Prayers.

Seaford Election.

A PETITION of John Amhurst, of Graie's Inn in the County of Middlesex, Esquire, was read; complaining of an undue Practice in one John Mullet, Bailiff of the Town of Seaford, in the Election of a Member to serve in Parliament for that Place; refusing to certify the Election of the Petitioner, who was duly elected by the Majority; and returning a Certificate for Sir Nicholas Pelham, who had no Right of Election.

Ordered, That the Petition of John Amhurst Esquire be referred to the Committee of Elections, to examine the Matter complained of, by the Petitioner; and report it, with their Opinions therein, to the House.

Preventing Growth of Popery.

Sir Trevor Williams reports from the Committee, to which it was referred to consider of the Address to be presented to his Majesty, to prevent the Growth of Popery; and to examine the Matter of Fact, wherein the Lords are not satisfied with the Reasons which induced the House of Commons to give Credit to the said Address: Which he opened, and read in his Place; and then, delivered the same in at the Clerk's Table:

And the same being again twice read; and, upon the Question, agreed to; are as followeth.

Resolved, &c. That a Conference be desired, by Sir Trevor Williams, with the Lords, upon the Subject Matter of the last Conference, upon the Address to prevent the Growth of Popery; and that the Persons who drew up the Reasons, do manage the Conference: And the Lord Obrian and Sir Thomas Lee are added to the Managers.

Sir Thomas Meres reports from the Committee to which the Bill to prevent the Growth of Popery was committed, several Amendments agreed by the Committee to be made, and Clauses to be added, to the Bill: Which he read in his Place; and after delivered the same in at the Clerk's Table:

Which Amendments and Provisoes were twice read; and, upon the Question, severally agreed to.

A Proviso being tendered, on the Behalf of such Persons whose Estates were sold, or that bore Arms in the War, for his late Majesty;

The Question being put, That the Proviso be read;

The House divided.

A Message from the Lords, by Sir Wm. Glascock and Sir And. Hacket;

Mr. Speaker, The Lords have returned you the Bill for the Exportation of Beer, Ale, and Mum; with some Amendments; to which they desire the Concurrence of this House.

Committees.

Ordered, That all Committees that were discontinued, be revived.

Militia.

Ordered, That the Committee to which the Matter touching the Militia, was committed, be revived; and do sit To-morrow Morning.

Employment of the Poor.

Ordered, That the Committee to which the Matter was referred, upon the Petition of the Parish of St. Giles' and other Parishes, to prepare and bring in a Bill, according to former Order, be revived; and do sit To-morrow Morning, in the Speaker's Chamber; to the end they may finish and bring in a Bill accordingly: And these Members following are added to the Committee; Lord Obrian, Mr. Henley, Sir John Lowther, Mr. St. John, Mr. Coleman, Mr. Otway, Colonel Whitley, Mr. James, Mr. Sacheverell, Mr. Head, Sir Robert Dillington, Sir Robert Holt, Mr. Mallett, Sir Charl. Harbord, Sir Thom. Bassett, Sir Trevor Williams, Sir John Pettus, Sir Henry Herbert, Mr. Croke.

And then the House adjourned till Three of the Clock, Afternoon.

ORDERED, That Sir Edward Smith have the Leave of this House to go into the Country.

Haslington Parish.

A Bill, sent from the Lords, intituled, An Act for erecting the Manor or Lordship of Haslington in the County of Chester into a Parish, was read the First time.

The Question being put, That the Bill be read a Second time;

It passed in the Negative.

Supply Bill; foreign Commodities.

The House then resolved into a Committee of the whole House, upon the Bill of additional Impositions on several foreign Commodities.

Mr. Speaker left the Chair.
Mr. Seymour took the Chair of the Committee.
Mr. Speaker resumed the Chair.

Mr. Seymour reports from the said Committee, That they had made some further Progress in the said Bill; and humbly moved, from the said Committee, That the House would resolve into a Committee of the whole House, To-morrow Morning, to proceed in the further Consideration thereof.

Resolved, &c. That this House doth agree with the Committee, That the House be resolved into a Committee of the whole House, To-morrow Morning, to proceed in the further Consideration of the additional Bill of Excise on foreign Commodities.

And then the House adjourned till Friday Morning, Eight of the Clock.
