Compton's Estate.
Sir John Birkenhead reports from the Committee to
which the Bill to enable Sir Francis Compton, and others,
to make Sale of the Manor of Hamerton in the County of
Huntington, was committed, some Amendments, agreed
by the Committee, to be made to the Bill: Which he read
in his Place; and afterwards delivered the same in at the
Clerk's Table: Where the same was twice read; and,
upon the Question, severally agreed.
Resolved, &c. That the said Bill, with the Amendments agreed to, be ingrossed.
Delays of Suits.
A Bill to revive and perpetuate an Act for avoiding
unnecessary Suits and Delays, was read a Second time.

Mr. Speaker reports, That he had attended his Majesty
with the Address of the House concerning the Duke of
Lawderdale; and that his Majesty had returned Answer,
That it was long, and of great Importance, and therefore he could not return a present Answer: But He would
consider of it, and, in a short time, return an Answer.
Temporary, &c. Laws.
Resolved, &c. That a Committee be appointed to
peruse such temporary Acts as were confirmed, and
made perpetual by the Statute of 17° Car. I; and to
consider which of them are fit to be made temporary,
and which perpetual; and to report the Matter, with
their Opinions herein, to the House.
And it is referred to Mr. Cheney, Sir Wm. Lewis, Sir
Charles Harbord, Sir Lanc. Lake, Sir Thomas Clergis, Sir
Tho. Williams, Mr. Stockdale, Sir Hen. Ford, Mr. Onslow,

Rates on Jewels, &c.
Ordered, That Leave be given to Sir George Downing,
to bring in a Bill for ascertaining the Rates as to rough
Jewels, Ginger, and Corn ground, which shall be imported; and also of setting a Rate on Piamento, or Jamaica Pepper, and Cocoa-nuts.
Ascertaining Measures.
Ordered, That a Committee be appointed to peruse
the Acts concerning Measures; and to bring in a Bill to
remedy the Defects therein; and to ascertain the Measures for the future, as they shall see Cause.
And it is referred to Mr. Sacheverell, Sir Edward
Deering, Mr. Hampden, Sir Lanc. Lake, Sir John
Covert, Sir John Knight, Sir John Bramston, Sir Wm.
Lewis, Mr. Garraway, Colonel Birch, Sir Tho. Lee,
Mr. Powle, Mr. Newport, or any Three of them.
Earl of Danby's Impeachment.
The House then proceeded in the further Consideration of the Articles of Impeachment against the Lord
High Treasurer of England.
And the first Article being read; and the Patent
granted to Mr. Mountney, dated the Twelfth of November
last, being also read;
And Mr. Mountney being called in, and heard to
several Questions, touching the Method of Payment of
Monies arising upon the Customs;
And several Members of the House having also given
an Account touching the same; and of the Method of
issuing publick Monies;
And the Matter being debated;
The Question being put, Whether it appears by this
Patent, that there is fit Matter in the First Article for an
Impeachment;
It passed in the Negative.
Another Patent being read, bearing Date the 31th of
March last, relating to the Farming of the Excise;
And a Debate arising thereupon;
Resolved, &c. That the further Debate of the Matter,
upon the Patent last read, be adjourned till To-morrow
Morning, Ten of the Clock: And the Chancellor of the
Exchequer is desired to be present, if he be in a Condition of Health: And that the Debate, touching the
Navy, be put off till Thursday Morning next.
Repairing Highways.
Ordered, That these Members following be added to
the Committee to whom it is appointed to inspect the
Laws for Repairing and Maintaining of Highways, and
consider wherein they are defective; and to prepare and
bring in a Bill for the effectual Repairing and Maintaining
thereof; viz. Colonel Norton, Mr. Foote, Mr. George
Clerk, Sir Wm. Windham, Sir Wm. Portman, Sir John
Coventry, Sir Tho. Dolman, Mr. Neale, Sir Wm. Lewis,
