my testament and last wille, etc. To be bered in the cherche yarde of
all hallows of ffosdyke with my mortuary due as the custume is ther.
To the high auter of the said cherche for forgotten tithes and offeringes
xijd. To our Lades awter ther iiijd. To Seynt nycholas awter ther iiijd.
To our Lades gylde of ffosdyke iijs. iiijd. To the holly rode gylde of
bostone iijs. iiijd., so that the porters do ther duttes at my beryng or

of Lyncolne iiijd. Morover I will that viijd. be takyne yerly of and uppone
my grene callyd Boysto' Grene by the cherche grevys of ffosdyke for
to fynd and kepe ther with a candell of a ponde wax to be made twyse
in the yere for to be lightyd and burne before our lady of Pite in the
cherche of ffosdyke at the highe messe every hallyday for evermore. I

to them at the feste of the nativite of Saynte John of Baptiste next

This is the last will of me John Randall of Whaplod, made last day
of March, 1514. I will that my feoffees beyng infeoffed to myne use
in all my landes lying in Whaplod and Holbech, delyver astate of any
parcell thereof when ever thei shalbe required to the performacion of
my last will by the advyse of myne executors and supervisor. I will
that Ele Baston my moder have my place wich she dwellys in, and all
my londys and pasture about it from the pastur of John Cortans towardes
the north unto the landes of Nicholas Purley, gentleman, on the south,
and iiij acre at auereys dore callyd parsons ij acre, betwyxt maister
purley and auyeres, and xiij acre pasture in ferther obligate, to have
and to hold to hyr and hyr assignes the terme of hyr lyff, and aftyr her
decease to be sold by my executors, and the money to be disposyd as

my lands and tenements in North Somercotes for the term of three years
after my decease. To John my son one blue (blodiam) tunic called a
'Jakytt,' and one shirt. Also I will that all the debts that he owes to
me and my wife shall be forgiven him. I will that my wife shall pay
to Robert Bell for John my son vjs. viijd. To William and Thomas
my sons, each of them one tunic, one shirt, and vjs. viijd. To Joan,
wife of my son John, 'a bond lyne.' The residue of my goods I bequeath

I will that my wife have my messuage with its appurtenances as it lies
in the town and in the fields of lunderthorpe and thowthorpe for the term
of her life to pay therefrom yearly in expenses for an obit for the health
of my soul and for the souls of my parents iijs. And I will that a priest
shall celebrate for one whole year with two trentals for me and my benefactors. The rest of my goods I bequeath to Alice my wife, Thomas
Weston and John Dale, my executors, to dispose for the health of my

To the chapter (capit'lo (fn. 4) ) of the gild of St. Mary of Multon xjs., that
he may every day within the thirtieth day say one mass of the trental
of St. Gregory with placebo and direge. And after the mass every day
for xxx days shall say at my grave for my soul and the souls off all the
faithful dead de profundis, with the prayer Inclina. And also upon every
feast day within xxx days for xiij poor people xiij pence. The residue of
my goods I bequeath to Emmota my wife, whom I make my executor,
to dispose for the health of my soul, etc. Witnesses, Sir Nicholas Norton,

