Secondary of Woodstreet Compter sent for, for not releasing Townshend, the E. of Denbigh's Servant.
Upon reading the Petition of Thomas Tounsende;
shewing, "That as, by Order of this House, he was to
be released from his Restraint, being Servant to the
Earl of Denbigh; which Order being served upon
the Secondary of Woodstreat Compter, he denieth
without a Habeas Corpus to release him thereupon."
Whereupon it is Ordered by this House, That, the
said Tounsend being not upon Execution, but Mean Process, the Secondary of The Compter shall be sent for, to
answer his Contempt to the Order of this House.

the Place of the Members of the Houses, the Names of
such Persons which they have thought fit to recommend
to the Judgement of both Houses for those Places;

John Reading, Secondary to The Poultry Compter, was
brought to this (fn. *) Bar, for refusing to obey the Order
of this House, in releasing Tounesende, menial Servant

Cromwell, for continuing him in his Command Forty

Votes for the Scots Army to March Southward.
"Resolved, by the Lords and Commons in Parliament
assembled, That both Houses do desire, that the Scotts
Army would speedily advance Southward; and that
the Parliament will take Care to put those Northern
Parts into a Posture of Defence.
To be supplied with Provisions.
"Resolved, &c. That the Scotts Army shall have
Provisions in their March, giving their Tickets for the
same; and that the same shall be re-paid to the Persons of whom they shall receive them, out of the
Monthly Pay assigned to the Scotts Army by the last
Ordinance.
"Ordered, That this Answer be returned to the
Scotts Commissioners here, and likewise sent to the
Committees and Commissioners of both Kingdoms
residing with the Scotts Army, who are desired to take
Care that the said Order for Provisions be speedily
performed."
Committee for Government of Plymouth.
"Ordered, by the Lords and Commons in Parliament assembled, That a Committee, consisting of the
Number of Five, be appointed to have the Command
of the Garrison of Plymouth, and Fort and Island there,
and to order and direct the Government thereof, until
both Houses take further Order; videlicet, Justinian
Peard now Mayor of the Town of Plymouth, Colonel
James Kerre, Mr. Thomas Ceely, Colonel John Crocker,
Mr. John Bere, or, any Three of them; and that Colonel Kerre have the Command of the Forces in that
Garrison, under the Committee.

Lieutenant Colonel James Hobart, to be Governor of
Lyn, in the Place of Colonel Walton.

Colonel George Newman, to be Governor of Upner
Castle and the Two Sconces there, as amply as Captain Richard Lee formerly held the same.
"Resolved, &c. That the Houses do approve of
Major John Boyce, to be Lieutenant of Dover Castle.

Life-guard of the late Lord General, an Allowance.
Ordered, That the Life-guard of the late Lord
General shall have Three Shillings per Diem more
than an Ordinary Trooper.

Ordered, That Captain Knight's Troop shall have
One Shilling per Diem more than an Ordinary Trooper.
General Skippon's Captain Lieutenant of Horse, Ditto.
Ordered, That Serjeant Major General Skippon's
Captain Lieutenant of Horse shall have, with his
Lieutenant's Pay, the full Allowances as a Captain of
Horse hath.
4 Commissioners of the Army, and their Clerks, Ditto.
Ordered, That the Four Commissioners of the
Army shall have Twenty Shillings per Diem apiece,
and for their Four Clerks Thirteen Shillings Four Pence
per Diem, to be paid by the Treasurers.
Carpenters Pay.
Ordered, That the Entertainment of Ten Carpenters, at Eighteen Pence per Diem each, shall be
added to the Establishment.
Committee of both Kingdoms to receive and discharge Messengers, &c. from the King's Quarters.
"Ordered, by the Lords and Commons in Parliament assembled, That it be referred to the Committee of both Kingdoms, to receive and discharge
all Trumpeters, or other Messengers, that shall come
from the King's Quarters to this Town; and to report their Messages to the Houses; and to discharge
the Trumpeters that are already here, and to take
Care of defraying the Expence of the Trumpeters
that have been detained here for some Time."

