Lunæ, 19 die Martii, 1676.

Plimpton Election.

A PETITION of Richard Strode Esquire, was read, complaining of an undue Return of George Treby Esquire, to serve for the Borough of Plimpton in the County of Devon, in Wrong of the Petitioner, who was duly elected by the Majority of those Voices that had the legal Right of Election.

Resolved, &c. That this Petition be referred to the Committee of Privileges and Elections; to examine the Matter of the Petition, and report the State of the Case, with their Opinions therein, to the House.

Delays in Suits.

A Bill, sent from the Lords, intituled, An Act to revive and perpetuate a former Act, intituled, An Act for avoiding unnecessary Suits and Delays, was read.

Resolved, &c. That this Bill be read a Second time.

Augmenting Vicarages, &c.

A Bill, sent from the Lords, intituled, An Act for confirming and perpetuating Augmentations, made by Ecclesiastical Persons, to small Vicarages and Curacies, was read the Second time.

Resolved, &c. That this Bill be committed to Mr. Crowch, Sir Anth. Irby, Sir Richard Ford, Sir Wm. Coventrey, Sir Henry Ford, Sir Lanc. Lake, Sir John Trevor, Mr. Spry, Sir Tho. Allen, Sir Edward Deering, SirJohn Berkenhead, Mr. Harbord, Mr. Mallett, Mr. Eyres, Sir Geo. Downing, Sir James Smith, Sir Edward Masters, Sir Gilbert Gerard, * Greaves, Sir Trevor Williams, Sir Tho. Clargis, Sir Jonathan Trelawny, Mr. Sawyer, Sir Tho. Littleton, Sir Francis Russell, Mr. Serj. Maynard, Sir John Knight, Mr. Wynne, Sir Cha. Regulating Attorneys.

Ordered, That a Bill be brought in, for suppressing the Abuses, and lessening the Number, of Attorneys.

Liberty of the Subject.

Ordered, That the Report of the Bill, touching Writs of Habeas Corpus, be heard on Wednesday next.

Duty on Diamonds.

Ordered, That the Bill for settling the Duty on rough Diamonds be read To-morrow Morning.

Leave of Absence.

Ordered, That Sir John Fagg have the Leave of the House to go into the Country for a Fortnight.

Privilege- Petition from a person in custody.

A Petition of Mr. Thomas Sturmy, an Attorney, committed for a Breach of Privilege; acknowledging his Offence, and craving Pardon of the House; was read.

Ordered, That Mr. Sturmy be called in to the Bar of this House, to be discharged of his Commitment.

Mr. Sturmy, being called in, had a Reprimand given him by Mr. Speaker.

Ordered, That Mr. Sturmy be discharged from his Commitment, paying his Fees.

Ditto.

A Petition of John Hawkins, committed for a Breach of Privilege, against Sir Richard Ford, was read.

Ordered, That John Hawkins be called in to the Bar of this House, to receive his Discharge.

John Hawkins being called in, and kneeling at the Bar, had a Reprimand given him by Mr. Speaker.

Ordered, That the said John Hawkins be discharged of his Commitment, paying his Fees.

A Member renounces his Election.

Mr. Leveson Gower did, this Day, in the House, disclaim and renounce his Election and Return, to serve for the Borough of New Malton, in the County of Yorke.

And the House allowed thereof.

Popish Recusants.

A Bill, sent from the Lords, intituled, An Act for Explanation of an Act for preventing Dangers which may happen from Popish Recusants, was read.

Resolved, &c. That this Bill be read a Second time:

Papists not to sit in Parliament.

And that the Bill for hindering Papists to sit in either House of Parliament be read a Second time the same Day.

Writ for burning Heretics.

A Bill to take away the Writ Dehæaeretico comburendo, was read.

Resolved, &c. That this Bill be read a Second time To-morrow Morning.

Supply Bill; building Ships.

A Bill for raising of a Supply to his Majesty, for building Thirty Ships, was read the Second time.

Resolved, &c. That the said Bill be committed to a Committee of the whole House.

Resolved, &c. That it be referred to the said Committee, to consider, whether the City of London shall have Ease; and how.

Supply.

Resolved, &c. That this House will, on Friday Morning next, at Ten of the Clock, resolve into a Committee of the whole House, to proceed upon the Bill of Supply.

Committees.

Ordered, That all Committees, which are discontinued, be revived; and do sit this Afternoon in the Places formerly appointed.

Lord Kilmurrey's Estate.

Sir John Berkenhead reports from the Committee to which the Bill on the Behalf of the Lord Kilmurrey, was committed, some Amendments agreed by the Committee to be made to the Bill: Which he read in his Place; and afterwards delivered the same in at the Clerk's Table: Where the Amendments were again twice read; and, upon the Question, severally agreed to.

Resolved, &c. That the Bill, with the Amendments agreed to, be ingrossed.

Yarmouth Pier.

Ordered, That the Bill concerning Yarmouth Pier be read To-morrow Morning, after the Report of the Leather Bill.

And then the House adjourned till To-morrow Morning, Eight of the Clock.