This is the last will of me Johne Thorpe alias Henryson of Multon,
made the viij day of Janyuere, 1514. In the first I will that my dettes
be paide and restitution maide where it canne be lawfully provyd that
I have done any wrange. I will that Emmot my wyff have after my
decesse all my howsys, tenamentes, landes, rentes, medowes and pasturs,
both free and copyhold, excepte such as after assynyd, kepyng them with
sufficiant reparacion, to have and to hold to hyr and hyr assignes the
terme of hyr lyff yf she kepe hyr sole, and yff she mary I will assone as
she ys suer to a husband that Isabell baston my dougter or hyr herys
enter and have all the forsaid howses, etc., to have and to hold as after
shalbe expressed. I will that the said Emmot my wyff kype my yerday
yerly yf she have the said landes the terme of hyr lyff in the church of
multon with all the qwere as many as cume, and to offer for every soule
after rehersyd [folio 30d.], a messe peny, Johne thorpe, Isabell hys wyff,
Joh' thorpe, alen Henryson, Emot hys wyff, Joh' thorpe the younger,
Isabell baston, Sir John Palmer, and Robert thorpe; thes soulys I will
shalbe praid fore as ofte as I have any prest, and all my benefactorus.
I will that she gyff every gud fryday xiijd. to xiij poore folke; this to
be done the terme of hir lyff, and after I will the said charge go with my
hed place as after shalbe expressed. I will that Isabell Baston my dougter
have after the decesse of the said Emmott my wyff as is be fore said
all the assyignes howsys, landes, etc., to such hyr chyld be off xxiiij
yere of age. At wich yeres I will the chyld beyng of age reseve all such
landes as by the will shalbe assynyd to hym. I will that William Baston
the sone of John after the decese of Emmott my wyff when he cummys
to the age of xxiiij yere have my hed place in the churchgate with the
hows and lath lat sargayntes, with the pastur underneth it, both fre
and copy hold, and a pece of land lying at Henry Culliers sumtyme
Swampyges, iiij acr' latt helles callyd millers, and vij acr' late frydays,
with the rent off therto longyng [sic] to have and to hold to hym and
hys herys of hys body lawfully begotten of that condicion that he and
hys herys kepe my yerday for ever to the valor of vjs. viijd., and gyff
every gud fryday xiijd. as is beforesaid; and this yerely charge I will
have performyd and kepte for ever to whoys handes suever the said
landes shall cum as the will answer to god; and for defawt of yssew
of the said William, the said place with all the lands therto assyned to
remayn to hys next broder in tayll. I will that John Baston the sone
of John have as is before said j pasture late lomes, j pastur in the see
ynd late waryns, iij acr arr' late sargeant at claptongate, to him and
hys herys in tayll; and for defawt of yssew to remayn to hys next
broder in taill. I will that Jamys baston have at the tyme before
assynyd the hows wich I purchasyd of Simon Cullier with the pastur
over agayn wich I purchasyd of Ranold Derby, with a cote theron set,
and iiij acr' late hawkes lyinge at layntongate, to hym and to hys herys
of hys body; and for defawte of yssew to remayn to his nexte broder
or syster in taill as is beforesaid. I will that Emmot Baston have at
the tyme assygnyd the hows wich was lighows with [folio 31] all the land
that longes therto, iij acr' arr' at layntongate late hawkes, and iiij acr'
ther late porters, to hyr and hyr herys of hyr body; and for defawte
of yssew, to remayn to hyr eldes broder in taill. I will that all the
aforsaid howses, etc., remayn as to the herys that shalbe lawfully begotten
of the aforsaid Isabell my dougter in tyme cumyng as thois that before
are rehersyd, on to be another here. Provydyd alwey that when ever
it shall fortune all the aforsaid chylderne and ther herys to dye, then I
will that all the aforsaid howses, etc., remayn to the vicar of multon and
the churchmasters for that tyme beyng to have and to hold of the cheyff
lordes by due service and custom for the terme of xl yere, and with
the profyttes of the rentes and wod to fynd a prest in the said church
during the said xl yeres for my soule and the soulys before rehersyd;
and after the said yeres be fully endyd I will that all the aforsaid parcelles
be sold by the vicar and the churchwardyns by the vyse of iiij mene
of the most honest of the said parich, and the money to be exspended
in the said church of such an nowrmentes as then shalbe most necessarie
in the whurshipe of god and all sayntes. I will that Isabell baston have
after my decesse the hows wich she dwelles in, late my moders, and
the hows nexte it on the northe, late whrythtes, to have and to hold the
terme of hyr lyff, and after to remayn to on of hyr chylder at hyr assigment. And yff she assigne it not, I will it remayn to the next here
withe the landes before rehersyd. I will that the said Isabell have
after the decesse of Emmot my wyff the house late grangers, and the
pastur in the fen end late derbys, the terme of hyr lyff, and after to
remayn to one of hyr chylder at hyr assigment as ys aforesaid; also
iiij mylke kye and all my shipe except such as I have gyffn, reservyng
this yere the woull to my wyff; and I will the said Isabell have my yeres
in the marshys acordyng to my copys. Provyd' also that yf Emmott
my wyff and Isabell my doughter dye or the chylder cum to the age
assygned, then I will that Robert newdike have the rule of the chylder
and ther landes to the cume to the age assigned. I will that the prior
and convent of spaldyng have iiij acr' of freland late waryns, lying at
Clapton gate, and j acr' j rode at powys, to have and to hold to the
convent fide to them and ther successors for ever, yeilding therfore
[folio 31d.] yerely to me and my heres holdyng my hed hous in the churchgate of multon ijd. of rent. I will that Robert newdike have xxti shepe
and ever on of my godchilder a lame. I will that my wyff fynd a prest
for me in multon church ij yere. The residew of all my guddes, (excepte
my sheipe), and all such landes as here are not assigned, etc., I gyff

vjs. viijd. To our lady wark of Lincoln iiijd. To every hows of the
freers of lincoln vjd. To John my son. To Annys my doughter. To

pott. I will that William Cowper and John Walkar be my feoffors
of my hows and my landes and to kepe the possession of my feoffment
that I delyver them to the behooff of John my son and his herys of hys
body; and yf John my son die without issue the forsaid hows and landes
to remayn to on of my doughters, and she that hase the hows and landes
shall gyve the oder sister a reward acording to gud consciens. The

awter of the said church iiijd. To our lady of lincoln vjd. To sent
Katerines of Lincoln iiijd. To the torchys lyght xxd. To the church
wark of Wyberton vjs. viijd. I will that John my son have to acr'
land pastur callyd balys grene lieing in the south feld of Wiberton the
terme of hys lyve, and after his decesse I will that the said ij acr' of
land remayn to our ladys gyld of Wyberton; and morover I will that
the forsaid John and the said gyld fynd and kepe up my obyt ever more
paing for the obyt keping yerly ijs. I will that John my son have on
pece of land pasture callyd laurens gren conteyning v stong, lying in the
south feld of Wiberton the terme of hys lyve, and after his decesse I will
the said five stong of land remayn to saynt kateryns gild of Wiberton.
To John my sonn iij acr' of land pasture lying in the Roddes, callyd
Reding grene, to hym and his assignys in fee symple. To the said John
I give half an acr' of land with a mesuag' therupon bylded, sumtyme
Joh' hawardes, to hym and to hys assign in fee simple; and iij stong
of land arabill, callyd Donyngton land, to hym and to his assign in fee
simple; also all my movabill guddes. The residew of all my guddes
I put to the disposicion of Sir Robert Haward prest and John Haward
my son, whom I mak and ordyn myn executors, that thei may dispose
my guddes to the lawd of god, helthe of my soule and to the dischargyng

my executor to dispose for the health of my soul as he will answer before
