Prayers.

Ship Maryland Merchant.

AN ingrossed Bill for giving Leave to the Ship Maryland Merchant to import her lading into this Kingdom was read the Third time.

And an Amendment was proposed to be made to the Bill, to insert "Lading or" before "Importation."

And the same was, upon the Question put thereupon, agreed unto by the House; and the Bill amended at the Table accordingly.

Resolved, That the Bill do pass: And that the Title be, An Act for giving Leave to the Ship Maryland Merchant, of Bristoll, to arrive, and import her Lading into this Kingdom.

Ordered, That Mr. Yates do carry the Bill to the Lords, and desire their Concurrence thereunto.

Walrond's Estate.

An ingrossed Bill from the Lords, intituled, An Act to enable Humphrey Walrond Gentleman, to sell Part of his Estate, for the making Provision for his eldest Son, and Elizabeth his Daughter, who are Lunaticks, and Payment of his Debts; and raising Portions for his younger Children; was read the First time.

Resolved, That the Bill be read a Second time upon Wednesday Morning next.

Privilege— Handford's Petition.

A Petition of John Handford was presented to the House:

And the same relating to the Lord Cornbury, who not being in the House;

Ordered, That the Lord Cornbury do attend, in his Place, upon Wednesday Morning next: And that the Petition be then read.

Estates given to superstitious Uses.

A Bill to vest Estates given to superstitious Uses in Greenwich Hospital for the Maintenance of Seamen, and other charitable Uses, was, according to Order, read the First time.

Resolved, That the Bill be read a Second time upon Wednesday Morning next.

Army Arrears.

A Petition of Major Christopher Wray, of Colonel Farrington's Regiment of Foot, lately disbanded, was presented to the House, and read; setting forth, That Mr. Peter Bernard, Agent for the said Regiment, hath long since received the Subsistence of the said Regiment, from 1st of July 1697, to 12 of March last; yet refuseth to account, or pay the Petitioner: And praying Relief.

Ordered, That the Lord Ranelagh do examine the Matter, and give the House an Account thereof.

Customs Regulation.

A Bill for the establishing further Rules, Orders, and Directions, for the regulating and better managing his Majesty's Customs, was, according to Order, read the First time.

Resolved, That the Bill be read a Second time upon this Day Sevennight, in a full House.

Privilege— Earl of Macclesfeild's Petition.

A Petition of Charles Earl of Macclesfeild was presented to the House.

And the same relating to Sir William Brownlow; who not being in the House.

Ordered, That Sir William Brownlow do attend the House, in his Place, upon Tuesday Morning next: And that the Petition be then read.

East-India Trade.

A Petition of the Bailiffs, Wardens, Assistants, and Commonalty of the Occupation, Art, and Mystery, of Weavers, in the City of London, was presented to the House, and read; setting forth, That there being a Bill now depending before this Honourable House, for Establishing an East-India Trade, which, without some Restrictions to their Trading in the Silk Manufactures of that Country, will be destructive to the Silk Manufactures of this Kingdom: And praying, in the settling the said Trade, some Regard may be had to the English Manufactures.

Ordered, That the said Petition do lie upon the Table until the said Bill be read a Second time.

East-India Trade.

A Petition of the Wardens and Assistants of the Company of the Worsted-weavers of the City of Norwich, in the County of Norfolk, was presented to the House, and read; setting forth, That, by the Bill depending in this Honourable House, to establish an East-India Trade, great Quantities of Goods manufactured will be brought into these Kingdoms, to the Prejudice of the Nation in general, and in abating the Price of Lands depending upon the Growth of Wool, and to the Ruin of many Thousand Families whose Subsistence depends wholly upon the said Manufacture: And praying a Prohibition to the bringing in of Goods ready manufactured.

Ordered, That the said Petition do lie upon the Table until the said Bill be read a Second time.

Supply Bill; Building Ships.

An ingrossed Bill for applying to the Use of his Majesty's Navy and Ordnance, the Overplus of the Money and Stores, which were provided for the building Sevenand-twenty Ships of War, was read the Third time.

