HODIE 1^a et 2^a et 3^a vice lecta est Billa, An Act for the Naturalizing of Sir Thomas Areskin, and Alexander Areskin his Son, and all other the Children of the said Sir Thomas, born in the Kingdom of Scotland, or wheresoever within the King's Majesty's Dominions.

Berwick on Tweed.

Hodie 1^a vice lecta est Billa, An Act for Confirmation of the King's Majesty's Charter and Letters Patent, granted to the Mayor, Bayliffs, and Burgesses of the Borough of Berwick upon Twede, and their Successors, and of the Franchises, Liberties, Privileges, Jurisdictions, and Customs of the said Borough.

Printing.

The Amendments on the Bill re-committed concerning Printing, etc. was brought into the House, by the Earl of Shrewsbury, the first of the Committees, with a little Addition or Alteration of the said Amendments; which were presently Twice read, and thereupon the Bill appointed to be ingrossed, with the said Amendments.

Watermen, etc.

Hodie 1^a vice lecta est Billa, An Act concerning Wherrymen and Watermen.

Jernegen's Lands for Payment of his Debts.

The Amendments on the Bill for Sale of certain Lands of Mr. Jernegen, etc. were this Day Twice read; and thereupon the Bill, with the said Amendments, appointed to be ingrossed.

Commissioners to treat concerning the Union.

Hodie 1^a vice lecta est Billa, An Act authorizing certain Commissioners of the Realm of England to treat with Commissioners of Scotland, for the Weal of both Kingdoms.

Wardships.

Hodie eadem Billa 2^a vice lecta, and was referred to the same Committees that are appointed this Day to meet with the Lower House about the Matter of Wards, etc.

The Queen's Jointure.

Hodie allata est Billa a Domo Communi, An Act for Confirmation of the Jointure of the most High and Mighty Princess Anne, Queen of England, Scotland, France, and Ireland; returned from the said House, with a Saving, which was presently Thrice read, and so the Bill expedited.

Message from the House of Commons, concerning a Book, supposed to be wrote by the Bishop of Bristol.

Complaint made, by a Message from the Lower House, delivered by Sir Edward Hobbie and others, concerning a certain Book, which of late (as they said) fell into their Hands, intituled, (fn. 1)

By the publishing of which Book (tending to make Division and Strife) they conceive Wrong and Dishonour done both to the Lower House and to the Lords themselves, that the Secrets of that House should be discovered, touching such Matters as had been by them debated, heard, and allowed by the Lords, approved by the Judges of the Realm, and assented unto by His Majesty; which Fault, if any of their House had committed, they protested that they would have inflicted exemplary Punishment on him: But, because they supposed it to be the Work of some in the Upper House, they desired Conference with the Lords, to consider what Course may be fit to be taken in it.

Answer.

Answer returned, by Mr. Serjeant Crook and Mr. Dr. Hone, That, when the Lords have perused the Book (which as yet the most of them had not done), and may conceive how it may touch the Honour of either House, they will shew themselves as tender and sensible of it as the Lower House; and therefore the Lords (as soon as they have considered of the Book) will give them Knowledge, some Time at their Sitting the next Week, of a Time of Conference. Furthermore, the Lords required the said Messengers to let them know, that (in regard of the important Business in Hand, and of the long Time already spent this Parliament) their Lordships purposed to sit again in the Upper House upon Monday Morning in the Whitson Week, and desired them to do the like in their House. Whereunto they returned this Answer, That, although they conceived the Motion to proceed from the Lords out of good Respect towards them, yet, because they have not understood of any Precedent heretofore for sitting in Parliament at such like Time, and in respect a great Number of their House, dwelling near the City, did intend as this Day to repair Home, and not to return again till after the Holidays, they therefore desired to be held excused for their Sitting until Wednesday next.

Lord Abergavenny summoned to Parliament.

Hodie introductum suit Breve, quo Edwardus Dominus Bergevenny presenti Parliamento interesse summonebatur, qui admissus est ad suum in sedendo Eminentiæ locum, salvo cuique jure suo.

Introduced.

This Day, the Lord Bergevenny, who (by Order and Determination of the House, and by His Majesty's Direction) had been restored to the Dignity of that Barony (as is before recorded), and having accordingly received His Majesty's Writ of Summons to the Parlia ment, of the Tenor under-written, was brought into the House, in his Parliament Robes, by the Lord Lawarr and by the Lord Stafford, in their Parliament Robes also; and took his Place or Room next above the Lord Audley.

"Cum nuper, de Avisamento et Assensu Concilii Nostri, pro quibusdam arduis et urgentibus Negotiis, Nos, Statum et Defensionem Regni Nostri Angliæ et Ecclesiæ Anglicanæ concernentibus, præsens Parliamentum Nostrum, apud Civitatem Nostram Westm. decimo nono die Martii ultimo præterito, teneri ordinavimus; et ibidem, cum Prælatis, Magnatibus, et Proceribus dicti Regni Nostri, Colloquium habere et Tractatum; vobis, sub Fide et Ligeantia quibus Nobis tenemini, firmiter injungendo mandamus, quod, consideratis dictorum Negotiorum Arduitate et Periculis imminentibus, cessante Excusatione quacunque, vicesimo sexto die instantis mensis Maii, ad præsens Parliamentum Nostrum personaliter intersitis, Nobiscum, ac cum Prelatis, Magnatibus, et Proceribus prædictis, super dictis Negotiis tractaturi, vestrumque Consilium impensuri. Et hoc, sicut Nos et Honorem Nostrum, ac Salvationem et Defensionem Regni et Ecclesiæ predictæ, Expeditionemque dictorum Negotiorum diligitis, nullatenus omittatis. Teste Meipso, apud Westm. 25 die Maii, Anno Regni Nostri Angliæ, Franciæ, et Hiberniæ Secundo, et Scotiæ Tricesimo septimo."

Lady Mary Vane restored to the Barony of Le Despenser.

This Day also (26 Maii) were read in the House, His Majesty's Letters Patents, bearing Date 25 Maii, for Restitution of the Lady Mary Vane, and her Heirs, to the Dignity of the Barony of Le Despenser.

A Draught (conceived by the Clerk of the Parliament) of the Order of Proceeding and Determination of the House, touching the Claim and Title to the Barony of Bergevennie, betwixt Mr. Edward Nevile, Heir Male, and the Lady Fane, Heir General, was this Day read in the House; and thereupon referred to the Lords under-named, to be perused, considered of, and reformed, according as they should find Cause:
