PRAYERS.

Army.

A LETTER, from Plymouth, of August 28, 1644. from Commissary Martin Pindar, one of the Commissioners of my Lord General's Army, representing the State and Condition of my Lord General's Army, was this Day read.

Newport Election.

Ordered, That the Committee for Elections do meet To-morrow, in the Afternoon, to consider of the Election and Return of the Members for Newport in the County of Devon.

Sir Wm. Acton, &c.

The humble Petition of Sir Wm. Acton Knight and Baronet was this Day read; and ordered to be referred to the Committee of the Navy; to hear, examine, and state, the whole Matter of Fact: And that the Committee of Examinations do proceed to the Seizing and Securing of his Estate in the mean time: And that the Committee do meet upon it this Afternoon; and report on Monday next.

It is likewise referred to this Committee, to hear, examine, and state, the Matter of Fact, as it relates to Sir Paul Pindar, and others, named in the Order concerning Mr. Rolle, if they shall desire it.

Oxfordshi Committe.

Resolved, &c. That Sir James Harrington Knight, Jo. Cartwright Esquire, Hen. Goodwyn Gentleman, Barthol. Hall Esquire, Jo. Nixon Gentleman, Robert Vivers Esquire, Wm. Allen Gentleman, Hen. Wilmore Esquire, be added to the Committees for Oxfordshire.

The Lords Concurrence to be desired herein.

Publick Stores.

Ordered, That in regard of the great Necessity of making Provisions of Arms and Ammunition for the publick Stores, That the Commissioners of Excise be required and enjoined to comply punctually with the Ordinance for issuing of Two thousand Pounds per Month to the Lieutenant of the Ordnance, for making of Provisions of Arms and Ammunition for the publick Stores; and that they do abate the said monthly Sum of Two thousand Pounds out of other Assignments, rather than this so necessary Service should fail.

Sir Math. Lister, &c.

Mr. Corbett reports, from the Committee of Examinations, the Case concerning a Letter from Sir Math. Lister, sent to Doctor Sanders at Oxon, to furnish the Lady Brooke, Sir Math. Lister's Wife's Daughter, with One hundred Pounds.

Ordered, That after the Report from the Committee of both Kingdoms is done, that the House do resume the Business concerning Sir Math. Lister.

Military Affairs.

Sir Hen. Vane junior reports from the Committee of both Kingdoms, a Letter from Sir W. Bruerton, of the Twenty-seventh of August; informing the Committee of both Kingdoms, of a Defeat given the King's Forces, commanded by Sir Marmaduke Langdale, where many Commanders of the King's Side were slain, Colonel Conyers, and others; and a List of the Commanders taken.

Another from Sir W. Bruerton, of the Twenty-ninth, was read; informing of Prince Rupert's Advance to join with the King.

Another Letter, of the Twenty-seventh of August, from my Lord General at Listithiell, was read; informing the House of the hard Duty he is put unto; and also of a Plot to blow up Sixty Barrels of Powder: The Engine and Matches were taken amongst the Barrels.

Another from Colonel Midleton, of the Twenty-fifth, was read; informing his Resolution to march towards the Relief of my Lord General.

Also another, of the Twenty-eighth of August, from Colonel Midleton, then at Hunington, to the same Purpose.

Also a Letter from Sir Wm. Waller, of the First of September, of his Willingness to march, but wants Horse to mount his Musqueteers.

Also another Letter, of the same Date, from Sir Wm. Waller, to Mr. Speaker, desiring the Five thousand Pounds formerly promised him.

Sir H. Vane further reports the Letter prepared by them to be sent to Colonel Midleton: Which was read: And also informed, that the Committee of both Kingdoms have sent express Orders to the Earl of Manchester, to send Forces, of Horse and Foot, Southwards, in order to the Design of the West.

He further reported, the Copy of a Letter to be sent from the Committee of both Kingdoms, to Lieutenant General Middleton, of September 2, 1644: The which was read, &c.

Whereas the House is thoroughly informed of the Necessity of sending a present Assistance to my Lord General; do Order, That a Committee of both Kingdoms do write unto Lieutenant General Middleton; and direct him, in regard the Safety of the Kingdom is so much concerned in his speedy March, that he will, with all Diligence, advance nearer to the King's Army, for the Streightening of his Quarters, and Diverting of his Forces.

Resolved, &c. That Sir Wm. Waller shall be directed, upon the coming of the Kentish Forces unto him; forthwith to march Westward: And it is referred to the Committee of both Kingdoms to write unto him to this Purpose.

Ordered, That the Committee of both Kingdoms do write unto the Kentish Forces now upon their March, to speed their Advance to Sir Wm. Waller.

Ordered, That the Gentlemen of the County of Sussex that are Members of this House, do presently write a Letter to the Committees in Sussex, forthwith to advance so much Monies to Colonel Stapeley, as may enable the Soldiers of the Garison of Chichester to march Westward: And they are to signify unto that Committee, that this House does expect a particular account of this Business.

Colonel Stapeley and Mr. Downes are appointed to go down into the Country, to advance this Service, with their best Endeavours.

Ordered, That the Committee of both Kingdoms do give Order that so many of the Forces as can possibly be spared of the Garison of Chichester, may forthwith, with all Diligence, march to Sir Wm. Waller's Rendezvous.

Ordered, That the Committee of Sussex do take care of providing Coats, &c. for the Cloathing of those Soldiers of the Garison of Chichester, that are appointed to march Westward to Sir Wm. Waller: And that Colonel Stapeley and Mr. Downes do take care of this Business; and provide that this Business may no way retard the March of those Men.

Ordered, That the Committee of both Kingdoms do signify unto Sir Wm. Waller, that the House will take the best Care they can for the speedy bringing in of the last Five thousand Pounds for him; and that it shall be seat after him with all speed.

Ireland.

Ordered, That the House do sit To-morrow, and meet at Eight of Clock, to take into Consideration the Ordinance concerning Ireland.

Army Affairs.

Ordered, That Mr. Hollis do give Thanks from this House to the Earl of Pembroke, for the Good Service he hath done in raising of Men in the Isle of Wight; and to desire him to write to the Committee there, to send away the Soldiers by Sea to Lymington, Christechurch, or Weymouth, to meet Sir Wm. Waller at such Rendezvous as the Committee of both Kingdoms shall direct.

Isle of Wight.

Ordered, That Colonel Jephson and Mr. Nicoll do take care to see the Swords and Bandaliers sent down to the Isle of Wight with all Speed.
