PREBENDARIES

M. William of Keynsham (fn. 150)

Clerk, occ. June × Dec. 1209, with bp. Jocelin and Hugh of Wells bp. of Lincoln (Cal. I 491-2). Prob. can. when occ. c. 1213 (Chart. Bath II 14 (no. 58)). Occ. without title 11 and 12 July 1214, with bps. Jocelin and Hugh (Acta of Hugh of Wells nos. 8-11; cf. Curia Regis Rolls VII 238). Appd. to new, eleventh, preb. of Combe, 6 June 1215 (Cal. Ch. Rolls V 26). First certain occ. as can. of Wells 23 Sept. 1217, with bp. Hugh of Lincoln, in Lincs. (Acta of Hugh of Wells no. 63; Liber Ant. Lincoln pp. 81, 94, 96). Pres. to church of Waltham (Lincs.) Dec. 1218 × Dec. 1219 (Rot. Welles I 157-8). Occ. frequently at Wells from c. 1230 (Cal. I 29). Parson of Winscombe (Som.) 1230s (ibid. pp. 360, 361). Last occ. ? 27 Nov. 1245 (ibid. p. 123) and 10 Jan. 1246 (ibid. p. 129). The long time-span suggests that he is prob. not to be identified with M. William of Keynsham, can. of Chichester, who first occ. 1197 × c. 17 March 1204, and last occ. Oct. 1237 (as tentatively suggested in 1 Fasti V 73).

Next identified preb. is M. John de Offord, who first occ. as can. 24 Sept. 1336; also dean of Arches (Cal. I 237; and see 2 Fasti VIII 33).
