Members take Oaths.

THE House being met, proceeded further in the Taking of the Oaths of Allegiance and Supremacy, and making and subscribing the Declaration directed by the Act made in the Thirtieth Year of his now Majesty's Reign, intituled, An Act for the more effectual preserving the King's Person and Government, by disabling Papists from sitting in either House of Parliament.

And such Members, as were present, having taken the said Oaths, and made and subscribed the said Declaration;

Actions for Trespass.

A Bill to correct vexatious Actions of Trespass was read the First time.

Resolved, &c. That the Bill be read a Second time.

Double Returns.

Ordered, That all Members, returned upon Double Returns, do withdraw.

Grand Committees.

Ordered, That the Grand Committee for Religion do sit every Tuesday in the Afternoon, in the House.

Ordered, That the Grand Committee for Grievances do sit every Thursday in the Afternoon, in the House.

Ordered, That the Grand Committee for Trade do sit every Saturday in the Afternoon, in the House.

Mompesson, Mr. Pollixfen, Mr. Strode, Sir Cyrill Wych, Mr. Pelham, Mr. Raynton, Mr. Montague, Sir Henry Hobart, Sir Robert Markham, Sir John Trevor, Sir John Fagg, Sir Thomas Byde, Mr. Vernon, Sir John Fenwick: And all that come are to have Voices: And they are to meet To-morrow in the Afternoon, at Two of the Clock in the Speaker's Chamber; and every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, at Two of the Clock in the Afternoon, in the Place before-mentioned; and to take into their Consideration all such Matters as shall or may come in Question touching Returns, Elections, and Privileges; and to proceed upon Double Returns in the First Place; and to report their Proceedings, with their Opinions therein, to the House, from time to time: And all Persons that will question Returns, are to do it in Fourteen Days next; and so within Fourteen Days after any new Return shall be brought in: And the said Committee is to have Power to send for Witnesses, Persons, Papers, and Records, for their Information. And all Members who are returned for Two or more Places, to make their Elections by this Day Three Weeks, for which of the Places they will serve, provided there be no Question upon the Return for that Place; and, if any thing shall come in Question, touching the Return, Election, or Matter of Privilege, of any Member, he is to withdraw during the Time the Matter is in Debate.

Ashburton Election.

A Petition of Richard Duke, Esquire, touching the Election for the Borough of Ashburton in the County of Devon, was read.

Ordered, That the said Petition be referred to the Consideration of the Committee of Elections and Privileges; to examine the Matter thereof; and to report the same, with their Opinion therein, to the House.

Bristoll Election.

A Petition of Sir Robert Atkins, Knight of the Bath, and Sir John Knight, and others, Burgesses and Freeholders of the City of Bristoll, touching the Election for the said City, was read.

Ordered, That the Matter of the said Petition be heard at the Bar of this House on next Monday- sevennight.

Denbigh Election.

A Petition of Richard Middleton Esquire, touching the Election for the County of Denbigh, was read.

Ordered, That the Merits of the said Election be heard at the Bar of this House on next Wednesday- sevennight.

Southwarke Election.

A Petition of the Burgesses and Inhabitants of the Borough of Southwarke in the County of Surrey, touching the Election for the said Borough, was read.

Ordered, That the said Petition be referred to the Consideration of the Committee of Elections and Privileges; to examine the Matter thereof; and to report the same, with their Opinion therein, to the House.

Portsmouth Election.

A Petition of Sir Richard Stephens, touching the Election for the Borough of Portsmouth in the County of Southampton, was read.

Buckingham Election.

A Petition of Sir Peter Tyrrell Baronet, and Charles Blount Esquire, touching the Election for the Borough of Buckingham in the County of Buckingham, was read.

Ordered, That the said Petition be referred to the Consideration of the Committee of Elections and Privileges; to examine the Matter thereof; and to report the same, with their Opinion therein, to the House.

Exon Election.

A Petition of the Citizens and Freemen of the City of Exon, touching the Election for that City, was read.

Ordered, That the Matter of the said Petition be heard at the Bar of the House on next Monday-three-weeks.

Haslemere Election.

A Petition of Denzill Onslow and Francis Dorrington Esquires, touching the Election for the Borough of Haslemere in the County of Surrey, was read.

Ordered, That the said Petition be referred to the Consideration of the Committee of Elections and Privileges; to examine the Matter thereof; and to report the same, with their Opinion therein, to the House.

Mitchell Election.

A Petition of Humphry Burlace and Nicolas Burlace Esquires, touching the Election for the Borough of Mitchell in the County of Cornwall, was read.

Ilcester Election.

A Petition of Sir William Stroude and John Speake Esquire, touching the Election for the Borough of Ilcester in the County of Somersett, was read.

A Petition of Sir Robert Atkins Knight of the Bath, Sir John Knight, and other Burgesses and Freeholders of the City of Bristoll, touching the Election for the said City, was read.

Denbigh Election.

A Petition of Richard Middleton Esquire, touching the Election for the County of Denbigh, was read.

Ordered, That the Merits of the said Petition be heard at the Bar of this House on next Wednesday-sevennight.

Newcastle Writ.

William Leveson Gore, being elected and returned to serve in this present Parliament as one of the Knights of the Shire for the County of Salop, and also a Burgess for the Borough of Newcastle under Line in the County of Stafford, made his Election to serve for the County of Salop.

Ordered, That Mr. Speaker do issue out his Warrant to the Clerk of the Crown, to make out a new Writ, for the Election of a Burgess to serve in this present Parliament for the Borough of Newcastle under Line, in the room of the said William Leveson Gore.

Printing the Votes.

Resolved, That the Votes and Proceedings of this House be printed: And that the Care of the Printing thereof, and the Appointment of the Printers, be committed to Mr. Speaker.

Protestant Dissenters.

The House taking notice, That a Bill, which passed both Houses the last Parliament, intituled, An Act for the Repeal of a Statute made in the Thirty-fifth Year of the Reign of Queen Elizabeth, was not presented to his Majesty, (as the rest of the Bills were), for his Royal Assent;

Resolved, That this House will, To-morrow Morning, take into Consideration, By what means the said Bill miscarried.

Protestant Religion and King's Person.

Resolved, Nemine contradicente, That this House will, on Saturday next, at Ten of the Clock, consider of Means for the Security of the Protestant Religion, and for the Safety of the King's Person.

And then the House adjourned to Eight of the Clock To-morrow Morning.
