Pye, Sir Geo. Chudleigh, Sir Geo. Horsey, Knights, Burgesses Devon, Cornewall, Sir Wal. Earle, Mr. Trenchard, Sir Will. Spring: - Wednesday next, Two a Clock, Court of Wards.

Cambridgeshire Election - Punishing under-sheriff.

Mr. Glanvyle .- - Ordered Yesterday, that the Under-Sheriff of Cambridgeshire should be heard this Morning. Two Witnesses testified, that the Sheriff confessed after Eleven Clock, had made no Election. Proved, that the Poll was seasonably demanded, and yet denied. Proved also that he had Dependence on Sir Edw. Peyton.

Edw. Ingrey brought to the Bar, and charged, that, knowing there was no Election, returned Two Knights for that Shire.

- Can prove by * Steward, that in the Castle-yard he pronounced those Two to be chosen. -

For the Poll; did endeavour it all he could. -

Was demanded, whether he had made any Return: Answered, No. - Henry Pecke and John Case his Witnesses. - Hath not, nor never had, any Dependency on Sir Edw. Peyton.

Demanded, whether he had no Motion made to him, to return to the Place again : -

Mr. Becke, and others, desired him to go up to the Castle, to Sir John Cuts; but refused it, because they had used him with such Violence before. -

Sir Tho. Steward came to him, and carried him to Sir Ed. Peyton and Sir Simeon Steward. Sir Tho. Steward promised him, to defend him against Sir Jo. Cuts; and told him, he should have no Wrong.

Withdrawn.

Mr. Brackin: - Was present at the Election. - The Poll demanded, and he would not use it: Went away without any Publication of the Election.

One of the Witnesses brought in, Henry Pecke. - Was at the Election. Sheriff was pressed to go to the Poll. The Sheriff, between Ten or Eleven Clock, pronounced Sir Edw. Peyton and Sir Simeon Steward Knights of the Shire.

Francis Haslop, another Witness, affirmed that some of Sir John Cuts' Company pulled the Sheriff's Cloak off his Back, and pulled him very violently, when he was going to the Poll. This between Nine and Ten Clock. - One, that dwells under Sir Jo. Cuts, would have come up to testify as much, but that he is afraid of Sir Jo. Cuts. - Hath no Dependence upon any Man.

Resolved, upon Question, That this Under Sheriff shall be committed to the Serjeant's Custody, till Thursday next.

Resolved, also, upon Question, That, making his Submission then at the Bar, and acknowleging his Offence, he shall be discharged from any further Punishment in this Place.

Resolved also, upon a third Question, That this Under Sheriff shall make a further Submission openly at the next Quarter Session, to be holden in the Country, and acknowlege his Fault.

Edw. Ingrey brought to the Bar, and kneeling on his Knees, Mr. Speaker denounced upon him the Judgment of the House.
