PRAYERS.

Leicester Forces.

AN Ordinance for putting the County of Leicester into a Posture of Defence, by settling a Committee of the Militia there; and for raising and maintaining of Forces, for the Defence of the said County; was this Day read the First and Second time; and, upon Question, committed unto --

Committee of both Kingdoms.

Ordered, That the Committee of both Kingdoms shall have the same Allowance for Intelligence, and other incident Charges, as formerly they had, out of the Committee for the King's Revenue: And that Crispe and Newman, Messengers to my Lord General's Army, be recommended unto that Committee, to take some Consideration of them, to be employed, and received into Pay, as formerly.--

Leicestershire Committee.

Lord Grey, Mr. Ashe, Sir Arth. Hesilrig, Sir Martin Lister, Sir Rob. Pye, Colonel Long, Sir Wm. Alanson, Sir Ben. Rudyerd, Mr. Cage, Sir Dud. North, Mr. Bond, Mr. Rous, * Hallowes, Sir Hen. Cholmeley, Mr. Hoyle, Mr. Lisle, Sir Peter Wentworth, Mr. Holland, Mr. Strode, Sir Wm. Massam, Mr. Knightley, Mr. Pury, Sir Tho. Barrington, Sir Jo. Curson, Mr. Blakeston, Mr. Hodges, Sir Edw. Hungerford, Mr. Tate, Sir Tho. Cheeke, Sir F. Popham, and the Committee appointed to examine the Business concerning Sir Edw. Hartopp, and Leicestershire: And are to meet this Afternoon, at Two of Clock, in the Exchequer Chamber: And have Power to send for Parties, Witnesses, Papers, Records, &c.

Resolved, &c. That the Lord Grey of Groby, and Sir Arth. Hesilrigg, shall be nominated as Committees in this Ordinance for Leicestershire.

The rest of the Gentlemen nominated in the said Ordinance for Committees, were put to the Question; and assented unto.

Ordered, That no Monies, or Horses, in the County of Leicester, shall be taxed, assessed, or levied, but by the Order of the Committee there; And that the Soldiery shall not tax, assess, or levy, any Monies or Horses, but by the Order of the Committee.

Payment to Hesilrigg.

Ordered, That the Hundred and Fifty Pounds, or thereabouts, payable from Mr. Thorowgood, Mrs. Cotton, and Wm. Mascall, and other Tenants in Horne Church, Writtle, and Longdowne Hill, in Essex, to New College in Oxon, be paid to the Committee for Sir Wm. Waller, at Grocers Hall, London; and thence issued out to Sir Arthur Hesilrigg, upon Account, to disengage Part of the Engagements incurred by Sir Arth. Hesilrigg, for the publick Service of the Commonwealth: And the Acquittance of any Two of the said Committee to be a Discharge to the said Persons; and they to be saved harmless against the said College.

Ship stranded.

Ordered, That Maurice Thompson, and Company of English Merchants, grieved, may proceed, for their Redress, in the Court of Admiralty, according to the ordinary Course of that Court, against the Duynkirke Ship stranded near Shoreham, and such of the Goods as are not already claimed by the Spanish Ambassador, or any other of the King of Spain's Subjects.

Colonel Kinge.

The humble Petition of the Inhabitants of the County of Lincolne, desiring Colonel Edward Kinge to be restored to the Government of the County, under the Earl of Manchester, was this Day read.

And the Gentlemen that preferred it were called in; and did avow the Petition: And

It is Ordered, That this Petition be referred to the Earl of Manchester: And that the Gentlemen of Lincolneshire, that are Members of this House, and Sir F. Popham, do write a Letter to the Earl of Manchester, to acquaint him, that the said Petition is referred, from this House, unto his Lordship's Consideration.

Duke of Lorraine.

A Message from the Lords, by Sir Edw. Leeche and Dr. Aylett;

The Lords have sent down an Order for the Duke of Lorraine's: In which the Lords desire the Concurrence of this House.

Answer returned by the same Messengers; that this House has considered their Lordships Message; and will send Answer by Messengers of their own.

Earl of Dorsett's Creditors, &c.

A Message from the Lords, by Sir Rob. Riche and Mr. Page;

The Lords received, To-day, this Note by the Earl of Pembroke; it is concerning Two thousand Five hundred Pounds to be paid to the Creditors of Rich. Earl of Dorsett, which is not yet paid over, but in the Hands of Alderman Gurney: It is conceived, that some of the Creditors are Delinquents: And therefore do desire it may come to the State; and referred to the Committee for Poole, Lyme, and Plymouth: And so much as shall appear payable to Delinquents may, by that Committee, . . . disposed of for the Relief of Poole, Lyme, and Plymouth.

Resolved, &c. That this House doth concurr with the Lords, in referring the getting in of the said Two thousand Five hundred Pounds, and the Disposal of it, to the Committee of Lords and Commons for the Safety of Poole, Lyme, and Plymouth.

