Abolishing the Star-chamber.

The Lord Bishop of Lincolne reported the Free Conference Yesterday, concerning the Amendments of the Bill concerning the Star-chamber, etc. and the Additions and Alterations were read.

High Commission-court.

Next was read the Alterations and Amendments concerning the Bill touching the High Commission Court.

The First Clause in the Proviso thereunto is not admitted; but it was Resolved that the last Clause therein shall stand.

No Lord to speak against the Sense of the House at a Conference.

When a Preparation and Ground is made and Resolved of here in this House, for a Conference with the House of Commons, and the major Sense of the House agrees upon that which shall be delivered there, no Lord is to speak contrary to what was the general Sense of this House.

Abolishing the Star-chamber.

Amendment to it to be proposed at a Conference.

Then the House was adjourned into a Committee during Pleasure, to debate the Amendments in the Bill concerning (fn. *) the Star-chamber, etc. And the House being resumed, a Conference with the House of Commons was resolved on, that the Word ["Liberties"] may be left out in the said Bill; and propound unto them that there may be (fn. *) a Bill drawn for the Preservation of the Liberties of the Subject in his Person, from Commitments by the Lords of the Council, Judges, and other Inferior Officers, without Cause shewed.

A Message was sent to the House of Commons, by Serjeant Ayliffe and Serjeant Whitfeild:

To desire a Free Conference, by a Committee of both Houses, presently, if it may stand with their Conveniency, touching the Bill concerning the Star-chamber, and regulating of the Privy Council.

Order concerning Relief, and Respite of Homage of the Peers.

Ordered, That there be a Stay of all Process for Reliefs and Respite of Homage, against the Peers of this Realm, until the Cause be heard and determined in the Lords House of Parliament; and further, that the said Business is hereby referred to the Consideration of the Lords of the Committee for Privileges, who are to meet on Monday next, being the 12th of this Instant July, of which Time the King's Counsel are to have Notice, and shall be heard what they can say touching this Business; and lastly, that the Clerks of the Exchequer shall then attend, and inform their Lordships how and by what Means the Judgement in the Exchequer against the Nobility of this Kingdom, concerning Reliefs and Respite of Homage, was gained, whether upon a nihil dicit, or whether upon a Judgement.

Turkish Pirates.

Ordered, That the Committee for the Bill to prevent the mixing and sophisticating of Wines, do meet To-morrow Fortnight; and the French Merchants are to attend.

Bill against Pluralities, &c.

Ordered, That the Committee concerning the restoring of Ship-money shall meet on Saturday Morning next, at Eight a Clock.

Inhabitants of Lincolnshire against Sir Walter Norton.

Ordered, for the better expediting of the Cause depending in this House, by the Complaint of many of the Inhabitants of the County of Lincolneshire, against Sir Walter Norton, Knight, late High Sheriff of the said County, That the Depositions taken in Court, or out of the Court of Star-chamber, and all Exhibits brought into that Court against the said Sir Walter Norton, upon an Information of the King's Attorney General against him, and not yet published, shall be delivered to the Lords Committees of this House by the Clerk of the Counsel for that Court, by them to be considered of, to be made Use of in this House at the Hearing of the Cause.
