Francis Lord Verulam Lord Chancellor of England
The humble Petic'on of the Master Wardens and Assistants of the
Society of Scrivenors of the Citty of London
Shewing That the Petic'oners being an Auncient Brotherhood of the said
Citty and lately by his Majesties Letters Patents dated xxviij° Januarii xiij°
Jacobi (fn. 1) incorporated they have reduced into a Booke divers auncient
Ordinances and Orders by their Predecessors heretofore made, and some
others by the Petic'oners lately framed, all for the well ordering and good
Government of the said Society which they humbly present unto your good
Lordshipp, referring the reformac'on and alterac'on of them to your honoble
Wisdome, And humbly craveing your Lordships allowance and approbac'on of them with the two Cheife Justices according to the Statute
[Rawl. D51, p. 33] of xix° Henrici Septimi.
And your Petic'onrs: as in duty they are bound shall daily pray for the
happy State of Your Lordsp; with increase of honor long to continue
The Lord Chancello rs Reference to the Cheife Justices
I desire my Lords the two Cheife Justices first to peruse and consider
of them and to deliver me their opinions xij°. Octob: 1618

The Cheife Justices Opinions of y e Ordinances
Perused by me Henry Mountague And these Ordinances as now they
are I hold fitt to passe

I have perused them and thinke they may well passe
H: Hobart.
The Lord Chancello rs Warrant for ingrossing them
xxj° Januarii 1618. Upon the two Lord Cheife Justices opinions let
these constituc'ons be ingrossed.
