Miscellanies.

The Secretary laid before the Board an account of the petty expences and incidental charges of this office from the 5th of January to the 5th of April, 1760, amounting to four hundred and twenty six pounds, sixteen shillings and six pence; and a letter to the Lords of the Treasury, desiring payment of the same, and of the salaries due to the Secretary and under officers in the service of this Board for the same time, was signed.

Pennsylvania.

fo. 106.

Ordered, that the consideration of the laws of Pennsylvania, referred to their lordships by the orders of the Lords of the Committee of Council of the 20th of February and 13th of March, 1760, and the hearing thereon, appointed for to-morrow, be postponed until Thursday, the 1st of May next, and that the Secretary do give notice thereof to the parties concerned.

Georgia.

Read a letter from Henry Ellis, Esquire, Governor of Georgia, to the Board, dated February 15th, 1760, informing their lordships of the measures he has taken in consequence of the treaty, lately concluded between Governor Lyttelton and the Cherokees, having been broke by the said Indians.

fo. 107.

The Secretary laid before the Board a Memorial prepared by the agent for Georgia to be presented to the Lords Commissioners of the Treasury, setting forth the expediency of a further allowance for presents to the Creek Indians; and the said memorial having been approved, it was ordered, that the agent should present it to the Lords Commissioners of the Treasury, together with an extract of so much of the above mentioned letter from Governor Ellis, as states the urgent necessity of a further allowance of presents for the Creek Indians, in the present situation of Indian affairs.

South Carolina.

Read a letter from William Henry Lyttelton, Esquire, to the Board, dated Charles Town, March 8th, 1760, respecting a disturbance arisen from the treachery of the Indians at Fort Prince George; and inclosing
Extract of a letter from Ensign Alexander Miln from Fort Prince George, dated 24th February, 1760, to his Excellency, Governor Lyttelton.

Ordered, that copies be made of the said letter and paper, and also a copy of the letter from the Governor of Georgia, to be transmitted to Mr. Secretary Pitt; and that the draught of a letter to him therewith be prepared.

Georgia.

Their lordships took into consideration an Act passed in the colony of Georgia in January, 1759, intituled,

An Act to impower the Commissioners of the General Loan to stamp, imprint, sign and pay into the hands of his Majesty's Treasurer the further sum of seven hundred, ninety nine pounds, eight shillings and eleven pence in sterling bills of credit, &c.
and, after some time spent therein, agreed, that the said Act should lie by for further consideration at another opportunity.

South Carolina.

Georgia.

The draught of a letter to Mr. Secretary Pitt, inclosing copies of letters received from the Governors of South Carolina and Georgia, respecting the hostilities of the Cherokee Indians, having been prepared pursuant to order, was agreed to, and ordered to be transcribed.

North Carolina.

Read a letter from Arthur Dobbs, Esquire, Governor of North Carolina, to the Board, dated February 28th, 1760, stating the difficulties he is under with respect to the towns and counties that are to send representatives to the next General Assembly.

Ordered, that the draught of a letter [vide folio 156] in answer thereto be prepared.

Massachusetts.

Read a letter from Governor Pownall, dated February 22nd, 1760, informing the Board of the receipt of their letters of 13th and 14th November last, of a general thanksgiving having been observed by the province; of the measures taken for carrying on the war; and expressing his grateful sense of their lordships' nomination of him to the government of South Carolina; and inclosing
Copy of the resolves of the legislature of the Massachusets Bay, relative to the making provision for the forces of the province in garrison at Louisbourg and Nova Scotia, and raising others for the service of the ensuing year.

New Jersey.

Read a letter from Thomas Boone, Esquire, Governor of New Jersey, dated Charles Town, February 14th, 1760, expressing his acknowledgment of the honour conferred on him by his appointment to be Governor of that province; and his intention of repairing thither with all possible diligence.

South Carolina.

Georgia.

The draught of a letter to Mr. Secretary Pitt, with copies of letters received from the Governors of South Carolina and Georgia respecting the hostilities of the Cherokee Indians, having been transcribed pursuant to order, was signed.

Jamaica.

Read a letter from Florentius Vassall, Esquire, to the Secretary, inclosing a memorial to their lordships, relative to an Act passed in Jamaica in November, 1757, intituled,
An Act to enable Martin Williams, Esquire, to take up a sufficient quantity of water, to be conveyed from a channel or stream of water in the parish of St. James, &c.

Ordered, that the said Act, together with the above mentioned letter and memorial, be referred to Sir Matthew Lamb for his opinion thereupon in point of law.

fo. 114.

Read a letter from Henry Moore, Esquire, Lieutenant Governor of Jamaica, to the Board, dated February 16th, 1760, informing their lordships of his delaying to send the minutes of the Council and Assembly, till Mr. Cotes returns with his fleet to England.

Leeward Islands.

Read a letter from George Thomas, Esquire, Governor of the Leeward Islands, dated December 29th, 1759, acquainting the Board with the death of Mr. Ottley, one of the council of Nevis, and recommending Mr. Thomas Cottle to succeed him.

Jamaica.

Their lordships took into consideration the two following private Acts passed in the island of Jamaica in 1752 and 1759, together with Sir Matthew Lamb's reports thereupon, viz.
An Act to enable Charles Price, Esquire, Speaker of the present Assembly, to take up a sufficient quantity of water to be conveyed from a brook called Murmuring Brook, situate at Luidas, &c.

An Act for the sale of certain lands in Liguania in the parish of Saint Andrew, belonging to Henry Archbould, a minor, &c.
and the Secretary having acquainted the Board, that the agent for the parties interested in the said Acts had desired him to move their lordships to lay them before his Majesty for his royal confirmation, their lordships ordered the draught of a representation to his Majesty to be prepared, proposing the confirmation of the first mentioned Act; and agreed, that the other should lye by for further consideration, when the term of six months from the time of its being received shall have been expired.

Africa.

The Secretary laid before the Board the following papers received from the Committee of the Company of Merchants trading to Africa, viz.
Copies of letters to and from the Committee of the Company of Merchants trading to Africa, and their officers at Cape Coast Castle and James Fort, Gambia, in 1759 and 1760. No. 1 and 2.

Nova Scotia.

Read a letter from Richard Cumberland, Esquire, agent for the settlement of Nova Scotia, to Mr. Pownall, dated March 28th, 1760, acquainting him with the sums he has discovered to have been paid to the late Captain Gorham for his subsistence and arrears between 25th August, 1748, and 15th December, 1751.

fo. 117.

Upon consideration of the above mentioned letter, and the memorial in behalf of the executors of Captain Gorham, mentioned in the minutes of the 21st March last, their lordships agreed, that such-sums as should appear to be due on account of pay, subsistence and arrears of the said Captain Gorham, or on account of the Company of Rangers under his command, subsequent to the establishment of Nova Scotia, should be provided for by a special article, to be inserted in any estimate that should be laid before Parliament for the support of the settlement of Nova Scotia for the year 1761.
