Prebend

Stillington, Nawton and Wombleton (N.R.): cath. held land in 1086 (Yorks. DB fos. 303, 380v, 381 v). Coulton (N.R.): abp. in 1086 (ibid. fos. 302, 380v).

In 1295 preb. was rector of Stillington, with land, a manor-house and 3 mills in Stillington, land and a manor-house in Nawton, land in Wombleton, land in Langtoft and Coulton (Extents pp. 28-30).

Valuation

Thomas son of Paulinus

First occ. as can. 1142 × 54 (EYC II no. 1201) and [1154] (ibid. IX nos. 151, 153, cal. Mowbray Chs. nos. 236-7; cf. Chart. Fountains II 708 no. 23 = EEA XX no. 20, of 1154 × 57, prob. c. 1154). Occ. several times. Occ. as this preb. 1160 × 65 (EYC I no. 164, cf. IX no. 162). Last occ. 1191 × 94 (YMF I no. 37). Presum. son of M. Paulinus of Leeds, who occ. as can. 1143 × 53 and 1155 × 65 (unident. preb., list 51).

M. Serlo de Sunninges

Occ., not called can., prob. abp.'s clerk 17 Sept. 1216 and 1218 (Reg. Gray pp. 38 n., 277), and again 1227 (CPR 1225-32 p. 141). Occ. as this preb. Michaelmas Term 1225 (Curia Regis Rolls XII 123, 191; cf. XI 46). Prob. to be identified with M. Serlo, can. of Beverley c. 1218 (Reg. Gray p. 133; Beverley Fasti p. 15), who first occ. as can. of York 17 June 1218 (Chart. Pontefract I no. 50), also 8 Apr. 1220 (York Fabric Rolls p. 144) and 3 Apr. 1221 (Reg. Gray p. 326), and became archdcn. of Cleveland by 13 Nov. 1230; last occ. 3 July 1238 (list 10).

M. John de Langeton the elder

First occ. as can. 20 Jan. 1241 (Reg. Gray p. 253). Archdcn. of Cleveland, occ. 1246 × 49 and 21 Sept. 1249 (list 10). Called archdcn. of York after his d., so in office briefly [1262] (list 9). Occ. as this preb. 20 Oct. 1258 (Yorks. Fines 1246-72 p. 108).

M. Thomas of Corbridge

Can. by 11 Sept. 1277, preb. Osbaldwick, which he res. by 25 June 1280 (list 38). Chanc. by 17 Feb. 1280; res. 16 June 1290 (list 4). Abp.'s coll. to this preb. 25 June 1280 (Reg. Wickwane p. 4). Occ. as this preb. 1285 × 94 (Cart. Treas. York no. 19) and 1295 (Extents p. 28). This preb. until became abp. of York, el. 12 Nov. 1299, cons. 28 Feb. 1300, temps. 30 Apr. (list 1).
