Appointment of James Jordan, merchant, to be treasurer,
receiver and collector of all the revenues in Jamaica, to hold

Sir Kenelm Digby, Sir John Wintour, Sir Robert Long and
Thomas Povey to Auditor Hill or his deputy. Whereas several
receivers general are appointed for the counties wherein her
Majesty has any revenue, who are to attend you with certificates
of their having given security to her, we desire you to make out
immediately several copies for the respective receipts and
receivers belonging to her within your circuit and to give to each
receiver a copy thereof as soon as he shall bring you a certificate
that he has put in his security at this Board, whereby they may
be prepared to attend with you in all the counties where your next
audit shall be held and to receive all the rents payable last
Michaelmas or next Lady Day and to rectify omissions or inconveniences occasioned by the late times of disorder or otherwise.
We also require you that, when precepts issue for the next audit,
public notice be given to all bailiffs and collectors in your circuits
to attend your audit and pay what they have received, for
which they shall have particular directions from us, and we
likewise desire that a duplicate of every receiver's charge be sent

The Duke of Albemarle, Robert Scawen and William Prynne
to the Receiver General of Cheshire. We are certified by the
Treasurer at War that there is an arrear of 1,501l. 2s. 4d. due from
Cheshire, viz., 1,432l. 17s. 8d. of the twelve months' assessment and
68l. 4s. 8d. of the three months' assessment, of which sum it does
not appear to us that more than 460l. was taken up by Sir George
Booth's forces, and hoping that the Commissioners have in
pursuance of our letter of 26 Jan. last caused the remainder
of the money to be paid you by this time, we desire you without
further delay to pay the same to Arthur Walley, Mayor of
Chester, appointed to dispose thereof towards paying off the
forces of the Isle of Man. We hope you will not fail to pay as
desired, lest your future remissness bring an inconvenience on

Circular letter from the Earl of Southampton, Lord Treasurer,
to the Judges. Whereas by an Act of Parliament the accounts
of all treasurers, receivers and others for any money by them
received since 30 Jan., 1642[–3], are to be accountable to his
Majesty, desiring them, for the better knowledge of such persons,
to give order to the clerk of the assizes for their respective circuits
that they in each county inquire and take names and abodes of
all that have been appointed to receive any moneys under colour
of sequestration, fifth and twentieth parts, loans, benevolences,
decimations, drums, colours and trophies and the militia and at
the end of their circuits to certify the same to him. [Ibid.
