Downs's Lands to pay Debts.

THE Bill concerning the Sale of certain Lands of Edward Downes, Esquire, for Payment of his Debts, brought into the House by the Lord Treasurer, the first of the Committees, without Alteration or Amendment.

Subsidies by the Clergy.

Hodie prima, secunda, et tertia vice lecta est Billa, An Act for Confirmation of the Subsidies granted by the Clergy.

Memorandum, That, at the Second and Third Reading of the said Subsidy, the Body of the Grant comprized in the Instrument was omitted to be read (according to the accustomed Manner); and only the Preface and Confirmation of the said Grant were read.

The said Bill, together with the Instruments concerning the said Subsidies for the several Provinces of Canterbury and Yorke, were sent this Day to the Lower House, by Mr. Serjeant Crooke, Sir Richard Swale, and Sir John Tindale; and also a Message to this Effect:

Matters Ecclesiastical.

That whereas, at the last Meeting with the Committees of the Lower House, upon Monday, the 5th of May, concerning the Four Ecclesiastical Points, the Time served not to speak of all those Matters; and it was therefore thought meet, that there should be a new Meeting and Answer given them concerning the same; the Lords are willing to give them such Meeting and answer accordingly, upon Saturday next, the 10th of May, by Two in the Afternoon, at the Painted Chamber, near the Parliament Presence.

Answered, That they will attend the said Meeting, at the Time and Place prefixed.

Agreed by the Lords, That, in the Forenoon of the same Day, it shall be debated and considered in the House, how to proceed for some Resolution to be taken in the said Committee?

Attainder of Offenders in the late Treasons.

Message from the Lower House, by Mr. Secretary Harbert, and others: That whereas they have received a Bill from the Lords, intituled, An Act for the Attainder of divers Offenders, in the late most barbarous, monstrous, detestable, and damnable Treason; they find, by the Committees, some Things fit to be amended in the Bill; but they will not take upon them to do it of themselves, and therefore desire Meeting and Conference for it with the Lords.

Answered, That the Lords will appoint about the Number of Forty Committees of their House, to give them Meeting on the said Bill To-morrow, being Friday, the 9th of May, by Two in the Afternoon, at the Painted Chamber.

Matters Ecclesiastical.

Report made by the Lord Bishop of Winchester of that which past at the last Meeting with the Lower House, upon Monday, 5th May, touching the Point of the Ecclesiastical Commission: which was allotted to be replied unto by his Lordship.

The like Report by the Lord Bishop of Bath and Wells, concerning the Matter of Citation, and particularly of the Point of Quorum nomina.

And by the Lord Bishop of Chichester; touching the Oath ex Officio, which was appointed to be handled by him, in Respect of the Sickness of the said Bishop of Bathe and Wells at that Time.

Holditch's Bill.

The Bill, intituled, An Act for the Relief of John Holditch, Gentleman, disinherited by the extraordinary Amending of the Errors of a Fine, was this Day returned to the House, by the Earl of Northampton, the second of the Committees, with Signification, That the Committees, or some of them, having advised with sundry of the Judges, and, according to their Opinions, written to the Tenants of those Lands, whom the said Bill concerned, to yield Mr. Holditch some Composition as they formerly promised (but afterwards did go from the same, upon some Advantage taken by Occasion of amending of a Fine concerning the said Lands, before the Composition was perfected and agreed on); the said Tenants have now returned Answer; videlicet, some of them very coldly offering some Composition, and others absolutely refusing to compound at all; so as the said Committees thought good to return the Bill as aforesaid, and to leave it to the Judgement of the House.

The said Bill was forthwith returned by the Lord Treasurer, the first of the Committees, with certain Amendments; which were presently Twice read, and ingrossed in Paper, to be sent to the Lower House.

Declaration made by the Lord Chancellor of the Report of the Earl of Northampton, upon the returning of Mr. Holditch's Bill to the House, to such Effect as was that Day entered in this Book; and thereupon the said Bill (according to the ordinary Course) appointed to be ingrossed.
