Sutton's Hospital.
The House was moved, That a Second Proviso might
be added unto the Bill for Confirmation of Sutton's
Hospital.

Whereupon the said Bill was re-committed; and the
Earl of Essex reported, That the said Committee thought
fit that a Proviso for the Lady Viscountess Maydeston
and others, Inhabitants in Charter-house-yard, was fit
to be added to the said Bill.

Claim of the Competition touching the Earldom of Oxford, determined.
The King's Reference to the House of the Petition
of the Competitors for the Earldom of Oxon, etc. being read;
It is Agreed, upon the Question, That the Earldom
of Oxon is descended, and ought of Right to come, unto
the Heir Male, nemine dissentiente.
It is Agreed also, upon the Question, That the Baronies of Bolbecke, Sanford, and Badlesmere, are in
His Majesty's Disposition.
Office of Great Chamberlain referred to the Judges.
And as touching the Office of Great Chamberlain
of England, it is Agreed, That the Judges shall consider
and report to the House:
1. Whether that Earl of Oxon, who made the Entail of the said Office, were at that Time seized of the
said Office.
2. Admitting that he were seized of it, then whether
such an Office may be conveyed by the Way of limiting of Uses.
And the Judges are to demand of Mr. Wright a Deed,
which he hath in his Custody, of an Entail of the said
Office made by an Earl of Oxon; in which Deed the
said Earl is stiled Lord Great Chamberlain of England.
And the Judges are to deliver their Opinion on Tuesday next to the House.
Petition of the Captives in Barbary.
The Earl of Bridgewater reported to the House a
Petition, exhibited on the Behalf of near Two Thousand poor Mariners, now remaining in most woeful and
miserable Captivity, in Sally, in Barbary; which being
read, and much debated how the said Mariners might be
most speedily ransomed; it was committed unto the

of the Clock in the Afternoon.
The Petition of the Earl of Bristoll was read, in hæc
verba: videlicet,
"To the Right Honourable the Lords of the Higher
House of Parliament.
E. of Bristol's Petition for his Writ of Summons.
"The humble Petition of John Earl of Bristoll.
"Humbly shewing unto your Lordships, That, being a Peer of this Realm, he hath not received any
Writ of Summons to come unto this Parliament.
"He therefore, as a Member of this House, and a
Peer of this Realm, beseecheth your Lordships, that
you would become Mediators for him to His Majesty,
that He will be pleased that he may enjoy the Freedom of a Subject, and the Privileges of a Peer of
the Realm (after almost Two Years Restraint, without
being brought to any Trial); and (fn. *) that, if he shall be
charged with any Crime or Offence, His Majesty will
be pleased to remit him and his Cause to the Examination and Censure of Parliament; to which he most
humbly submitteth himself. And that, until he shall
appear a Delinquent, he may not be impeached in his
Liberty or Access to this House. And he shall be
bound to pray to God for your Lordships Prosperities."
This Petition being read; the Lord Keeper signified
unto the Lords, That His Majesty did command him not
to send any Writ of Summons unto the said Earl to come
unto this Parliament.
It is Agreed, That this Petition be referred unto the
Lords Committees for Privileges, etc.
Committee for the Safety and Defence of the Kingdom.
The Committees for Defence and Safety of the Kingdom, etc. are to meet this Afternoon, at Two of the
Clock, in the Painted Chamber.
Forging E. of Huntingdon's Protections.
It is Ordered, That, if George Gardner doth not, by
this Day Sevennight, bring in Tymothy Castleton, to answer the counterfeiting and forging of divers Protections,
under the Hand and Seal of the Earl of Huntingdon;
which Protections the said Gardner confesseth he sold,
but affirmeth that he received them of the said Tymothy
Castleton; that then the said Gardner himself shall answer for the counterfeiting and forging of the same.
Memorandum, That the said Gardner had a Warrant
from the House, on the 13th Day of this Month, directed to the Serjeant at Arms and his Deputies, to apprehend and bring the said Castleton before their Lordships.

Peter Bradshawe, who arrested James Hancocke, the
Earl of Cleveland's Man, is respited to attend till Tomorrow.
