Lord Chief Justice of England,
Lord Chief Baron,
Mr. Justice Warberton.
Mr. Serjeant Crooke,
Mr. Attorney General, |
To attend the Lords. |
Appointed to meet at the Painted Chamber, near
the Parliament Presence, upon Saturday next,
the 8th of this instant February, by Two of the
Clock in the Afternoon. The Bill delivered to
the Lord Archbishop of Cant.
Memorandum, Mr. Attorney General to inform the
House, in the Forenoon of the same Day, concerning
the Evidences against the Parties to be attainted by this
Bill.
Preservation of Religion, His Majesty, and the State.
Report made by the Lord Archbishop of Canterbury,
That the Committees appointed to consider of the Laws
that tend to the Preservation of Religion, His Majesty,
the State, and Common-wealth (as was Ordered and Directed the first Day of this Session of Parliament), have
met together, and accordingly entered into Consideration
of the same; but, understanding that the Lower House
hath the like Purpose, and so far proceeded in it, as
that they are ready in that House to frame a Bill for it;
therefore the said Lords Committees thought meet to
offer unto the Consideration of the House, whether it
shall not be fit to stay for some Conference with a
Committee of the Lower House, before any farther
Proceeding; which Motion being liked, Mr. Serjeant
Crooke, Mr. Dr. Carew, and Mr. Dr. Stanhope, were sent
to the Lower House, with a Message to this Effect: To
let them know, that the Lords having entered into Consideration of the State of this Kingdom (especially by occasion of the late horrible Accident), and of the Laws for
Preservation of Religion, His Majesty, and the State, as
aforesaid; and having Knowledge of the same Care
taken likewise in the Lower House, do therefore desire
Conference with a Committee of that House, for the
better Proceeding in it (signifying that the Lords would
nominate a Committee of Forty, or thereabouts); and
that withall they would impart unto them some other
Matters of Importance.
Answer returned, That the Message was respectively
received; the Conference agreed unto; their Number
should be Eighty; and the Time and Place at the Appointment of the Lords.
Signification given again, by Mr. Serjeant Crooke and
Mr. Dr. Stanhope, of the Time to be on Thursday next,
the Sixth of this Instant, by One of the Clock in the
Afternoon; and the Place at the Painted Chamber, near
the Parliament Presence.
And Answer returned of Assent for the said Time and
Place.
Motion made by the Earl of Salisbury, for a Time
to be taken by the Lords Committees, to consider beforehand, and to be prepared of those particular Points
whereof they may speak with the Committee of the
Lower House. The Meeting to be To-morrow, being
Tuesday, the Fourth of this Instant, by Eight of the Clock
in the Morning, in the Painted Chamber aforesaid. This
Motion assented unto.
