[A.D. 1301], came Robert de Biry, mercer, and acknowledged himself bound to Robert de Kelleseye in the sum of £4, which he had borrowed last Michaelmas on the understanding that the money would be repaid on the following Michaelmas together with half of the profits derived therefrom; to be paid within fifteen days, &c.

The same day came Isabella Buchard and acknowledged herself bound to the Commonalty of London on behalf of the above John de la Mare in the sum of 13s. 4d.; to be paid on the morrow.

(Satisfied.)

Also the said Isabella acknowledged to Nicholas de Cokfeld on behalf of the same in the sum of 6s. 8d.; to be paid within fifteen days.

And be it known that the said Nicholas [Pycot] has a letter of the said Nicholas [le Gode] touching the said debt, &c.

(Afterwards, viz., on Friday after the quinzaine of Easter, anno 35 Edward I., the said Nicholas Pycot came before Richard Poterel, the Chamberlain, and acknowledged that he had received of the debt the sum of £90 9s. 1½d.)

The said creditor further holds the debtor's bond, &c.

[A.D. 1301-2], came Robert called "Box," peverer, and acknowledged himself bound to Peter Andreu and his fellow-merchants of Montpellier of the company of Peter de Bossoneys of Montpellier in the sum of £48; to be paid, viz., one moiety at the Feast of St. James at St. Botolph's Fair, and the other at the Feast of Exaltation of H. Cross at Winchester Fair; and unless, &c.

Friday the morrow of St. Peter in Cathedra [22 Feb.], 30 Edward I.[A.D. 1301-2], a deed was acknowledged whereby William Everard, goldsmith, made over to Roger le "Paumer," "blader," a debt of 43 marks due to the said William by Henry [le] Coupere, baker, whose body and lands and tenements he had seized in satisfaction; the said Roger to recover the said debt in his stead and to pay him the sum of 25 marks at Easter, A.D. 1303.

The same day was acknowledged a lease by Henry le Coupere, baker, and Johanna his wife to Roger le "Paulmer," "blader," of all their bakehouses, &c., situate in the parish of Aldermariecherche between the tenement of Adam Selues (Selnes ?) towards the west, the tenement of John le Feyner towards the east, the tenement of Manekyn le Heumer towards the north, and the King's highway towards the south; to hold the same for a term of three years from Easter, A.D. 1302.

Thursday after the Feast of St. Matthias [24 Feb.], 30 Edward I.[A.D. 1301-2], came Thomas de Kent, saddler, and acknowledged himself bound to Nicholas Pycot, mercer, in the sum of 111s.; to be paid by five quarterly instalments of 20s., commencing at Easter, and one instalment of 11s. In case of default or death, execution to be had for the whole debt, &c.

(Afterwards, viz., on Wednesday after the octave of St. Michael, anno 31 Edward I., the said John, son of Philip, came and acknowledged satisfaction. It is therefore cancelled.)

Tuesday after mid-Lent came Ralph de Honilane, goldsmith, and acknowledged himself bound to Richard Doge and Nicholas le Gode in the sum of £25; to be paid by quarterly instalments of 12s. 6d., commencing at Midsummer, until, &c. For this recognizance the said Richard and Nicholas demised to the said Ralph a certain house in the parish of St. Peter on Cornhulle for a term of ten years, as in a certain writing between them made more fully is contained, &c.

(Afterwards, viz., on Thursday the Feast of St. George, anno 32 Edward I., the said Bartholomew came and appointed Giles de la Mote, falconer, to be his attorney to receive the money, and later the said Giles came and acknowledged satisfaction for 6 marks of the debt, for which amount the debtor is quit.)

Acknowledgment by Laurence de Totenham, corder, and Roysia his wife, daughter of Roysia la Spicere, wife of Matthew le Spicer, that they had received from William de Laufare, Henry de Merlawe, and John, son of the said Matthew, executors of the said Roysia la Spicere, a legacy of 100s. left by the said Roysia to Juliana, Margaret, Roger, and John, her children; to be paid to the said children upon their coming of age, viz., to Juliana 60s., to Margaret 20s., and to Roger and John respectively 10s.; for the due execution of which the said Laurence and Roysia bind themselves, their lands, tenements, &c., and make recognizance on Saturday after the Feast of St. James [25 July], anno 30 Edward I.[A.D. 1302], before the Chamberlain, &c.

