07/04/1386	Cambridge (Cambridgeshire)	Declaration - on information that chandlers and hostlers selling candles and fuel in Cambridge deny the jurisdiction of the chancellor of the university and his vice-regent, because in the charter recently granted in parliament empowering the latter to try and punish forestallers and regraters therein, candles and fuel are not specifically named - that they are comprehended under the term victuals and the sellers thereof subject to the jurisdiction as victuallers. 02/06/1386	Faversham (Kent)	Order to the mayor, bailiffs, collectors of customs and searcher of forfeitures in Faversham to dearrest and deliver to John Clayson of Tolne in Seeland a ship of Tolne, its load of salt, and the money he should have received for the sale thereof, as John brought the salt from Bayonne to sell at Faversham, and sold a great part of it to various people, but although after his entry into the port the searcher entered his ship straightaway, and although he bargained with John concerning the salt, he arrested salt and money, as he could not get it at his will, claiming that John had exposed the salt for sale before the ship had been searched. 28/04/1386	London	Order to the collectors of customs in the port of London to allow Nicholas Stevene, merchant of Porto, to put 13 fardels of woollen cloth of Valenciens containing 140 pieces into ships and to take them to Portugal without payment of customs or subsidies, as he lately loaded the said cloth at Middelburgh into a boat and brought it to London, in order to load it into a sounder vessel there to be taken to Portugal, and the collectors want to charge customs as if it had been offered for sale, which it was not. 23/08/1386	London Exeter (Devon) Sandwich (Kent)	Order to the collectors of customs in the ports of London and Sandwich to allow Lawrence Desuze, merchant of Portugal, to load 5 lasts of hides into a ship and take them to Middelburg, as he paid customs for them in Exeter and brought them to London in English ships, which however did not dare sail to Middelburg out of fear of the king's enemies. 11/01/1386	London King's Lynn (Norfolk)	Order to the mayor and bailiffs of King's Lynn to dearrest John de Gisorf, merchant of Genoa, and his herring, as he bought 50 lasts of herring at Skania and loaded them in a ship to take them to Middelburg or London, and when touching at King's Lynn to wait for a fair wind, he and his ship were arrested on the accusation of being the king's enemies. 07/11/1386	London Sandwich (Kent)	Order to the collectors of customs and searcher in London to deliver to Richard Bere, master of a ship of Sandwich, his ship and its gear, as certain merchants of Lombardy and Genoa loaded a ship of Genoa with divers merchandise to be brought to London, and on the voyage the ship touched at the "Dounes" off Sandwich and for greater safety, because their ship was too heavily loaded, the merchants hired the said ship of Sandwich to aid in bringing the goods to London, and when they got there, the ships were arrested by the searcher, because some of the merchandise was carelessly exposed for sale before they had sufficient warrant. 12/12/1386	London Sandwich (Kent) Shoebury (Essex)	Commission to enquire on complaint by Peter Mark, merchant of Florence, and Gerard Lomelyn, merchant of Genoa, that when the one had placed 16 bales of pepper and the other 6 bales of pepper and one of cinnabar in a ship of London at Sandwich to be taken to London, the ship was stranded on the eve of All Saints last at Shoebury and the cargo cast ashore and carried off as wreck by local men, although all the crew escaped to shore. 12/10/1386	Lostwithiel (Cornwall) Plymouth (Devon) London	Order to the collectors of customs in the port of London to allow Walter Hikedoun, merchant of Lostwithiel, to take 5 lasts, 32 dakers and and four hides to Middelburg, without a second payment of customs and subsidies, as he loaded the said hides in ships at Plymouth and there paid the customs and subsidies due, and on their voyage to Middelburg the ships touched at London for fear of enemies, and the collectors are distraining him for a second payment of customs, because he unloaded the hides to put them in stronger ships for safer passage. Presentment that the king granted to John Dod of Aylesbury letters patent for raising 1/2d. from each loaded cart and 1/4d. from each horse carrying merchandise for making and repairing a road called Walton Street, between Walton and Aylesbury, and that he should himself make and repair that road with that money [pavage]; and from Easter 1388 to Easter 1389 John took maney to a total of 10 marks from Robert Manfret, Robert Banet, John Hewes and others coming there with merchandise by that road. 07/07/1389	London Northamptonshire	Order to the mayor and aldermen of London to proceed ina plea pending before them at suit of Stephen Brunne, citizen and pepperer of London, upon a bill for delivery of a bond, regardless of the king's writ of supersedeas, as John Beaufront, citizen and woolmonger of London, and William de Lubbenham, merchant of Northamptonshire, impleaded Stephen before the justices of the bench for a debt of £400. from a bond payable at Easter 1375, and that Stephen, trying to defraud them of the debt, under the name of Stephen Brunne, citizen and grocer of London, administrator of William Berkham, citizen and grocer of London, died intestate, sued a bill in the Guildhall of London against John, claiming that by an indenture of 4/10/1375 John agreed to give up his claim to the above debt, if the intestate delivered to him cloth worth £200., John paying £40. on delivery, and that the intestate delivered cloths to the above value at Winchester, a market town, on 5/11/1375, but John did not give up the bond to the intestate in his lifetime, so the suit lies with his administrator; and the king decreed that the suit for debt in his court should be settled first, and John and William failed to appear, so the plea against them can now proceed.
