Succentory

Succentor of the cans. established as an office in perpetuity 13 Nov. 1230, with church of Tunstall (E.R.) annexed (Reg. Gray pp. 52-3). Succentor to deputise for prec. in his absence (ibid.).

Valuation

1291 £13 6s. 8d. (Taxatio pp. 305b, 322a).

There was also a succentor of the vicars (Chs. Vicars Choral p. xviii; see K. Edwards, English Secular Cathedrals (2nd edn.: Manchester, 1967) pp. 170-1).
