Footnotes

2 Secretary of state.
1 This entry in the bp.'s reg., giving the date of coll. as 17 Sept., occurs between 29 Dec. 1601 and 27 Jan. 1602. The bp.'s certificate gives the date of coll. as 17 Dec. (P.R.O., E 331 Chich./3). The bp.'s mand. for instal., dated 13 Dec., is perhaps the right date (Cap. 1/8/33).
2 On nomin. of William Beveridge to be bp. of Bath and Wells, royal warrant n.d. 1691 for gr. of his preb. to René Berteau D.D. (Cal. S.P. Dom. 1690-1 p. 358), but Beveridge refused the bishopric.
1 29 Apr. in Gent. Mag. 1767, xxxvii 279.
2 Not Goldcall, as given by Le Neve-Hardy.
3 His m.i. in Ashburnham churchyard gives his d. as 2 Oct. (Suss. Arch. Coll. xxxii p. xxi).