Tuesday after the Feast of St. Peter ad Vincula [1 Aug.] came Peter de "Monkeut," Alan de Suffolk, and Fremund de Dunstaple and acknowledged themselves jointly and severally bound to Edmund de Dynieton, clerk, in the sum of £10; to be paid at the Feast of All Saints, and unless, &c.

The said Peter moreover acknowledged himself bound to the said Edmund by letters under the seal of the Earl (?) of Lincoln in the sum of £60, under the proper names of men of the town of Bayonne, appointed by the lord the King to receive the custom of wool, hides, &c.; to be delivered to the said Edmund, or to Nicholas Pycot, the Chamberlain, to the use of the said Edmund, on the eve of the Nativity B. M. or earlier. In default the said Peter agrees that two writings, viz., one a compromise between him and the said Edmund under the seal of the said Peter, and the other under the seal of certain arbitrators, now deposited with Nicholas Pycot, shall be delivered to the said Edmund for him to enforce. It was at the same time agreed that if the said Peter should satisfy the said Edmund as to the above letters before the day named he should be quit, with the exception of the sum of £10, to be paid to the said Edmund, &c.

(Afterwards, viz., on Sunday the morrow of the Nativity B. M., the said Edmund came and demanded the delivery of the above writings; and the said Peter being summoned and failing to appear, and the matter not admitting of further delay, the writings were given up, &c. Afterwards, viz., on Thursday after the Feast of All Saints, the same year, the said Edmund came and acknowledged satisfaction. It is therefore cancelled, &c.)

Tuesday before the Feast of St. Margaret [20 July], 30 Edward I. [A.D. 1302], came Henry de Boudene in full Husting before the Mayor and Aldermen and acknowledged himself bound to Thomas, son of Thomas de Oxford, Adam his brother, and Cecilia and Johanna his sisters in the sum of £100; to be paid, viz., £30 at Michaelmas and Christmas, and £40 at Easter. Thomas de Suffolk and William de Reed become sureties for the payment of £40, and William de Coumbe Martin, Peter de Blakeneye, William Vincent, and Ralph de Araz sureties for the remainder.

(Afterwards, viz., on Saturday before the Feast of Annunciation, anno 33 Edward I., the said Thomas, son of Thomas de Oxford, came before John le Blound, Mayor, and Richard Poterel, Chamberlain, and acknowledged that he had received from the above sureties the sum of £18 12s. 8½d., and that the whole of the debt had been paid except 74s. 5d., which he afterwards received from William Vincent on Friday after the Feast of St. Luke, anno 33. Therefore they are quit.)

And of the aforesaid debt Nicholas Pycot, the Chamberlain, holds a certain writing obligatory containing the sum of £31 in equal hand (in equali manu); to be restored to the said Robert if the above money be paid. And the aforesaid Nicholas Pattok appoints William de Wynchelsee his attorney to receive the money, &c.

(Afterwards, viz., on Wednesday after the Feast of St. Nicholas in the following year, the said William came and acknowledged satisfaction. It is therefore cancelled.)

The said Sir Ranulph appoints Robert de Kelleseye his attorney to receive the money, &c.

(Afterwards, viz., on Saturday after the Epiphany, anno 31 Edward I., the said Sir Ranulph came before J[ohn le Blount], the Mayor, and the Chamberlain and acknowledged that William de Horsham bound himself by statute in the sum of £8 3s. 4d. He therefore quitclaims the aforesaid Peter and the rest. They afterwards paid. It is therefore cancelled.)

And the said Roger appoints John "Sparwe," mercer, or Richard de Roklonde to be his attorney.

(Afterwards the said John "Sparewe" came and acknowledged that he had received £8 of the debt. They are therefore quit to that extent, &c. Afterwards, viz., on Tuesday after the Exaltation of H. Cross, anno 7 Edward II., William de Hedersete, mercer, is appointed attorney in the place of John "Sparwe.")
