Answer from the H. C.
Mr. Serjeant Whitfield and Dr. Heath, sent Yesterday with a Message to the House of Commons, return
with this Answer:
That they agree to all the Message, excepting to
that concerning Colonel Waight; touching whom, they
will send an Answer by Messengers of their own.
Committee to treat with The States Ambassadors.
Ordered, That the Earl of Bolingbrooke and the
Lord Dacres is added to the Committee of Lords that
are to treat with The States Ambassadors, concerning
their Demands of Restitution of Ships, &c.
Jennings and Dawes.
Ordered, That the Counsel of Mr. Jennings and
Sir Tho. Dawes shall be heard on Friday next come
Sevennight, concerning the Bonds of Ten Thousand
Pounds, whether they are in Trust or not.
E. of Leicester to take the Covenant.
Whereas Thursday next was appointed for the Earl
of Leycester to come and take and subscribe the National Covenant: It is Ordered, That he shall have
further Time given him until this Day Fortnight.
Message from the H. C. with an Order.
A Message was brought from the House of Commons, by Mr. Greene and others;
To desire their Lordships Concurrence in an Order;
which was read, as followeth:
Order to impower the Committee, who are to meet with The States Ambassadors, to treat about Restitutions.
"It is this Day Ordered, by the Lords and Commons, That Power be given to the Committee of
Lords and Commons appointed to treat with The
States Ambassadors, to grant or deny Restitution of
the Ship Utricke, as they shall see Cause upon further Conference with the said Ambassadors."
Agreed to.
The Answer was:
Answer.
That this House agrees to this Order now brought
up.
E. of Thanet's Sequestration to be taken off, on paying a moderate Fine.
Upon reading the Petition of the Earl of Thanett;
shewing, "That his Estate being wholly sequestered by
the Parliament, and there is such a great Fine cessed
upon him for the taking off his Sequestration as his
Estate is no Way able to pay; therefore he humbly
desires that such a reasonable Fine may be set upon
him, which he may be able to pay without Ruin to
himself and his Family; and that his Sequestration
may be taken off."
Hereupon this House Ordered, To send a Message to the House of Commons, and communicate the
said Petition to them, with their Lordships Sense, "That,
since his Lordship came in upon Invitation of the Declaration of both Kingdoms, such a moderate Fine
may be set upon him, as may not ruin his Estate and
Posterity; and that they will take into Consideration
the taking off his Sequestration, without which,
their Lordships conceive, he cannot be enabled to
raise any Monies."
Message to the H. C. about it;
A Message was sent to the House of Commons, by
Mr. Page and Dr. Heath:
To deliver the Petition of the Earl of Thanett, with
their Lordships Sense.
and that Two Lords are added to the Committee to treat with The States Ambassadors.
2. To let them know, that their Lordships have added
Two Lords to the Committee that treat with The States
Ambassadors, concerning their Demands of restoring
Ships belonging to The States and their Merchants,
taken by the English Ships.
Tryon's Cause.
Ordered, That Mr. Tryon's Cause shall be heard
on Saturday Morning next, by Counsel on both Sides.
