Commission to William Coleyn canon of [St Paul's] cathedral, in execution of a writ of 20 December 1380 ordering collection of a tax voted in All Saints church Northampton, whose terms are 22 February and 24 June 1381, which is to be levied at two rates, 6s 8d on all ecclesiastical persons over the age of sixteen, and 1s 0d on deacons, subdeacons, acolytes, those under the age of sixteen, and the notoriously poor, with the order to appoint collectors and to certify their names to the exchequer before 2 February 1381. Inspeximus of an agreement between the vicar of Great Bardfield (Berdefeld Magna) parish church, on one side, and William Ponde, Walter Wolpet, Adam Bersle, Thomas Pollard, John Draper and John Elyn clerk of Bardfield Saling (Berdefeld Salyng), parishioners of Bardfield Saling chapel within the jurisdiction of Great Bardfield, on the other, that the chapel should be dedicated and free burial had there and all other things as in places dedicated by a bishop; in return the parishioners of Bardfield Saling will come in procession with oblations to Great Bardfield on Ascension day, instead of All Saints' day as formerly; they will offer oblations on the feast of the dedication of Great Bardfield church; and they will pay a third of a third, less a quarter, of its upkeep. Mandate to William bishop of Winchester to publish in all the churches of his diocese the sentence of excommunication, dated 1 September 1381, pronounced by John prior of Christ Church Canterbury against those who killed Simon late archbishop of Canterbury, sons of damnation who violently entered the palace and other manors of the archbishop against his wish and the wishes of his ministers, drank his wine and seized his goods; they broke into his prison at Maidstone (Maidenston), seized the prisoners and compelled them to depart; broke into his chase known as 'le Bruyl' in Chichester diocese and the adjacent parks; hunted, killed and took away the wild beasts there; not content with this they entered the Tower of London, beat and wounded the archbishop and finally took him outside the Tower and decapitated him, and carried his head, to which his episcopal hat was affixed by a nail in the brain, through the city shouting, 'Here is the predator's head'; then they placed it on London bridge.
