Tuesday after the Feast of St. Peter ad Vincula [1 Aug.] came Peter de "Monkeut," Alan de Suffolk, and Fremund de Dunstaple and acknowledged themselves jointly and severally bound to Edmund de Dynieton, clerk, in the sum of £10; to be paid at the Feast of All Saints, and unless, &c.

The said Peter moreover acknowledged himself bound to the said Edmund by letters under the seal of the Earl (?) of Lincoln in the sum of £60, under the proper names of men of the town of Bayonne, appointed by the lord the King to receive the custom of wool, hides, &c.; to be delivered to the said Edmund, or to Nicholas Pycot, the Chamberlain, to the use of the said Edmund, on the eve of the Nativity B. M. or earlier. In default the said Peter agrees that two writings, viz., one a compromise between him and the said Edmund under the seal of the said Peter, and the other under the seal of certain arbitrators, now deposited with Nicholas Pycot, shall be delivered to the said Edmund for him to enforce. It was at the same time agreed that if the said Peter should satisfy the said Edmund as to the above letters before the day named he should be quit, with the exception of the sum of £10, to be paid to the said Edmund, &c.

(Afterwards, viz., on Sunday the morrow of the Nativity B. M., the said Edmund came and demanded the delivery of the above writings; and the said Peter being summoned and failing to appear, and the matter not admitting of further delay, the writings were given up, &c. Afterwards, viz., on Thursday after the Feast of All Saints, the same year, the said Edmund came and acknowledged satisfaction. It is therefore cancelled, &c.)

[A.D. 1302], came Henry de Boudene in full Husting before the Mayor and Aldermen and acknowledged himself bound to Thomas, son of Thomas de Oxford, Adam his brother, and Cecilia and Johanna his sisters in the sum of £100; to be paid, viz., £30 at Michaelmas and Christmas, and £40 at Easter. Thomas de Suffolk and William de Reed become sureties for the payment of £40, and William de Coumbe Martin, Peter de Blakeneye, William Vincent, and Ralph de Araz sureties for the remainder.

(Afterwards, viz., on Saturday before the Feast of Annunciation, anno 33 Edward I., the said Thomas, son of Thomas de Oxford, came before John le Blound, Mayor, and Richard Poterel, Chamberlain, and acknowledged that he had received from the above sureties the sum of £18 12s. 8½d., and that the whole of the debt had been paid except 74s. 5d., which he afterwards received from William Vincent on Friday after the Feast of St. Luke, anno 33.
