PRAYERS.

Carewe respited.

THE humble Petition of the unhappy and distressed Jane Carewe, Wife of Sir Alexander Carewe Baronet, desiring a Reprieve of the Execution of the Sentence of Death adjudged upon her Husband, was this Day read: And

It is Ordered, That the Execution of the Sentence given upon Sir Alexander Carew be respited, until the House be further informed of the State and Condition of the said Sir Alexander Carew; the House being informed, by the Petition of his Wife, that he is distracted: And the Members of this House that are Commissioners for Martial Affairs, are, on Monday next, to report unto this House the State he is now in: And they are to take with them the Lieutenant of the Tower, for the better informing themselves of his Condition.

Military Affairs.

A Letter from the Governor of Farneham Castle, of Novembris 22, relating, That a Body of the Enemy's Horse and Dragoons, to the Number of Seven thousand, were advanced as far as Odium, was this Day read.

Money for Scotland.

An Ordinance for the Raising of Sixty-six thousand Six hundred and Sixty-six Pounds Thirteen Shillings and Four-pence, by way of Loan, for the better enabling our Brethren of Scotland, to assist us in this Cause of Religion and Liberty, was this Day read the First time; and, upon the Question, passed; and ordered to be sent to the Lords for their Concurrence.

Officers Petition.

Ordered, That the Committee of Knights and Burgesses of the Counties of Sussex, Surry, and Hants, or any Four of them, shall have Power to meet upon the Petition of Colonel Edw. Apsleye's Officers.

Payments to Frost.

Ordered, That the Lord Say do forthwith pay the Five hundred Pounds, Part of the Thousand Pounds formerly assigned for Abingdon, which he Yesterday received at Goldsmiths Hall, to Mr. Frost; to be disposed of by the Committee of both Kingdoms: And that the Committee at Goldsmiths Hall do forthwith pay the Five hundred Pounds, Residue of the said Thousand Pounds, unto Mr. Frost, likewise to be disposed of by the Committee of both Kingdoms.

Mr. Bainton is appointed to acquaint my Lord Say with this Order.

Examination of James.

Ordered, That it be referred to the Committee of the Tower, to examine and consider of the Case of one James, committed to the Tower for a Priest; and one that endeavoured the Release and Escape of Macguire and Mac Mahon, Irish Rebels, out of the Tower: And, if they shall find him to be committed upon Misinformation, that they shall have Power to set him at Liberty.

Advance from Excise.

Ordered, That, on Monday next, Mr. Holland do bring in an Ordinance for reimbursing and satisfying unto the Commissioners of Excise, Five hundred Pounds advanced by them for the Garison of Windesore: And he is to desire the Commissioners of Excise to advance the said Five hundred Pounds in the mean time.

Maintaining the Guards.

Mr. Whittacre reports the Amendments to the Ordinance for raising of Monies for the Keeping and Maintaining of the Guards: The which were twice read, and assented unto; and the Ordinance, upon the Question, passed; and ordered to be sent unto the Lords for their Concurrence.

Mr. Whittacre is appointed to carry it up.

Army Pay.

Upon Mr. Bainton's Report of my Lord Saye's Answer;

Ordered, That the Remainder of a Fortnight's Pay, assigned upon Haberdashers Hall, to Colonel John Fienis his Regiment (provided it exceed not Five hundred Pounds), be forthwith paid by the said Committee to Mr. Frost; to be disposed of by the Committee of both Kingdoms, in lieu of Five hundred Pounds, Part of a Thousand Pounds assigned to be paid out of Goldsmiths Hall to Mr. Frost, to be disposed by the said Committee, and taken thence by the Lord Say, and sent towards the Pay of Colonel John Fienis his Regiment.

Military Affairs.

Ordered, That it be referred to the Committee of both Kingdoms, forthwith to put the Armies into such a Posture as may keep the Line as large as may be; and may oppose the Advance of the King's Forces, and prevent the Enlarging of his Quarters: And likewise, upon the Consideration of the present State and Condition of the Armies, as now disposed and commanded, to consider of a Frame or Model of the whole Militia, and present it to the House, as may put the Forces into such a Posture, as may be most advantageous for the Service of the Publick. This to be done, notwithstanding any former Ordinance of Parliament.

Letters, &c. referred.

Ordered, That the Letters, of the Twelfth of November, from the Commissioners at Newcastle to Mr. Speaker, and the Papers therewith sent, be referred to the Consideration of the Northern Committee, where Sir Thomas Widdrington has the Chair: Who are to give a speedy Account thereof to the House.

Military Affairs.

Ordered, and the House doth enjoin, That Sir Wm. Waller, and Lieutenant General Cromwell, do, on Monday Morning next, declare unto the House their whole Knowledge and Informations of the particular Proceedings of the Armies, since their Conjunction.

Advance from Excise.

Whereas John Towse Esquire, Alderman of the City of London, and the rest of the Commissioners of Excise and New Impost, have advanced and lent the Sum of Two thousand Pounds for and towards Payment of some Forces under the Command of Sir Wm. Waller: Be it Ordained, by the Lords and Commons, in Parliament assembled, That the said Commissioners of Excise shall and may satisfy and reimburse themselves the said Two thousand Pounds, together with Interest for the same, after the Rate of Eight Pounds per Cent. for so long time as the same, or any Part thereof, shall be forborne, out of such Intervals of Time wherein other Payments shall not happen to fall due; or, for want of such Intervals, then as the same shall follow in Course: And shall not, by any other Order or Ordinance of one or both Houses of Parliament, be debarred or secluded from reimbursing themselves accordingly: And the Receipt of Michaell Herring Merchant, for the said Two thousand Pounds shall be a sufficient Discharge to the said Commissioners of Excise in this Behalf: And that the same shall be disposed of, as the Committee of the West shall direct.
