Darwent Navigation.
A BILL for making navigable the River Darwent, in
the County of Derby, was read the First time.
Resolved, That the Bill be read a Second time.
Ways and Means.
Sir Thomas Littleton reported, from the Committee of
the whole House, to whom it was referred to consider of
Ways and Means for raising the Supply to be granted to
his Majesty, for carrying on the War against France, the
Resolutions of the said Committee; which they had directed him to report to the House; and which he read
in his Place; and afterwards delivered in at the Clerk's
Table: Where the same were read; and are as follow;
viz.
Resolved, That it is the Opinion of this Committee,
That, towards the Supply to be granted to his Majesty,
for carrying on the War against France, the Time for
Persons to come in, and purchase the Annuities mentioned
in an Act, intituled, An Act for enabling such Persons as
have Estates for Life, in Annuities, payable by several
former Acts, therein mentioned, to purchase and obtain
further, or more certain, Interests in such Annuities; and,
in Default thereof, for admitting other Persons to purchase or obtain the same; for raising Monies for carrying
on the War against France; be enlarged.
Resolved, That it is the Opinion of this Committee,
That, towards the Supply to be granted to his Majesty,
for carrying on the War against France, the Duties granted
by an Act, intituled, An Act for the encouraging the
Distilling of Brandy and Spirits from Corn; and for laying several Duties on low Wines, or Spirits, of the first
Extraction; be continued to be collected, levied, and paid,
for the Term of Three Months after the Expiration of
the said Act.
The said Resolutions, being severally read a Second
time, were, upon the Question severally put thereupon,
agreed unto by the House.
Ordered, That a Bill, or Bills, be brought in upon the
said Resolutions: And that Mr. Attorney-General, Mr.
Solicitor-General, and Mr. Serjeant Bond, do prepare,
and bring in, the same.
Supply.
Resolved, That this House will, upon Saturday Morning next, resolve itself into a Committee of the whole
House, to consider further of the Supply to be granted
to his Majesty, for carrying on the War against France.
Elections: Double Returns.
An ingrossed Bill to prevent false and double Returns
was read the Third time.
An Amendment being proposed to be made, Press 2d,
L. last, after "Commons," to insert "or give any Certificate of any Person not returned;"
The same was, upon the Question put thereupon,
agreed unto by the House; and the Bill amended at the
Table accordingly.
Resolved, That the Bill do pass: And that the Title be,
An Act to prevent false and double Returns of Members
to serve in Parliament.
Ordered, That Mr. Clark do carry the Bill to the Lords,
and desire their Concurrence thereunto.
Hawkers and Pedlars.
A Bill for Suppressing of Hawkers and Pedlars was
read a Second time.
Resolved, That the Bill be committed to Sir Richard

Ordered, That Leave be given to bring in a Bill for
the Encouragement of Privateers: And that Admiral
Russell and Sir Eliab Harcey do prepare, and bring in,
the Bill.
State of the Nation.
The House, according to the Order of the Day resolved itself into a Committee of the whole House, to
consider further of the State of the Nation; and to consider of Ways and Means for raising the Twelve hundred
thousand Pounds, for Supply of the Deficiency of the
clipped Money.
Mr. Speaker left the Chair.
Colonel Granville took the Chair of the Committee.
Mr. Speaker resumed the Chair.
Colonel Granville reported from the said Committee,
That they had come to several Resolutions; which they
had directed him to report, when the House will please
to receive the same.
Ordered, That the said Report be made To-morrow
Morning.
Colonel Granville also acquainted the House, That he
was directed by the said Committee to move, That they
may have Leave to sit again.
Resolved, That this House will, upon Monday Morning next, resolve itself into a Committee of the whole
House, to consider further of the State of the Nation.