Colonel Edward Rosseter to have the Command of
all the Forces of Horse and Foot of the County of
Lyncolne.
"Resolved, &c. That the Houses do approve of
Lieutenant Colonel Browne, to be Governor of Lyncolne.
"Resolved, &c. That the Houses do approve of
Lieutenant Colonel Browne, to be Colonel of the Regiment of Foot at Lyncolne, which formerly was
Colonel King's; and it is recommended to the Members of Parliament that are of the Committee of
both Kingdoms, to grant him a Commission to be
Colonel of the said Regiment.
"Resolved, &c. That the Houses do approve of
Lieutenant Colonel Siler, to be Governor of Boston,
in the County of Lyncolne."
Ordinance to provide Monies, for Pay of Waggoners, Soldiers, and poor Widows.
"Be it Ordained, by the Lords and Commons now assembled in Parliament, That Wm. Greenhill, John
Randall, John Pocock, and Rich'd Hutchinson, Treasurers appointed for the sick and maimed Soldiers, or
any Two of them, shall have Power, and are hereby
authorized, to receive all and singular Sum and
Sums of Money, due and arrear to the State, upon the Ordinance for the Three Months Weekly
Assessment, dated about the Fourth of March, 1642,
for the Maintenance of the Army, and other great
Affairs of the Commonwealth, and not formerly
disposed of by Ordinance of Parliament; and all
Collectors of the said Monies are hereby enjoined
to make speedy Payment of the Monies so in Arrear
upon the said Ordinance to the said Treasurers,
whose Acquittance shall be a Discharge unto the
Collectors in that Behalf; and shall also receive the
Sum of One, Thousand Pounds out of Habberdashers
Hall, after all former Assignments charged there
before the Date hereof: And be it further Ordained, That the said Treasurers shall issue the said Money, towards the Payment and Satisfaction of such
Soldiers, Waggoners, and their Widows, to whom
the State is indebted, according to such Warrants as
from Time to Time the Committee for the Army
sitting in the Dutchy Chamber at Westm'r, or any Four
of them, under their Hands, shall direct and appoint;
whose Warrant, together with the Acquittance of
the Parties, shall be a sufficient Discharge to the said
Treasurers for what they shall so pay: And be it
further Ordained, That the said Treasurers shall also
receive all such Sum and Sums of Money as are due,
or shall accrue due to the State, by an Ordinance
bearing Date the Eighth of July, 1644, being an
additional Excise of some Commodities not formerly
excised, and appointed to be paid unto Sir Gilbert
Gerrard by an Ordinance bearing Date the 3d Day
of August following; and the same shall issue and pay
unto such Person and Persons as the said Committee,
or any Four of them, shall appoint, for the Uses
mentioned in the said Ordinance."
Committee of Oxon, Bucks, and Berks, to raise Money for General Browne's Forces, for the Reduction of Oxford.
"It is this Day Ordered and Ordained, by the
Lords and Commons in Parliament assembled, That
the Committee of the Three Counties of Oxon,
Bucks, and Berks, or any Two of them, or such
Persons as that Committee shall appoint for that Purpose, shall have Authority, and are hereby enabled,
to take the voluntary Subscriptions of any Persons
whatsoever, both Members of either House of Parliament and others, for the maintaining of additional
Forces under the Command of Major General Browne
to these Forces he hath already, for Four Months,
at the usual Pay, for the Taking of Oxford; and what
Forces and Money shall be raised by such voluntary
Contributions shall be employed for the Taking of
Oxford, and not diverted or employed in any other
Service whatsoever; and the said Committee of the
Three Counties are hereby authorized to treat and
confer with any Committees, or other Persons, of the
Cities of London or elsewhere, for the better carrying on of this Work; and are to bring in an Ordinance for this Purpose."
General Cromwell to be continued in his Command.
"Whereas Lieutenant General Cromwell is now actually in the Service of the Parliament, and in Prosecution of the Enemy: It is this Day Ordered and
Ordained, by the Lords and Commons in Parliament
assembled, That Lieutenant General Cromwell shall
continue in the Employment he is now in for Forty
Days longer; notwithstanding the late Ordinance, or
any Clause therein, that discharges the Members of
either House to have any Military or Civil Command or Office."
Sir Nathaniel Barnardiston to receive the Remainder of a Debt due to him.
"Upon the reading of the humble Petition of Sir
Nathaniel Barnardiston (a Member of the Commons
House); setting forth, That he had received Four
Hundred Seventy-nine Pounds, Seven Shillings, Seven
Pence, of Mr. Robert Webb, Collector of the Four
Hundred Thousand Pounds Subsidy in the County
of Suff. in Part of a Debt due from the State: It is
Ordered, by the Lords and Commons in Parliament assembled, That it be referred to the Treasurers at Guildhall for the said Four Hundred Thousand
Pounds Subsidy, speedily to consider of his Warrants, and to allow of the Payment of the said Four
Hundred Seventy-nine Pounds, Seven Shillings, Seven Pence; and to pay the Remainder which shall
be found due to the said Sir Natha. Barnardiston,
according to his said Warrants; for which this shall
be a sufficient Discharge, as well to the said Treasurers as to the said Mr. Webb, and to every other
Person who are to give any Discharge for the same."
