1. Petition of Captain William Ellesdon to the King, for reference to Lord Chancellor Clarendon to examine his services in furthering His Majesty's concealment and transportation after Worcester fight, because having petitioned for a pension from the customs of Lyme, co. Dorset, for his services and hazard, it is said on false information, which sticks like daggers in his heart, that he did not faithfully perform the office commanded. With reference thereon to the Lord Chancellor, and his report, Feb. 17, that the petitioner served with fidelity in the late wars, and that Col. Fras. Wyndham says that he honestly endeavoured to procure a vessel for His Majesty's transportation after the battle of Worcester; that the shipmaster with whom he contracted failed, but he was not in the least degree guilty, and should have some bounty.

8. i. John Dixon to Hugh Tickell. He is to send in his month's collection both for London and the country. Another is ordered for the service of God's truth this month, to be given in at the monthly meeting at Thos. Porter's, Quartell Hill.
8. ii. Examination of John Dixon, of Waterend, Lowswater. Acknowledges his letter to Hugh Tickell; they hold monthly meetings to know what poor of their opinions stand in need of relief, in prison and elsewhere. The collection for London named is for relief of friends in Barbadoes and elsewhere, who go to deliver the truth as moved by God's spirit; that for the service of God's truth is for the same purpose. The meetings are of eight or ten persons, of Cumberland. Knows not the amount of the London collection, but received for the country 40s., and paid it to the poor, and to prisoners. 8. iii. Examination of Hugh Tickell, a Quaker, to the same effect. The collections at the monthly meetings amount to about 12s. for London, and 8s. for the country.

Gave a warrant for apprehending a villain lurking about court contrary to proclamation, but application was at once made to Mr. Jegon, a brother magistrate, who discharged him on bail. Prays that the bench may be either all knaves and fools, or all loyal and diligent. Without speedy course, proclamations will soon signify little.

Sec. Nicholas to Sir William Armorer. Rob. Rapley, a pernicious and infamous person, has obtained a warrant by sinister practices for taking fowl and preserving game in some parts of Berkshire, under colour of which he infests and distates the country thereabouts. The King wishes him to summon Rapley and cancel the warrant, and in case of refusal or delay, to deal with him as his lawless practices have deserved. [Ent. Book 1, p. 42.]