Answer returned by the same Messengers; That this House has considered their Lordships Message; and do agree to refer the getting in of the Two thousand Five hundred Pounds, and the Disposal of it, to the Committee of Lords and Commons for Plymouth, Poole, and Lyme, as is desired.

States Ambassadors.

Ordered, That it be referred to the Committee of both Kingdoms, to send some Narrative of what passed between the States Ambassadors and the Parliament here, to the States Provincial, or others.

Military Affairs.

A Letter from the Earl of Denbigh, of 23d of May, from Stafford, relating the Motions of Prince Rupert's Forces, and desiring a Supply of Money, Arms, and Ammunition; and likewise a Letter from the Lord Fairefaxe, of the One-and-twentieth of May, from the Leaguer before Yorke, relating the Taking of Cawood Castle by his Forces, upon Surrender, and desiring a Supply of Money, Arms, and Ammunition; were this Day read.

Berkeley's Bond.

Whereas Sir Rob. Berkeley is indebted to the Western Committee in Two thousand Pounds, upon Bond, taken in Mr. Speaker's Name: Upon the Credit of which Debt by the said Bond, they are to borrow Five hundred Pounds: It is Ordered, That the Committee for the West shall have Power to change the Bond, and to give Security, out of the said Two thousand Pounds, for a lesser Sum: And the said Sir Robert Berkley, and the same Sureties, are to enter into new Bonds; the one of One thousand Five hundred Pounds, unto Mr. Speaker, to be paid at the Time limited in the former Bond; and the other in Five hundred Pounds, to be bound unto . . Person as the Western Committee shall appoint; to be paid at the same Time: And, upon entering of this Security, the former Bond of Two thousand Pounds to be yielded up.

Northern Counties.

Sir H. Vane sen. Mr. Blakiston, Sir Hen. Vane jun. Mr. Ashherst, Mr. Hoyle, Sir Wm. Allanson, Sir Wm. Strickland, or any Two of them, are appointed to meet this Afternoon, to consider of some Way of raising Monies and providing Arms and Ammunition for the Four Northern Counties of Northumberland, Cumberland, Westmoreland, and County Palatine of Durham.

Affairs at Lyme.

Two Letters from Lyme, one of the Sixteenth, the other of the Two-and-twentieth, were this Day read; relating the State and Condition of that Town, and the whole Proceedings of the Enemy against that Town.

Ordered, That Sir Walt. Erle, Mr. Rose, and Mr. Browne, be added to the Committee for Lyme, Poole, and Plymouth: And that the Care of Lyme and Poole be, at present, recommended unto this Committee: And the Consideration of the Five hundred Pounds, for the Garison of Lyme; and Two hundred Pounds, drawn by Bills upon Mr. Rose, is referred to this Committee.

Ordinances to be read.

Ordered, That the Ordinance for the Seven associated Counties; and the Ordinance for Shropshire; be read To-morrow Morning.

Navy.

Ordered, That the Ships that have furnished the Town of Lyme with their Victuals and Ammunition, shall be re-victualled and re-ammunitioned: And that the Charge of re-victualling and re-ammunitioning of them shall be discharged and defrayed out of the Monies that shall arise upon the Half per Cent. after that the Engagements already upon the Half per Cent. shall be satisfied.

Ordered, That Mr. Green do, To-morrow Morning, peremptorily at Nine of Clock, make Report of the State of the Navy.

Letters referred.

Ordered, That the Letter from . . . Committee at Knoll, of the Two-and-twentieth of May, be referred to the Committee for those that come in upon the Declaration, where Mr. Pelham has the Chair: Which is joined to the Committee at Goldsmiths Hall, as to this Purpose.

Ordered, That the Letter of May 23, from Lewes, be referred to the Committee of both Kingdoms.

Major Welden.

Ordered, That the Letter and Articles from the Committee in Kent, concerning Major Welden, be referred to the Committee where Mr. Tate has the Chair.

Raising Money, &c.

Sir Thomas Soames, Mr. John Ashe, Mr. Recorder, Mr. Edward Ashe, Sir Robert Pye, Sir John Trecor, Mr. Pury, Mr. Jenner, Mr. Spurstoe, Mr. Beddingfeild, Mr. Blakiston, Mr. Hoyle, Mr. Long, Sir Wm. Allanson, Mr. Millington, Sir John Curson;

This Committee, or any Four of them, is to consider of all Ways and Means for raising of Monies, either by particular Securities of Companies, or other particular Persons beyond Seas, or by mortgaging of any Lands, or by putting to Sale sequestered Lands; and, from time to time, to make Report to the House of their Proceedings: And have Power to send for Parties, Witnesses, Papers, Records, &c.: And are to meet this Afternoon, in the Exchequer Chamber; and likewise to consider how Arms, and other Things mentioned in my Lord Fairfax and Lord Denbighe's Letters, may be forthwith provided.
