Ayton and Bowie's Naturalization.

The House was moved, That the Bill for the Naturalizing of Sir Robert Ayton, Knight, and James Bowie, Serjeant of His (fn. 1) Majesty's Wine Cellar, might be amended in the Title and Body of the Bill; which was presently done, and the Amendments Twice read, and written in Paper, annexed to the Bill, for that the same came up from the Commons.

His Majesty's Privilege.

Bellamy's Arrest.

The House being moved on the Behalf of Original Bellamye, one of the Yeomen of His Majesty's Guard, who was arrested in March last, at the Suit of one Bryan Cooke and others, by the Under Sheriff of Nottinghamshire, contrary to the Privileges belonging to His Majesty's Servants in Time of Parliament; it is this Day Ordered, That an Habeas corpus cum causa be awarded to the Sheriff of the County of Nottinghamshire, for the bringing of the said Originall Bellamy before their Lordships, on Monday the Fourth of June, in the Morning; and that the Serjeant at Arms attending this House do cause the said Bryan Coke, and the said Undersheriff, to be brought before their Lordships, at the same Time, to answer their Contempt in the said Arrest.

E. of Mountague's Lands settled for particular Uses.

Hodie 1a vice lecta est Billa, An Act for settling of certain Manors and Lands of the Right Honourable Anthony Viscount Mountague, toward the Payment of his Debts and raising his Daughters Portions.

Wool and Yarn.

The Lord Treasurer reported, That the Lords Committees of the Bill for the free Buying and Selling of Wools and Yarn have considered thereof, and find the same fit for a Third Hearing, without any Amendments.

Hodie 3a vice lecta est eadem Billa, and, being put to the Question, was Assented unto, nemine dissentiente.

Parliament to be adjourn'd.

The Lord Treasurer declared unto the House, That Yesterday His Majesty, advising with the Lords of His Privy Council thought fit (and so hath commanded me to let you know) to adjourn the Parliament at this Time, for these Causes.

Reasons.

1. The Season of the Year, by the Continuance of this great Concourse of People, may cause Infection.

2. The Use, that this Time of the Year may have of the Lieutenants of the Shires, and the Justices of Peace in the Country.

3. Because the Courts at Westm. Hall have not had their ordinary Proceedings during this Session.

4. For that the Profits of His Majesty's Revenues are as it were at a Stand.

5. The Omission of State.

The Reasons why He will adjourn it rather than prorogue it, are these:

1. For that the Adjournment keeps a kind of Being in the Parliament.

2. Whereas, as many good Bills are preferred, and not as yet past, the Adjournment reserves them in the same State they now are.

3. It will keep many Laws in Continuance, which will end with a Session, without a special Proviso for the same.

4. His Majesty's Free and General Pardon is not yet prepared, which His Majesty intends to the better Sort of His People as well as to the meanest.

5. Being there are so many Bills exhibited, His Majesty cannot, in so short (fn. 2) Time, apply His Mind to advise which Bills to accept of, and which to refuse.

As, in this Parliament, His Majesty hath already redressed the Corruptions of the Chief Courts of Justice, and (by His Proclamation) called in the Patent of Inns and Hosteries, and forbidden Bills of Conformity, which were Things very grievous to His Subjects; so His Majesty cherisheth the Bill against Informers, against the Abuse of Supersedeas, against Monopolies, against Recusants, for Limitation of Suits, with an Intent to perfect them.

His Majesty also purposeth to reform divers other Grievances to His People.

His Majesty's Pleasure is, That you perform the Acts in the House against Saturday next, especially that of Sir John Bennett; and hath appointed Sunday next, in the Afternoon, to hear any Thing concerning any other Grievances.

And, on Monday next, His Majesty will send a Commission for the Adjournment of the Parliament.

Message from the H. C. concerning Adjournment.

Message from the Lower House, by Sir Edward Coke and others:

The Knights, Citizens, and Burgesses of the House of Commons, desire that the Lords would be pleased to vouchsafe them a free Conference, touching the Message which they received from the King's Majesty, for the Adjournment of the Parliament; which they desire with Expedition; but they humbly leave the Time and Place, and Number of Committees to the Lords.

The Lords are pleased, with a Committee of their whole House, to join with the Commons in such a free Conference To-morrow Morning, at Nine of the Clock, in the Painted Chamber.

Message to the Commons.

That, whereas heretofore a Conference was had, between a Committee of this House and a Committee of the Commons, touching a Bill against Informers, &c. and a Sub-committee of both Houses have met thereon, and departed, seeming to have fully accomplished that Business, yet (now that some Difficulties and Doubts have happened) the Lords desire a Re-conference between the Sub-committees of both Houses, concerning the same Bill. To meet To-morrow, at Three of the Clock in the Afternoon, in the Painted Chamber.

Keeping the Sabbath.

The Lord Archbishop of Cant. the first of the Committee of the Bill of Sunday, reported the same fit to have a Third Reading, with some Amendments in the Title and Body of the Bill; whereupon the said Amendments were presently Twice read.

The said Committee also reported the Bill of Supersedeas fit to have a Third Reading, without Amendment; the which was presently Twice read.

Hodie 3a vice lecta est Billa, An Act to prevent and punish the Abuses, in procuring Process of Supersedeas for the Peace, and good Behaviour, out of His Majesty's Courts at Westm. to prevent the Abuses in procuring Writs of Certiorari out of the said Courts, for the removing of Indictments found before Justices of the Peace in their several Sessions.

And the said Two Bills, with the Amendments annexed, were returned to the Commons, by Mr. Justice Wynch and Mr. Justice Hutton.

Manor of Little Munden to Woodhall.

The Earl of Essex reported the Bill for the Conveyance of the Manor of Little Munden unto Thomas Woodhall, Gentleman, by Sir Charles Cæsar, Knight, et alios, fit to have a Third Reading, with an Amendment; the which Amendment was presently Twice read; and the Bill Ordered to be ingrossed.

Style's Naturalization.

Hodie 2a vice lecta est Billa, An Act for the Naturalizing of Dorothie Style, the Daughter of Thomas Style, of London, Merchant.

Carr's Naturalization.

Sir Robert Carre (who hath exhibited his Bill to be Naturalized) took the Oaths of Supremacy and Allegiance, according to the Statute; and the Lord Danvers, and divers other Lords, testified that the said Sir Robert Carre had received the Communion at Whitsontide last.

Adjourn.