Resolved, That the Bill do pass: And that the Title be, An Act for applying to the Use of his Majesty's Navy and Ordnance, the Overplus of the Money and Stores, which were provided for the building Seven-and-twenty Ships of War.

Ordered, That Sir Tho. Littleton do carry the Bill to the Lords, and desire their Concurrence thereunto.

Timber in New Forest.

Resolved, That this House will, upon Tuesday Morning next, take into Consideration the Amendments, made by the Lords, to the Bill, intituled, An Act for the Increase and Preservation of Timber in the New Forest, in the County of Southampton.

Supply Bill; Tonage and Poundage.

An ingrossed Bill for granting to his Majesty a further Subsidy of Tonage and Poundage, towards raising the yearly Sum of 700,000l. for the Service of his Majesty's Houshold, and other Uses therein mentioned, during his Majesty's Life, was read the Third time.

Resolved, That the Bill do pass: And that the Title be, An Act for granting to his Majesty a further Subsidy of Tonage and Poundage, towards raising the yearly Sum of 700,000l. for the Service of his Majesty's Houshold, and other Uses therein mentioned, during his Majesty's Life.

Ordered, That Sir Thomas Littleton do carry the Bill to the Lords, and desire their Concurrence thereunto.

Proposal of East-India Company.

A Proposal, agreed on at a General Court of Adventurers in the General joint Stock to the East-Indies, holden the 10th Day of June One thousand Six hundred and Ninety-eight, was presented to the House, and read; and is as followeth; viz.

At a General Court of Adventurers in the General joint Stock to the East-Indies, holden the 10th of June 1698:

It is agreed, humbly to propose . . the Honourable House of Commons;

That, in order to supply the Government, the Company's Stock being 1,574,608l. 10s. 6d. they are willing to submit to a Valuation of 50 per Cent.; viz. 20 per Cent. for their dead Stock; and that they will guarantee their quick Stock at 30 per Cent. more; reserving the Overplus to themselves:

That the Company will open their Books for new Subscriptions, to make up the said present Stock, so reduced to 787,304l. 5s. 3d. not exceeding Two Millions; and that this Company will raise, for the Service of the Government, so much Money, upon the whole, as the Fund of 8 per Cent. shall amount unto, not exceeding Two Millions; provided they be settled by Act of Parliament, exclusive of all others, with such Powers and Privileges as will enable them to carry on the Trade.

Supply Bill; raising Annuities. [New E. I. Co. incorporated.]

Then a Motion being made, and the Question being put, That the Bill for raising a Sum, not exceeding Two Millions, by settling a perpetual Fund for Payment of certain Annuities, after the Rate of 8l. per Annum for every Hundred Pounds, and by further Advantages therein mentioned, redeemable by Parliament, be now read the Second time:

Ordered, That the Consideration of the Petitions of the Companies of Weavers of London and Norwich, be referred to the said Committee.

Walter's Will.

The Lords have agreed to the Bill, intituled, An Act for securing the Portions intended by Sir William Walter Baronet, deceased, for his Children by the Lady Mary Walter his Second Wife; and for preventing all Doubts which might arise upon the Construction of the Articles and Will therein mentioned; without any Amendment. Also,

Newcastle Waterworks

The Lords have agreed to the Bill, intituled, An Act for the better supplying the Town of Newcastle upon Tyne with fresh Water, without any Amendment. Also,

Cecil's Estate.

The Lords have passed a Bill, intituled, An Act for vesting certain Lands and Hereditaments in Maidstone, and elsewhere in the County of Kent, in Trustees, for the Benefit of Diana Cecil, and her Heirs: To which they desire the Concurrence of this House. Also,

African Trade.

The Lords have agreed to the Bill, intituled, An Act to settle the Trade to Africa, with some Amendments: To which they desire the Concurrence of this House.

And then the Messengers withdrew.

Adjournment.

A Motion being made, and the Question being put, That the House do adjourn till Monday Morning, Nine a Clock.
