Griffith sent for, for defaming Lady Herbert.
The House being informed, "That one Mr. Griffin
hath defamed an Honourable Lady, the Lady Herbert:" It is Ordered, That the Gentleman Usher
of the Black Rod shall presently attach him, and (fn. *) bring
him before this House, to answer the same.
Ld. Delaware's Privilege, to free him from the Soldiers billeted in his House.
It being informed, "That the Constables of Walton,
in Surrey, have billeted divers Soldiers, in a House
which the Lord Delaware hath taken there, and doth
live in with his Lady and Family, which is a great
Inconvenience to him, and, as he conceives, a Breach
of Privilege of Parliament; he humbly desires, being
a Peer of the Realm, that he may have an Order of
this House, to free his Lordship's House where he
dwells, and all the Out-houses belonging to it, from
any Soldiers or their Horses to be billeted or quartered, or in any Part thereof; and that all Constables,
Captains, and other Officers, be enjoined to observe
the same, as they will answer the contrary."
And this (fn. †) House Ordered all the Premises accordingly.
Deputy Lieutenants for Northumberland.
Ordered, That this House nominates and appoints
Henry Ogle of Eglingham Esquire, Wm. Shaftoe of Bavington Esquire, Thomas Lorraigne of Kirkeharle Esquire,
George Paylor of Barwicke Esquire, to be Deputy Lieutenants in the County of Northumb.; and the Concurrence of the House of Commons to be desired herein.
Ordinance to raise Money, for maintaining the Forts, &c. about London.
The Ordinance for raising Monies for maintaining
the Forts about London was read Twice, and committed
to the same Committee for the Ordinance of Sixty six
Thousand Six Hundred and Sixty-six Pounds, Thirteen
Shillings, Four Pence; and to meet To-morrow in the
Afternoon, at Two of the Clock; at which Time some
of the Committee at Gouldsmithes Hall are to attend the
said Committee, to give an Account what Monies they
have received for the Affairs of the Scotts.
Preachers at the Fast.
Ordered, That Mr. Hill and Mr. Wilkinson shall (fn. ‡)
hereby have Thanks given them from this House, for
preaching before the Lords on Wednesday last, at the
Abby Church Westm. being the Day of the general
Fast; and that they are desired to print and publish their
said Sermons.
Ordered, That Mr. Callamy and Mr. Obadiah
Sedgwicke are hereby appointed to preach before the
Lords, in the Abby Church at Westm. at the next Public Fast, on the 25th of December next.
Oldham, One of the E. of Denbigh's Troopers, to be freed from an Arrest.
Upon reading the Petition of Ralph Oldham, One of
the Life Guards to the Earl of Denbigh; complaining,
"That he hath been lately arrested, at the Suit of
Nathan Wright; and desires he may enjoy that Privilege as others do, who are in the present Service
of the Parliament." Hereupon this House Ordered, That he shall be forthwith released from his Restraint, and set at Liberty; and he being in Execution,
it is Ordered, (fn. *) That the Clerk of the Crown shall
issue out a Habeas Corpus, for discharging him.
Examination concerning Col. Butler and the Ld. General.
The House being informed, "That a Sub-committee
of the Committee of both Kingdoms was appointed,
to examine something concerning Colonel Butler;
and there was by that Sub-committee Examinations
taken touching the Lord General's own Person,
which Examinations his Lordship was informed were
transmitted to the Committee of the House of Commons for Reformation of the Army:" This House
appoints the Earl of Northumb. to acquaint the Committee of both Kingdoms with it, and to make Report
of their Answer to this House concerning the same.
Ordinance for the Attainder of the Archbp. of Cant.
The House was adjourned into a Committee of the
whole House during Pleasure, to debate the Ordinance
concerning the Attainder of the Archbishop of Canterbury.
The House being resumed; it is Ordered, That
this Business shall be taken into further Consideration on
Monday next, at Eleven of the Clock; at which Time
all the Lords are to have Notice to attend this House
that Day, upon Pain of the Forfeiture of Twenty Pounds
apiece, to be employed for the Relief of maimed Soldiers; and the Judges are to attend that Day.
