Prayers.

Highway Laws.

THE House took into Consideration the Amendment, made by the Lords, to the Bill, intituled, An Act for the better amending and repairing the Highways; and Explanation of the Laws relating thereunto:

And the said Amendment was twice read; and, upon the Question put thereupon, agreed unto by the House; and is as followeth; viz.

Press 2. L. 42. for "his," read "the."

Ordered, That Sir Henry Hobart do carry the Bill to the Lords, and acquaint them, That this House hath agreed to the said Amendment.

Greenland Trade.

Ordered, That the Committee appointed to prepare Reasons for a Conference with the Lords, touching the Greenland Bill, do withdraw, and sit during the Sitting of the House.

Charitable Gifts.

Ordered, That the Committee to whom the Bill for the Encouragement of charitable Gifts and Dispositions . . . . . do withdraw, and sit during the Sitting of the House.

Privilege of a Membr in a Suit.

A Petition of the Lord Francis Pawlet was presented to the House:

And the same relating to Sir Nathaniel Nappier, a Member of this House;

And he not being in the House;

Ordered, That Sir Nathaniel Nappier do attend, in his Place, To-morrow Morning: And that the said Petition be then read.

Irish Arears.

Ordered, That the Report from the Committee, to whom the Petition of Nathaniell Hill, and others, was referred, be made To-morrow Morning.

Supply Bill; Salt Duties and Land Bank.

An ingrossed Bill, for continuing to his Majesty certain Rates and Duties upon Salt, for carrying on the War against France; and for taking off the Duties of Tonage upon Ships, and upon Coals; and for establishing a National Land-Bank; was read the Third time.

An ingrossed Clause was offered, as a Rider, with Blanks, about wrought Plate brought to the Mint:

And the same was twice read; and the Blanks filled up:

And then the Clause was read the Third time; and, upon the Question put thereupon, agreed unto by the House to be made Part of the Bill.

Another ingrossed Clause was offered, as a Rider, with Blanks, That the Lord Mayor and Aldermen of London, and the respective Justices of Peace throughout the Kingdom, shall, from time to time, settle the Price of Salt:

And the same was twice read; and the Blanks filled up:

And then the Clause was read the Third time; and, upon the Question put thereupon, agreed unto by the House to be made Part of the Bill.

Another ingrossed Clause was offered, as a Rider, That * * * *

And the same was once read:

And the Question being put, That the Clause be read a Second time;

It passed in the Negative.

Another ingrossed Clause was offered, as a Rider, That, if any Person shall have Judgment for any Debt against the Corporation, the Officers of the Exchequer shall pay the same, upon producing an Execution:

And the same was twice read; and amended; and then read the Third time; and, upon the Question put thereupon, agreed unto by the House to be made Part of the Bill.

Another ingrossed Clause was offered, as a Rider, That Letters Pateuts for erecting the Bank shall issue by a time:

And the Question being put, That the same be received;

It passed in the Negative.

An Amendment was proposed to be made in the Bill; viz. That the Clause for naturalizing Subscribers to the Bank, at the End of the Bill, be taken out of the Bill:

And several former Precedents were cited, and produced and read, for taking out a whole Clause out of an ingrossed Bill:

And the Question being put, That the said Clause do stand Part of the said Bill;

The House divided.

Resolved, That the Bill do pass: And that the Title be, An Act for continuing to his Majesty certain Duties upon Salt, Glass Wares, Stone and Earthen Wares; and for granting several Duties upon Tobacco-pipes, and other Earthen Wares; for carrying on the War against France; and for establishing a National Land Bank; and for taking off the Duties upon Tonage of Ships, and upon Coals.

Ordered, That Sir Thomas Littleton do carry the Bill to the Lords, and desire their Concurrence thereunto.

Committees.

Ordered, That all Committees be adjourned.

And then the House adjourned till To-morrow Morning, Nine a Clock.
