Old Pipe Yard

South out of Bristol Street to Lime Wharf (Rocque, 1746-Boyle, 1799).

"The Pipe Yard" (Dodsley, 1761).

The site seems now to be occupied by St. Andrew's Wharf (q.v.).

Old Piscaria

Old Place

Messuage or great Place commonly called the "Old Place" situate at the east head of the parish church of Blessed Mary at Hill, 21 Eliz. (1579) (Lond. I. p.m. III. p.16).

Old Shades Wharf

On the south side of Upper Thames Street, near Fishmongers Hall.

Old South Sea House

On the south side of Broad Street, north of the South Sea House, in Broad Street Ward (Rocque, 1746).

Former name: " Excise Office" (O. and M. 1677).

It formed the back portion of the South Sea House (q.v.).

Roman pavement found here at a depth of 6-i 3 feet.

Old Swan (The)

In Thames Street in 1645 near St. Martin's lane (L. and P. Chas. I. xx. p. 59').

The lady of Gloucester, when doing penance through the city for witchcraft, landed on one occasion at "the Swan in Tempse strete," 1441 (Chron. of Lond. Kingsford, p.149). Gave its name to Old Swan Wharf, etc.

Old Swan Alley

On the south side of Thames Street, west of Ebgate Lane (P.C. 1732). Not named in the maps.

Old Swan Lane

South out of Upper Thames Street, at No.100, to the Thames, between Swan Lane and George Alley (P.O. Directory). In Dowgate Ward.

First mention : O. and M. 1677. Called "Edgate Lane" in Strype's maps, 1720 and 1755.

Named after the "Old Swan Inn" there.

Not to be confused with Swan Lane, formerly Ebbgate Lane. See Old Swan (The).

Old Swan Pier

South of Old Swan Stairs, west of London Bridge, at '00 Upper Thames Street (P.O. Directory). In Bridge Ward Within.

First mention : O.S.1875.

Old Swan Stairs

At the south end of Swan Lane leading down to the river (O.S.) and to Old Swan Pier. In Bridge Ward Within and Dowgate Ward.

First mention : Leake, 1666.
