to issue out a Proclamation for summoning the said Earl of Clarendon to appear by a Day, and the apprehending him, in order to his Trial.

Ordered, That the Concurrence of the Lords be desired to this Vote: And the Lord Cavendish is to carry it up to the Lords.

Person ordered into Custody absconded.

The House being informed, That * Symonds is not to be found, and so cannot be apprehended, according to the Order of Yesterday;

Ordered, That the Farmers of his Majesty's Customs do take care to command the said * Symonds, being their Servant, to attend this House on Monday next.

Juries - Chief Justice Keeling heard.

The House then proceeded to the Hearing of the Lord Chief Justice Keeling, as to his Defence to the Matters charged against him.

Resolved, &c. That a Chair be brought into the House, for his Lordship to rest upon.

The Lord Chief Justice Keeling, being called in, made his Defence to the Matters charged against him.

Resolved, &c. That Candles be brought in.

Then the Debate of the whole Matter concerning the Lord Chief Justice Keeling . . .

Resolved, &c. That the Precedents and Practice of Fining or Imprisoning Jurors is illegal.

Resolved, &c. That this House proceed no further upon the Matter against the Lord Chief Justice Keeling.

Ordered, That the Lord St. John have Leave to bring in a Bill for declaring the Fining and Imprisoning of Jurors illegal.

Committees.

Ordered, That the Committees which were to sit this Afternoon; viz. the Committee for Grievances; the Committee upon the Impeachment of the Lord Mordant; and the Committee concerning Wood and Coal; be adjourned till To-morrow Two of the Clock in the Afternoon.

And then the House adjourned till To-morrow Eight of the Clock.
