Ashby-de-la-Zouche.
13. Fr. Earl of Huntingdon to the Council. Has dispatched 14 horsemen to the Duke of Norfolk. Particulars of parties who have failed to send any. Incloses,
13. i. Names of horsemen with their furniture sent from Ashby-dela-Zouch towards Berwick, furnished by gentlemen of the county of Leicester. 31 Jan.

14. Sir John Bourne to Francis Yaxley. Gives an account of his rural occupations. Invites him to come and enliven them, and promises all manner of rural delights.

15. Sir Thomas Cornwaleys to same. Solicits him to favour the suit of the Vicar of Yaxley. Has given leave to Yaxley's man to take some partridges, though out of season.

Durham.
16. Robert Horn, Dean of Durham, to Sir Wm. Cecill. Prevalence of licentious manners. Good influence of the Duke of Norfolk being in those parts. Robt. Dalton, Nic. Merley, and John Tutting, three Prebendaries of Durham, refuse the oath. Thinks Mr. Ebden, Mr. Carvill, and Mr. Horton proper men to succeed them. Urges a suit of his own.
Feb. 23. 17. Winchester to same. Desires to be discharged of the custody of Carisbrooke Castle, I. of Wight. Charges at Berwick, &c. Incloses,

18. Matthew Earl of Lennox to Cecill. Marvels at his servant Nesbet's crime, knowing his own uprightness. Explains his own dealings with the French Ambassador. Is determined to support his claims in Scotland against Arran's bastardy. Asserts his innocence in all his transactions.
Feb. 19. Account of the yearly charges of the Tower of London in the time of Queen Mary, and as set forth in Feb. 2° Eliz.
20. Another copy of the above, with an additional memorandum.
Feb. 21. Account of the yearly revenue and expenditure of the Hospital of St. Katharine's; and of the yearly charges of the Tower of London, in the time of Q. Mary, and now lately set forth by authority. [See ante, Dec. 1559.]
Feb. (?) 22. Warrant for a grant to Sir Edw. Warner, Lieut. of the Tower, of the Mastership of St. Katharine's, on surrender of Dr. Mallett; together with the Stewardship of the Manor of East Smithfield.
Feb. 23. Declaration by Matthew Parker, Archbishop of Canterbury elect, acknowledging the Queen's supremacy, and taking the oaths of homage and allegiance to Her Majesty, with subscription to the same by the Bishops of the realm.

24. The Queen to the Marq. of Winchester. Empowering him to deliver over the church of the late Augustine Friars to the Bishop of London, for the celebration of divine service by the strangers in London.
Feb. (?) 25. Wm. Barlow, Bishop of Chichester, to Cecill? Complains of Tho. Stapleton and Edw. Goddeshalffe, Papist Prebendaries of Chichester. Intends to deprive the latter of his prebend.
